you're just hearing the worst of the worst.
when you get a lil pup, the first thing you'll notice is that your heart melts and you know that you'll never stop loving the little pooch.
it's a responsibility that some can't handle by themselves but when you fall in love with something, you do whatever it takes to make it work.
I have two fairly recently adopted dogs, CC, and they're the first dogs I've ever had. I grew up with cats. Because I didn't have much dog or puppy experience, I adopted these as adults instead of getting a puppy and trying to rear it to adulthood. So getting a dog that's already grown might be a solution.
If you get a puppy, everything I've heard recommends dog-owners educate themselves about dog training by reading a lot. They say crate-training works wonders in helping house-break them, and my dogs love their crates and feel safe in there. You definitley have to give little ones and big ones alike plenty of rawhides and other appropriate things to chew so they don't go after shoes or furnishings. And also, the difficulty in training a puppy or dog depends to some extent on their breed, too. Some breeds train more easily than others because they're just naturally smarter. I have Chihuahuas, and they are sort of in the middle. I wanted a bichon frise, but I read that they can be hard to train. Many of the terrier breeds are easy to train because they're quite smart.
they are not hard to train but,,, if you don't have patients,,,get a cat cause dogs need a lot of attention...
Yes, not hard to train but it takes time. Plan on a puppy not being fully housebroke until four to six months old. Chewing can be controled by giving them "Cheweez" or pig ears...anything for them to chew on. If you are planning on leaving it alone for hours I strongly urge you to go to your local pound and pick out an adult dog that is already trained. Most shelters offer them on a trial basis so you can be sure to get matched up with one that best fits into your life. You'll miss out on the joys of puppyhood but you'll save your carpet, shoes, rolls and rolls of toilet paper, etc etc etc. LOL
But well worth any damage they might cause...!
Golden retrievers chew like mad, lol our dog like...ate part of the wall. haha...
and he broke an "indestructible" bone in like a month...needless to say hes broken other non-indestructible ones, but right now he's got a different indestructible one that is still alive.
Just be prepared to look after it...seriously, all it takes is 5 minutes to chew something up good.
I forgot exactly how long we've had 'em, but he doesn't chew random stuff anymore. Its probably been like 6 months, and we got him as a puppy.
Golden retrievers pwn though.
dont get a dog, get a monkey instead.
youve got a smoking buddy always with you, and on top of that, theyre cool as hell.
but you want to get a female, otherwise your going to have.....monkey......err......fluids all over the place.
there is no such thing as a bad dog just a bad owner. CC dogs need 2b trained well, may take a bit of time but if u dont put alot of effort in for the first 6 mths atleast you will regret it. a well trained dog is a great pet, untrained is a trouble stressfull pet. if u really want a dog do a bit of research to see what breed would suit you, make sure u have the time, love and patience, if u have you will end up with a great companion:D
Plenty of exercise. Here's how to teach them how to sit. Show them a treat and then close your hand. The dog will try and figure out how to get you to open your hand. Eventually he'll sit down on his own and this is when you say sit and give him the treat. Then repeat until he recognises the word. It may be easier said then done, but it can be be done.
My mate has an ex police sniffer dog, erm... i dunno what their called, like a spaniel... maybe anyway, i almost always have gear so when i go round there it's a game of find the weed. He's one of the dogs that are trained to sit down when they smell out the drugs... and he always sits down infront of me at the door and he wont let me through, but when my mate whistles he walks away... now that's good training...
I wouldnt mind having a ex police dog, but i'd want an alsasion [sp? lol]
Nice and violent.
are you getting puppy or a dog if you dont want it to chew your house to shit like mine did i say get a dog that already trained:rastasmoke:
na i would recomend getting a puppy. i have a 1 1/2 year old springer spaniel thats the sam dog as what lip was talking about and there cool as hell. never really had any troubles with him shitting or pissing in the house after the first month just be sure to let them out in a garden or somewhere outside, when he used to do his buisness in the house i would walk him over to it say 'whats this' in a sturn voice and give him a tap on the nose, he soon caught on, its good because your nt just smacking em your shwing them what theyve done wrong. he never really chewed shit either but i kno my grandads dog did when she was a pup nt sure what he did but i can find out for you if you realllly want me to.
anyway yer when you getthe dog show it lots of love and affection and they wont be to hard to train.
o yea whenver you train them when they do the thing write give them tonns of praise and a treat :)

Breeds of dogs have some really significant differences. For example, chows are a breed that is said to be toilet trained from birth. Beagles, on the other hand, seem to have more problems getting their mind around the "pee outside the house" concept. If you know what characteristics you want in a dog, check out some dog books and you're likely to find a breed that fits your life better.

sorry josh have to disagree on that bit.when u was a kid did your mum stick your nose in your piss and shout at you if you had an accident lol.
Newspaper is the best way to house train your dog, never hit the dog, rewards is the way to go.
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/searchcategories.htm this site has a little quiz you can take to see what breeds might work best for you and it tells you about each breed. If youre not sure you're ready to take on the training a puppy might need just adopt an adult dog. There are more adults that need loving homes than there are puppies so you'd be saving one, and adults can be a lot easier to start with because they already know the basics (like not going to the bathroom inside). When we got my dog he was 6 months so he was already potty trained but he still had a very puppy like personality. Good luck if you decide you want to get one.
[quote=weedmaster]sorry josh didnt read properly thought u meant u stuck the dogs nose in it,i do know some people do that, once again sorry m8:jointsmile:Quote:

i think this calls for a post your pet thread lol
First off you should get a Pit, there easy to train as long as you dont let it be "boss" in the relationship. you just show him who's The dog owner (dont hit though) be aggressive and dominant.
omg are you actually a fucking idiot, excuse my language. you are telling a first time dog owner that his first dog should be a pitbull terrier....dude these dogs are illegal in england for a reason. there little shits.
Thanks for all your opinions and help everyone, yeah i agree with the idea that its better to buy a dog already trained but in some ways its better to buy it from a puppy becuase it knows your its owner if you bring a already grown up dog into a new house it will be scared and wont be used to it
Most handlers for entertainment dog shows (like circus dogs) get theirs from pounds for a very good reason though...the smarter dogs will show their willingness to cooperate right away along with their appreciation for saving their lives! Some, granted not all, are sent away for no fault of their own and seem to realize their situation and will do almost anything to please and keep their new masters happy! Just be patient when and if you search for a pound dog, but there are some excellent dogs to be found in them.
goddamnit, this thread has made me want another dog.
ive been researching through some and the bergamasco seems to match up with what would be best for my lifestyle.....except im not a shepherd, plus when they get older they get dreadlocks.
nothing really to do with training, but dont feed your dogs rasins or grapes they are very toxic to animals. Look it up if you dont believe me, i read it at the vets so i dont got a link.
