Saddam could hang in hours -Iraqi officials

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein may be hanged within hours, senior Iraqi officials and the ousted president's defence team said on Friday.

One senior Iraqi source told Reuters key legal issues had been resolved and he could go to the gallows shortly. Another official said Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki was meeting key figures, including the Justice Minister, to agree the details.

A leading parliamentarian from the dominant Shi'ite majority behind Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Maliki was waiting only for a ruling from clerics on whether Saturday's start of the Eid al-Adha holiday, coinciding with the haj pilgrimage to Mecca, meant the execution should be postponed for a week

two things, one no one noticed 'may be hanged' when it should be hung, and 2nd, how come if it's someone people generally care about this would be an antrocity, but because it's saddam hussein, it's ok to joke about him dying? just curious...

I think the "may be" thing is relevent to the time table whether or not it'll be Saturday or possibly the week after.

As far as the "joke".....well, his life has been that of bad karma all the way. Can you name any accomplishment that he made for the good of something other than himself and his family? Another reason I don't feel bad about joking about it is because he sure didn't mind the results of 9-11.......I'll feel the same sympathy for him. Good point though........I'll have to do a lil' "soul searching" on this one.

Good plan. Hope you smoked one to the future of the Iraqi people. All the cable media outlets are now reporting that the Middle Easten stations are saying he's been executed within the last half hour. The American outlets can't seem to get this confirmed enough to claim it as fact, however. . . .

seems as if they did go though with it today.

Now it must be confirmed. ABC news is now reporting it. It's 9:25 p.m. here as they're doing the special report. But CNN and MSNBC and Fox were carrying the story and attributing it to Middle Easten stations 15 minutes ago.

10:27 p.m. EDT Update: ABC News confirms from Baghdad that former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been executed by hanging.

As the snow goes......we missed that last one and only got 14 inches out of the last one.....34 from the week before.....that makes 4 feet in 10 days at my house....

I love to drive in the snow.....

BG, on the night of the last storm...i was looking at my fence, and there was a little bird with its little foot caught in the fence....it was getting snowed on and would have died, but I held the bird and my wife used a screw driver to pry the fence apart.....I Saved the little bird...i kept it over night to dry it and rest it, in the morining it flew away.......its the little things HUH?

I would love to see that much snow. I've only seen deep snow on one occasion even though I've traveled a lot, and it just leaves me in awe. Must be fun! Dave and our boy are up in Crested Butte with my in-laws, skiing. They're supposed to return tomorrow, but I wonder if their scheduled flight out of Crested Butte can get back to Denver and then the bigger one can get out of there for Dallas. I hope so. I want them back!

The guy was among the biggest pieces of shit on this earth, but does that make it our duty to kill him?
I feel like:
1) rotting in the joint for his life time would be worse than death
2) who are we to end anyones life?
3) who decided hanging was not cruel and unusual punishment?

Also, if you believe in god and stuff, which i dont but i just wanna throw it in there as food for thought, depending on your religion i know in christianity and judaism god gave the commandment not to kill. im pretty sure that doesnt have any exceptions. he never said it was ok to kill evil men, he just said dont kill.
I mean i know society has to deal with him in some way so he's not a threat, but that's what jail is for. Im just totally against the idea of killing in all respects, just morally: war, capital punishment... all that stuff.


Does anyone share this opinion? I feel like i'm the only one.

We? Unless your Iraqi "we" didn't kill anyone. He was found guilty and sentenced through an Iraqi court. This was a big reason why they didn't start the trials until after the elected government took control. They wanted his trial conducted by the Iraqi people.........not American.
