Geriminating is super easy. I used the paper towel method. All you do is get some seeds and put them in a wet paper towel for a few days. They say you should keep the paper towel warm but I just left it out and was fine. My first attempt I did at germinating was with four seeds and after a week nothing happened. When I got some more new weed i try'd again with 1 seed and it grew a tap root in 3 days.
Once it grows a white tap root (just a white root that grows out the bottom of the seed) place it in a pot and your good to go ;)
Thanks man
to avoid injury to the taproot (which often kills the baby) place in soil as soon as they pop, doesn't matter how much, or if you can see the taproot at all. just look for a crack in the seam of the bean

I just stick it in dirt and let it go. It's worked for millions of years. Why fix what ain't broke?
Of course, you hydro growers gotta makle things difficult. :D
germinating in towels takes the geuss work out of it. when you plant popped seeds, they will grow. you don't have to stare at a pot for two weeks waiting for the plant that never comes.

I agree with this guy...waiting is waiting. If you are going to do soil growing...you should go to the garden store and get some peat pellets or a jiffy starter kit. I tell you...I have never had a seed fail in peat pellets.Quote:

When is a good time to introduce light? i have three seeds that have just cracked the surface, one is about a centimeter out but the seed shell is still attached. I read somewhere that you shouldn't introduce light until there are two fan leaves? any help would be greatly appreciated!
Forgot another question i had, but when it is time to put them under the light, how close should they be positioned?
I start a CFL shining on where I expect it to pop out 2 days after planting the seed. When it comes up, it's good to have a cool light source ready for the plant to orient to.Quote:

:D Been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt. I now pop 3 seeds in each spot I want a plant, and cull. I, personally, have never seen a seed take longer than 8 days from dirt, usually 5; although I imagine it's quite possible to go 12 or 14.Quote:

as soon as i see a seedling popping out of the soil, i put a cfl as close as possible with out burning the seedling
okay thanks guys ill start a new thrend later about my grow!!! if yall wana cheak it out!
:bonghit:
So im not tring to bea anoying 1st time grower but i just broke my cfls ands i only have a soft white light bulb.would that work for a day or two untill i buy anothher cfl/????/
thanks again!
it should, but a plant that isint well taken care of when its a seedling/baby, is more prone to having problems when older
what i do is i take acouple seeds and let them soak in a glass of water for 24 hours then after 24 hours of soaking in the water just lightely tap the seeds that are floating on the watter witchever ones fall to the bottom are ready to germinate and are okay if they stay afloat throw them away there no good, By soaking them in the water it signals the seed to begin growth. After this step i take a bowl and pour hot boiled water onto it to sterolize it and then i pour more water onto a folded paper towl to fit the bottom of the bowl you then take your seed that sunk to the bottom of the glass and put them ontop of the paper towl and then wrap the top of the bowl with plastic wrap so this way you can watch it germinate. Then you just keep in a warm dark place till the seeds begin to pop out there white stems :D it worked for me sorry if this is hard to follow.
haha no thanks that actually helped me a little bit .
when a sprout 1st pokes its head out...you should put it under lights...the sooner you add light the less the seedling will stretch.Quote:

My first question is how will i know when its time to adjust the distance from the light? my second question is How often and how much should i water them? currently i use a aquafina bottle with three little pin holes to water and am just giving them a lot of water in the morning and few sprays of water throughout the day and then i give them a lot of water just b/4 bed. thanks
sounds like your watering them a little too much, i would stick to watering once every 2-3days, and you will know to move the light up when the plant gets closer to burning it self on it
ya dude dont water them so much water them when needed like when the soil is dry.
Heres some pics. i have about till mid to late may of this year before im moving to a new location. you guys think i will have enough time to take them to full maturity and harvest them? thanks
depends on how long you veg, but yes by late may you can have a harvest if nothing gets in the way
its possible what kind of lights do you have?
6 x 26 watt soft white spiral bulbs. i think its the equivalent to 600 watts maybe, and keeping them bout an inch from bulbs
1st) you have 2 leaves. now you need 4 more sets and you will have a seedling ready for veg.Quote:

2nd) lamp height is determined by how close you can get it without burning plants canopy...so you learn by trial and error. goodluck
ya gasper im not the smartest when it comes to growing just started reading myself you should start a grow log.
maybe i will start a log, is there anything i can give them to help them along? thanks
you can get a harvest by may...Just keep them from stress and don't overfert them, so you get females...let them come to you.
thanks everyone for the info! ill try and keep everyone up to date on the progress.
Hi guys and girls,
I am going to try to germinate some old seeds (like 5 years) I've been told they won't grow but I'm gonna try anyway. what the hell, right. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of putting the seeds in the fridge or freezer first to stimulate them. I don't know where I heard this but I'm pretty sure I didn't make it up. lol I would love to hear your thoughts. thanks
Vapordaddy, how did you store the seeds.....if the seeds were not in the freezer or fridge to begin with theres no need to put them in there to "jump start" them
yeah I hear that but I stored them in the little air tight tubes they came in and in a dark box. No fridge or freezer. I know I should have but to late now.
So have you heard of this idea of "jump starting" them?
no i have never heard of that, it may be true but from what i have read your best bet is just to germ them the way you normally would....except these will probably take a longer time to sprout so patience is key. good luck
sounds like you should have enough time. about 2 mos in veg and the same for flowering. give or take a few days.
