Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Here are the (hopefully!!!) three girls - first at about a week old, and then a little over four weeks. Aren't they sweet? They've had a little superthrive this week, and I ordered some Gro Big fertilizer so next week I will give them some of for the first time.
I also ordered bat guano- I couldn't resist! When should I feed them that delicacy?
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Lookin' good... ;)
sounds like youve got plans on your hands...
i would say let them grow pretty big in those pots, and when the time comes to start flowering, re-pot them, use the bat guano and soil in the new pots, also, (if you have any) a few worm castings thrown in for fun should give them a nice boost too...
That way your plant will get a huge boost through the most part of flowering, which is always good ;)
Do whatever you feel works best, im only saying what I would do in that situation... - good luck... I'm watching ;)
p.s. are you gonna top one?
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
well, it's about time!:D i've been waiting to see these girls. they look great, but i think maybe they could use a good nitrogen burst... they're kinda little for 4 weeks, but they do look mighty healthy:thumbsup: when are you planning to flower? and what about the other babies?
love, kp:p

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Hi honey! Oh man, I have been abusing the girls since those pictures were taken:(
I put them too close to the 600HPS and one set of their leaves got fried- and this was after over-watering Big Girl...but they all seem to have survived. They are now two feet from the light, which I really hope is far enough away. The new leaves coming in aren't crispy, though one or two look a little mottled. Yesterday I FIM'd one and topped the other two for comparison. I will take pics tomorrow and post for diagnosis- they are bigger and growing, so perhaps my mistakes won't be deadly-
Two of the 5 PPP that germinated have popped out of the soil, and three of the DurbanXSkunk#1 have germed, so the next generation has just begun.
I may see stinky tomorrow, and she has a few beans to share, so who knows what might be growing soon? I look forward to try my hand at breeding- but I am concentrating on not killing the ones I have now! I am praying these three are girls...at what age will I see preflowers? I am not certain of the girls' exact date of sprouting, but it seems they came out the last week of November... I would need to go back to my posts to be sure.
Hope you are well- and that 2007 brings you everything you need and then even some of what you want:)

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Nice plants you got there, LBM.:)
You should be able to tell sex by the eighth week of veg, sometimes sooner, depending on strain. Time now to start feeding with a good veg fert (high in nitrogen), half strength at first, bumping it up as the plants take off.
Good luck with your grow!:pimp:

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
your plants should start showing anytime now... you could go ahead with force flower if you wanted to, i usually go one month then flower... seeing that you've fim'd them, i'd wait at least one week before putting them on 12-12. glad to hear your other babies are doing ok, and you and stinky smoke one for me, will ya?
happy new year!
love, kp:p

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Here are some new pictures of the three BH babies, and you can see the recent FIM on some of them-
I am going to upload some pictures of leaves with heat scorch - and some other mottling that I presume is from the same thing. The newer leaves seem okay, so I guess 2 ft from the light is okay now.
I am also going to post the first pictures of my PPP seedlings- two so far!
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Here are the two newborn PPP's- three more germinated in the towel and I am just waiting for them to show their faces above ground.
Then there are pictures of my errors - the heat scorch! You might also notice the tip of one of the larger leaves is chopped off- I passed too close by with a pest strip and the adhesive grabbed my poor plant and ate it! It's a dangerous place in my growroom!
I plan to feed the triplets their first diluted dosage of Grow Big later this week. We are going to construct the flowering room this week- and put in venting for in and outgoing air. So far we've just used fans, but we need more once we divide the room in half.
Thank you for all your support and suggestions- it is great to learn from your experience-

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
looking ok, lbmom, did you have a good new year? did you meet up with stinky?
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Hi kp- Happy New Year to you! Stinky and I didn't meet, because it was absolutely pouring out, but she might be coming down next weekend. We just had a good phone chat.
I just saw "An Inconvenient Truth" and it was great! I am going to add it to my Philosophy syllabus for next semester.
So far New Year's has been lazy! My husband is snoozing, my cat Sugaray is snoozing and I'm not far behind:)

Hey all. thought it was about time I helped out here; I have a bunch of pictorials to publish...anyway. plants look good. A few pointers for you.
AD and KP are steering you in the right direction, but I would like to add:
when judging your light distance...place your hand at top of grow canopy...lower light until it is hot on your hand and you wouldn't leave it there...raise lights 2-3 inches and keep light at that distance from now on. you can get even closer if you have a fan dedicated to the airspace directly between the hood and the canopy.
never add nutes to seedlings...Never! wait until you have at least 4-5 alternating nodes and only use diluted formula's for a week; just to acclimate the plants. Nutrient Manufactureres have already figured out the right dosage values needed...So mix according to direction's. don't overfert...make sure that you water in between nutrients, especially in soil. Don't overwater.
In soil...you don't need to add nutes every single or sometimes at all except when plants show a need.
As far as lack of nutrients causing smallish growth in regards to these seedlings...I don't think so...the seedlings in post #1 were too immature for feeding. Plants look like they are not growing when theya re taking root. For some reason yours took awhile to root...Keep in mind that rooting sprouts is not considered vegging. veg starts when you have 4-5 alternating nodes and sprouts have become seedlings by rooting.
Your pots are perfect...looks like one gallon. I start my seeds right in similar pots when growing in soil. 2 weeks before flower...I transplant into 3 gallon pots...peace

Hi latewood- Thanks for all the great info! So vegging doesn't start until the 4 or 5 nodes? I sure didn't know that- I was counting from when their little heads broke soil! I guess the triplets have just started vegging then- and they should keep going until they are about 18 inches- I think that is what perp told me?
True confessions- although I haven't given them any nutes yet, I mixed a little regular planting mix that I didn't realize had ferts with their seed start mix when I moved them to their current pots, until I noticed a few little green pellets in the soil - I tried to pick them out at the time and thought that it wouldn't matter, but perhaps some of what I think is heat scorch is really nutes??? Bad mommy :o - anyway, with that in mind, maybe I should hold off on the Grow Big another week.
I have attached a picture of my current room- is this the best way to use the 600W? I'm a visual person and still cannot quite picture the layout you suggest, so bear with me.
I have also attached a picture of one of the girls on which I am trying a little technique- no strings, just gentle twisting so that the two top sets of leaves are lying on top of each other, so that the smaller ones below get light. I am not sure if it will work, but think it looks cool. I shoudl probably submit this under the forum of wacky techniques, but then again, my entire growlog maybe should be under that subforum...hee hee
The last picture is of my babytray- it's got PPP, DPSkunK#1 and 5 kinds of basil.

1st Pic upload failed, here's the 2nd try!
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Nice start to I bet a good LOOONG log! :D
Glad to see everyone has recovered from their various mishaps... chalk it up to learning and the girls are going to be fine!
I'd wait a bit before forcing, especially if you have room to play around with larger plants.
Man I was bummed that the weather was so rotten yesterday, freezing rain out my way, cars sliding all over the roads, ick! But we had a great chitchat and decided that thinking about global climate change was probably NOT the very best way to put a good spin on the new year!!!! hhaha!
I see other plants in there with the girlies... pics?

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Hey there- those other plants are roma tomatoes, and there are also pots of swiss chard, lemon basil, peppers, and dill. Isn't there another veg forum for regular edibles? I thought I saw that somewhere..? Anyway, I am going to be starting lots of stuff at the end of next month for the outside garden, but these I am trying for the first time with only inside lighting- not sure when the tomatoes will decide to flower, since they don't really follow light cycles. M husband and I make a mean pesto, so I have started a big batch of basil for that- I use them in the garden as ornamentals too.
The two lame durbanskunk seeds aren't doing squat today, so I am going to try to germ a few more, and maybe a couple more PPP. i don;t want to end up with just one or two plants- if I could get four females I would be very happy. kp said she was sending some beans my way too, but so far the robin hasn't arrived.
Hope you can swing by next weekend and visit Boston!
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Yeah me too I have some extra veggies to unload on you, wink wink nudge nudge... make some room in that there garden!!! :D
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
lm...you light looks fine, but a little high I would think. as far as veggies. I have a sticky at the indoor forum, but if you are interested, I am trying to build some traffic at my hydro veggie site...
http://www.hygronomics.com I would love to see you guys there! We were just getting up and running and then the Host just dumped a bunch of us, off the server...It took me almost a month to rebuild and now the forum is dead. I have a ton of stuff to post and teach, but I get tired of posting to myself col...So anyway. later

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
hi latewood, just registered, looking forward to chatting with you, where can i find you there?
hi lbmom, your new "veggies" are going out as soon as my work schedule cahnges to afternoons; post isn't open when i go to work, and they had just closed when i got there yesterday.... rrrrrrr! everything is ready, i've just got to get them metered and out... sorry for the delay, but i swear, i've been trying to get them out for two weeks! rrrrr!
kp:p
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
no problem dear kp- I certainly appreciate contributions to my veggie garden ;) and when the season arrives, I am sure the robin will fly!
Say, if any of the bluehaze triplets are males, should I let one live to be a daddy - of course in a separate residence - to maybe polinate a branch from a lady? I think I saw something in your college curriculum about that; I need to study harder!
Hope your year is off to a good start!
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
i would deffinitlely back cross, keeping a male for male clones. this will allow you to refine the strain, and make your own crosses in the future. you can pollenate a branch by using a fine paint brush, gently brushing the hairs with pollen. you can then place something over it for a day to help keep pollen from spreading (and if you have fans running, expect some accidentals). after a day, take off the bag(paper is good) and mist rather heavily to wash out any left over pollen.
after trying the isolated pollenation technique, i've decided to use clones from now on, putting them in a sepparate space (like stinky's male boxes) one male clone and four or five females. takes a little longer to get beans, but it leaves the originals seedless and sensi:D
i finally get a day off tomorrow, so i'll deffinitely be going to the post.
love, kp:p
ps, year is off to a pretty good start so far, how bout you?
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
I am in and out over there kp...I am modifying it almost everyday...we are still kind of under construction...You saw it all torn up and using just the default theme...thanks for registering.
as far a skeeping male...1st you better make sure that the pollen stays secure and don't let it anywhere near your flower room or your screwed
another thing is: You better have plenty of time and space to deal with breeding...just a warning. peace see ya at Hdot
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
latewood has a good point that i didn't stress too well, however, i'm thinking you can manage a malebox, like stinky uses, they're compact and stackable (if exhaust is on the back) and you can fit several small female clones in there...
my bird flew away...
kp:p
ps, latewood, i'm sorry babe, i've spent like 30 mins on the new site... i promise to give it a good go round tonite. just make sure you check in on me every now and then, update me on how things work over there, and tutor me on the new stuff. ;)
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Thank you dear kp- With the weather so nice, and the little bird flying south, it feels a lot like Spring!
I shall have to think more about this breeding. Maybe I should practice a bit longer with the basic setup with some clones... I don't know. The space may be an issue- we are turning the other room in the basement into a workout space - which I deperately need (too many christmas cookies!) so we'll see.
The triplets are looking very strong, and two more PPP sprouted from the seeds, so I popped them into sponges in the Biodome (and covered them so they were dark) in with the itty-bitty basil, sage and chamomile seedlings!
The freebie pack hasn't yielded anything :( oh well, no loss-

Its been awhile since we had any consistant comradery around here...Maybe we are finally past the Marc Emery/OG low time, and we can start ahving more fun again...Damn I still miss 'ol Harddon.
p.s. KP I am there mostly at night, jus post and check, because when I do check in I usually answer immediately...peace

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
umm, i gess maybe i shouldn't be talking cannabis over there?
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
right. you can discuss legalization or mmj in politics or somewhere, but no pot piks growing...as it affects my affiliate link program. Most all the techniques are the same...the only difference being...you don't generally manipulate the light photoperiod with vegetables. If you ask a farmer or feed and seed guy about flowering a fruit...he knows you are growing his favorite plant...the one we can't always talk about.
There is plenty of other things to do. (new arcade!!!)
I need team members to help build the site (writing) anyone who writes a good article...I will publish it on the frontpage, and eventually we will have a community built archive.
I have a ton of info to post, but I just haven't finished building all my modifications, and testsites. peace

i'm down, what do you need me to do?

Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Hi friends- Whew- I survived the first week of classes, and now have some time to post some new pictures of all the (hopefully!!!!) girls- I can't tell yet.
Big Girl is the largest of the blue haze triplets- she's 12 inches tall and 20 inches wide (a big-boned girl) and the other two are not far behind. The photo of the seedlings are PPP - One looks great, another looks good, and the last two look pretty puny but they are still very young.
And then today I put in a paper towel in the bio dome, 2 BB seeds, 2 BBxTrainWreck, and 2 SageX - can't wait until these little ones sprout:)
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
Big Girl has a fat ass! Nice. :) They look really good.

very nice. those do look nice and fat and healthy. I have to look back, to find out, your soil mix.

Thanks! I used Scott's seed starting/fast rooting mix with Phosphorus, mixed with a little extra perlite. I plan to add Black Gold when I repot to flower. I gave them a diluted feeding about a week ago, and will give them a full strength tomorrow. I ordered some tiger bloom and will use that in flowering. Do you think I should take clones now, since it has been about a week since I FIM'd ? Or should I let them get a little bigger, top them, wait a week and then put into flower?
Also, can you tell the sex yet? I am getting very anxious to find out!
I want to check out your veg site- I am growing a lot of basil and peppers right now!
I use basil in my flower gardens and we make a hot sauce from our peppers every year, so this time I went crazy and started about 8 different types, so it should be a banner year for hot sauce!
-
Liberiamom's Blue Haze grow
you need to take your clones a week or 2 before you flower...this allows plant to recover from the shock of chopchop...
sex? Not yet, I usually clone and veg clones and then flower mom to sex...then kill the males once sex is determined
Post some piks of your veggies over there. All the membership so far are interested or already grow veggies of some sort or another, but we love "peppers".
I want herb grows and I currently just started some chinese cukes and romaine, I will be posting grows of, if they pop. peace

go ahead and take your cuttings... you gonna do two each?

hey ya'll I added a private board for mmj at my site. I know you guys were asking. So I need someone to test something for me. KP I know you are registered. I need to know if you can see latewood'labs at Hdot forums at the bottom under the community boards. thanks
as soon as you tell me yay or nay, I can change your permissions...so you can get in.

Ahem, let's get back to my blue haze babies.
Now I know it is probably too soon to tell their sex, but can anyone give me a hint from these blurry pictures? I don't know why they are so blurry. I will go back and try for better ones.
