so i read in a newspaper today that simon cowell, one of the judges on american idol said he would choose kelly clarkson ten times over before he would chose bob dylan. BOB DYLAN! now i understand he's not to everyones tastes, but c'mon, were comparing a poetic genius to a hot, floozy. even those who dont like dylan must agree that he is in fact better than clarkson. i mean, when did music become about the looks and sex appeal, i thought music was to create beautiful music for the peoples to enjoy, not just to whack off to. just my two

Simon may prefer the sound of her voice to a more rustic one than Dylans, she IS a pretty good singer, but her songs are typical plastic pop broken-heart "music"

Bob IS music, it's evident in his complex lyrics- he doesn't care about how his voice sounds, to him the music is what it's all about. And unfortunately, we've lost it in this age... I hardly know any modern bands because I refuse to listen to overprocessed garbage. There are a few bands I do like and not the "Oh so underground that they're cooler than you" but for the most part, it's all about the 60s, 70s, and early 80s for me. It's hard to imagine another Golden Age of music coming up... There aren't any guitar solos to speak of.

My dad gave me his taste in music; he'd always put on Allman Bros, Eagles, Beach Boys, Bob, Floyd, Bob Marley, and some of the other greats while making his spaghetti dinner.

That train sequence at the end of "Caroline, No" still gives me the chills (he used to turn the stereo up FULL BLAST at that part)...

here i thought Limp Bizkit released another album or Kirk Hammett died....

His criticism does well for POP music, and POP music only. He gives good pointers on the show and dishes out judgement fairly, but other than industry pop music, I doubt he knows shit about music.

his job is to pick music that is (or will be) popular, not good.

The guy "Simon" has a function and that is to piss people off. Evidently he has succeeded in pissing you off. That is his job and what they pay him the big bucks for, to be a controversial SOB foriegner on an American TV show.
So use your head and do not pay any attention to what you hear coming out of the mouths of a Hollywood lames. They are all actors telling a story to entertain you at any cost, they make me sick.

american idol is looking for singers, not songwriters. They have plenty of those. I hate to offend anyone out there, but....Bob Dylan can't sing for shit. I know I know you prolly hate me now or something, but I'm sorry it's true. The man sounds like fingers on chalkboard compared to the voice of mrs clarkson. Now I understnad and recognize his musial genious. Wrote some good songs. But Idol is only looking for pretty people with the best voice. They don't care if you can wright a good song. In fact, it's prolyl easier on them if you don't try and wright your own songs.

Pop culture is becoming a pain in the ass nowadays that its over the top, its in. I fucking hate it, it really screws over people's heads. Who knows if people will ever get over such plastic and idiotic fancies and if they will ever recover in their lifetime due to that heavy brainwashing. Oh well, they rot in their ownselves.

That is an awful statement made by him. I know he has the reputation of being an asshole but he usually seems to be quite in tune with his musical side and knows who's good and who isn't. I'm quite shocked he would make such a comment. Bob Dylan over Kelly Clarkson any day.
