Weird (perhaps sick) thought on sexual taboos...

Ok, I was harping on this guy (in a playful way) who was complaining he was whacking off too much. I told him if he didnt want to whack off just think of his parents having sex.

Ok, I dont want to think of my parents having sex but it got me to thinking what is so wrong about 'parents having sex'? Is this just a USA thing or is this more or less universal? I mean, if your parents didnt have SEX then you obviously wouldnt be here... So again, why is it we have such a aversion to the thought of the 'folks' bumping boots?

I still dont like thinking about it but I'll be goddamned if I can come up with a good reason why. Opinions?

Simple... it's ingrained culturally and probably even deeper than that to find family members sexually repulsive... prevents incest.

ive caught my parents having sex and to me its no big deal really, my mom walked in on me one time and acted like nothing was going on and started talking to me.......kinda wierd but who cares right.

Hmmm, I think the way I may have worded this perhaps gave the wrong impression... I dont mean 'thinking of your parents having sex as in imagining it in porno vision your parents humping' I'm talking about just the idea.

I mean I understand the incest deal but I dont have a problem with the idea of my little brother fucking. I mean I could be in the next room drinking some Bud Light and toking away while he drills his gf in the next room and I couldnt care less. But if I so much as thought the 'folks' were fucking I would probably upchuck my beer. Even when my dad kisses my mom I'm like 'Jesus, cut it out'. It just doesnt 'seem' right to me they even show too much affection... Maybe its just me or something. Cause I understand the incest thing but I think my aversion goes deeper then that.

Oh wait... Duh. I think I get it now. Since I look at my mom and dad as being FAMILY, the idea of them having sex in a way is like incest... Its cool when its a sibling cause they arent fucking someone else you consider family.

Ok, I get it now. Whoa. The things you think about when stoned. Well atleast that is one demented thing I can actually check off that I dont have. Whew.

people think its gross because of incest and stuff like that, but i dont think its that gross, i mean, if i had a kid, and i was a parent, yea, i'd be a parent having sex with my husband if that makes any sense

I think kids have a certain uneasiness in viewing their parents as sexual beings. When we're interacting with our kids or are focused on our children as parents, sex doesn't come into play in that relationship. But when the kid sees or imagines the parents as natural, lustful adults with one another, that makes the kid uneasy because it's a new and unfamiliar was of looking at parents. Our son doesn't like to be reminded that his father and I are passionate about each other, and he once learned the hard way that he shouldn't barge into our room early in the morning without knocking. He still refers occasionally to the costly in-depth therapy he'll need to recover from that incident.

Parents aren't always at ease thinking of their children as sexual beings, either. I'm not entirely comfortable thinking of my son having sex with one of his several lady friends, but I know it happens. I just hope he's been listening to all our "safe sex" preaching over the years and won't surprise us with an unexpected grandbaby before he's grown and married and has a steady, good job. As we get older and more able to regard one another as adults and break further out of the parent-child pattern, I think we increasingly develop comfort with the idea of the other party(ies) being sexual. Like now that I'm grown and I look back on my own growing-up years, I think it was kind of sweet that my parents were hot for each other. I hope my son will someday feel the same way and be glad it's the same way for his dad and me.

Then again, sigmund floyd invented a theory saying that all children experience incestious urges at a very young age. That is why boys are more likely to be mamma boys, and girls more likely to be *daddies girl*
This creates basic urges preventing homosexuality and jealousy among the same sex, causing sex that will produce offspring to happen more oftenly.

All of that is just a theory that noone wants proven though, so noone has ever tried.

It's called the Oedipus Complex when a little girl loves her daddy way too much, vice versa with mom and son. They supposedly become jealous of the other parent's time spent with "their" parent...

His name was Sigmund Freud, and the theory of the Oedipal conflict/attachment wasn't about reproduction, WayoftheLeaf, it was about children's unconscious desire for the parent of the opposite sex, a phase they go through in early childhood and which Freud believed could be the origin of childhood and adult neuroses. Freud was also the one who defined the early childhood phases with names (oral, anal, phallic) and believed that trouble in those phases accounted for different character fixations later in life. According to Papa Freud, Oedipal conflicts arise during the phallic stage of children's development from age 3 to 7.

Oedipal and psychosexual development theory is complex, and much of it is no longer subscribed to in modern psychology, although Freudian psychiatrists and analysts are still heavily invested in most of it. We studied Freud's theories (and many others) earlier this past semester in my medical psychopathology class.

Object relations is a real new surge in psych (spawning books with titles like "This Changes Everythinig"), but other than that, I love the general abandonment of Freud. I studied in London over the summer, and they were all shocked that American college students, in general, learn to laugh at Freud. I've wondered if those profs opinion is the universal one in the UK.
