The 'What is wrong with Lowryder' thread =p

To begin, a big disclaimer:

I have not ever, and do not currently, grow Lowryder or any of its relatives.

That being said, I want to give my several cents' worth of opinion about autoflowering strains in general.

Why would you want an autoflowering strain?
Well, that is the easy one.
There are a couple of really specific situations in which you would really benefit from growing one.
1) You grow outdoors above the Arctic Circle (or below the Antarctic circle, with the penguins, lol!). The summer days are extemely long, but by the time you wait for the daylight period to shorten, frost is not too far away... so you would benefit from a strain that you can get to start flowering right around the summer solstice and finish quickly.
2) You are ridiculously limited in space yet still want to do a perpetual-harvest grow, and you only have 1 room to do it in. In this case, it is also an appropriate choice. Perpetual harvests IMHO are the most satisfying grow setup!
3) You're a greenhouse grower in a temperate area, you don't have a darkening system, and you want to do 2 harvests per summer
4) You live in low latitudes and just want to keep pulling down crops all year regardless of light cycle

That's pretty much the list...

The drawbacks are the strains reputation for boring flavor and puniness.

And the seeds are outrageously expensive for the end result.

Another major drawback to remember is that you cannot as far as I have ever heard, cannot clone the beast. It sprouts, it flowers, it dies... the same set-in-stone life cycle that makes it flower earlier prevents you being able to clone it in veg and keep a mother vegging indefinitely.

Yeah, I see your side. But I WILL be cultivating outdoors, and no I do not the time or the money to put into a good indoor system, let alone the fact that I don't live alone. I talked to a bunch of other people on different sites including corresponding emails to who I bought it from who all agreed that it was good for my situation.

Now I could take your advice over everyone elses even though you are less than nice. or I could go with people who actually try to give people good advice based on thier particular situation...

I'm not trying to start a drug cartel here, I'm more trying to see if I can even do it.

Geeze....I'd be careful StinkyAttic is well received and well loved on this site. Be kind, be tolerant and most of all show respect to everyone. I mean, I could lash out with crudities (word?) all day long but where would that get me? Concentrate on growing. I'm sure Stinky's advice on Lowryder wasn't meant to be an insult and I found it very informative because I thought I might give it a try one day and she saved me the trouble of having to do the research myself...don't you know that peoples' time is valueable? Oh yeah, and if you find women speaking to you as though you were a child and they were your mother it can mean only one thing....you need to grow up! So can the toe stomping please end? Peace!

My lowryder advice was actually not even directed at nOOb, it was intended for HiPro, who SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR IT!!! Durrrr.....touchy, are we?

The Lowryder debate is a very interesting one; it's a strain with rel pros and cons to it, and I just wanted to sort of lay them all on the table... Geez... do you think I do this for my health?

Don't worry about it. I guess I'm a little sensitive to the "sneaking around and hiding the fact that you smoke" thingy because I believe that if more people come out of the weed closet we'd be closer to legalization. It's a touchy subject for me. I hope you have a wonderful experience on this site, it sure has helped me. I do not think there has been one person here that has not put there foot in their mouth at least once of twice.

Good luck with the lowrider. Eventually you will want a strain that you can do more with. But everyone starts somewhere.

My foot's surgically attached to my mouth.

My problem with lowryder is that it's a weak, low harvest. True, you don't have to spend as much time or energy in its cultivation, but you're also not left with the best plant possible. I'm not talking about starting a drug cartel, I just mean stay away from shitty plants.

I don't really understand the fuss with lowryder. I have no plans to grow it but I don't really care if anyone else does. I'm sure it's probably good for the certain situations listed above but you never know, perhaps lowrider 3 or 4 will improve? We'll see. Fair play to anyone who does grow it and get a buzz! :jointsmile:

it has the advantage of growin allot faster for more harvests...

umm, now i have to say something; the issue was supposedly resolved and dropped yesterday... why are you still holding on to that? stinky attic speaks her mind, and doesn't hold back. that is her, i wouldn't want her to change a thing. you got flamed more for your responses than anything else...

let it go... i'm sure we can all be friends. unless you mess with stinky, then (at least for me) it becomes personal...

with that being said, i wish you luck, but i still think you should TALK to your gf, let her know your wants and wishes. add some possitive facts and info, and she may become your new smoking buddy. i was totally against drugs and alcohol (still won't have anything to do with drunks) until my cousin talked me into trying it for my medical probs.

its not somthing id ever consider growing, i can see why it appeals to some,
when i first read about it i thought hey thats cool
but the more i think of it, the more i think, why?
its just backwards genetic engineering as far as i can see.

why when theres plenty of cheapo strains available.

i think its because it has a trendy name, lowryder, sounds like some sort of custom mustang or somthing, and the "i" is replaced with a "y" very "street", lol

on the subjectof people picking on each other, i think everyone should just get off thier soap boxes, its all to easey for someone to come across the wrong way on a text based forum, because theres no body language or tone of voice to properly evaluate someones real meaning.

some of the forums i frequent for other interests, ive seen turn into real snipe contests...its just a waste of energy,

were all here to learn, so take a step back and if you see somthing that you dont like, simply ignore it.

like graph said, we all say stuff that can come across the wrong way somtimes, and i belive no offence is intended 90% of the time.

one point regarding the growing of Lowryder, or any other small, low-producing, mediocre-potency pot: the penalty, if caught, remains the same ... risking penalties of law, I would think it is common sense to grow top-notch quality and yields, rather than sit in a jail cell for cultivating an ounce of so-so product ... that would truly make it 'hard-time' for me, I'd rather be caught with a pound of the world's best weed ...

Than why waste your time making this post ? But than again I guess I should have just ignored this post in the first place huh.....lol The problem is people with such a small closed mind to change like you. You only see the small picture not everyone everywhere has the same growing options as you do. When you can take the AF trait move it to a stronger more potent strain and keep it small and stealth it opens doors for others. Than there are those in areas that can only grow outdoors in a shorter time frame and it opens doors for them to grow.

..mainly because we've just set up out first grow room, and my fella being the impatient bugger that he is, can't wait for the. skunk no1, and hash plants, that we have growing to harvest so we wanted something quickish to grow whilst we waiting. We bought a pack of 10 seeds for £45, pricey but we thought worth it if he gets a some smoke out of it in a few weeks. Only 4 of the seeds actually germinated, just found one of those to be male, but he smells the strongest which totally confuses me! Anyway we're getting a part refund on the packet of seeds from the shop we bought, a small consilation, but i was expecting all seeds to germinate and have 10 lowryders growin in our room. I'd buy them again but not from that shop, as we also bought 10 nothern lights which did not germinate at all!, i think he storing his seeds wrong, we've had our other seeds germinate so i don't think i'm the one at afault, i could be wrong but even tho i'm new to all this i think it's the seeds.

I have grown Lowryder and Lowryder 2

They are great strains and very useful to certain growers as stated.

The original Lowryder was OK I grew it organically and to be honest I grew for seeds. The seeds might be expensive but so what? I now have 240 seeds for 10 planted... I just needed to pollenate one of the girls - and not by much either ;)

The Lowryder 2 (Lowryder x Santa Maria) was a different story, fantastic plant and a really nice smoke. The Lowryder 2 stinks though compared to Lowryder 1 - a really spicy smell which made my greenhouse stink.

Not all Lowryders are made equal. The future for this strain is great IMHO.

I'm glad to hear that some people on here have had some success with lowryder... Hope fully my first grow will be a decent one. If I have a plant that produses even an ounce, I'll be happy...

Hi, we bought our seeds from a shop on the Wirral, which is in the UK as i live near the shop, we didnt wanna risk buying online. but what we did do is call the company who supplied the norhtern light seeds, who actually sent us two packets of seeds as compensation, which are now germinating. the lowryders we're still trying to sort something out with the shop. We spent £80/£160 on 30 seeds for only 14 to sprout, a lot of money wasted

My Lowryders were in the original Joint Doctor packaging - Paid £30 for 10.

All ten germinated just fine.

Lowryder 2 was the same, 100% germ rate.

Those seeds must have had problems.

Plus the seedbank I used added 200 (old stock) Durban Poison seeds - :p to my order as the Lowryder2 was really new and they didn't know how it would go.

Those are the lowryders that seed company is sending as replacement, joint doctor , so hoping they damned sight better than the ones that didnt germinate

May i ask Delta, what was your yield on the lowryder#2 u harvested?

To be honest I grew females mostly for seed so I wasn't going for yield. I would say probably 14+g (dry) per plant but with 250+ seeds that wasn't a problem. Plus this was a greenhouse grow - less than ideal in th UK ;)

wow 250 seeds, think of all that money yo'll be saving :D We got 3 fems and one male (lowryder#2) , male is in another room under alight, we can't bring ourselves to cut him down, so if these new packet all sprout might be good fun to get one 'knocked up' so to speak lol

One honest question I have is if you're doing things indoors why bother with lowryders when you can just go 12/12 from the begining with any seeds or clones? From what I've read you get similar results.
