Major Cautions

This generator has been designed specifically for hydroponics use and should give you many, many hours of faithful service in your quest as a successful grower. However, there are certain cautions that need your full attention. Always make sure that the ozone water purifier is always much higher than the reservoir tank. If water gets in to the unit, there is a good chance that it will be permanently damaged and the warranty will be made void.

Use For a Few Minutes Per Day. A plant breathes in Co2 and expels oxygen O2, in the day cycle of growing. Ozone O3, is activated oxygen and like most molecules in the world it can be toxic at certain levels, so it is important not to generate ozone for too long. Too much ozone can disrupt the respiratory cycle of your plants and too little ozone can allow a disease to attack your plants.

Natural Ozone provides one of the most amazing growth increases, providing you run it for the right amount of time per day. Ozone provides a boost of activated oxygen to the rootzone for the assimilation of nutrients and minerals etc.

Using a pumpâ??s venturi to pull the ozone down the line

When you use your pumpâ??s venturi to achieve a greater amount of ozone available for your roots, there is a greater risk of a back flow of water to enter into the generator. When using a venturi pump, you must make sure that you use a non-return valve to prevent any back flow of water. If you do not have a pump with a venturi, you should look at getting one.

Venturi means â??a vacuuming effectâ??, so the pumps sucks the ozone out of the generator. The Aqua One 103 or Aqua One 104 (pictured) seems to work really well. In the meantime, you can begin with using the air stone).

Using the Air Stone

As the ozone water purifier comes with an inbuilt air pump that blows the ozone down the line, simply attach the hose to the unit, and the other end of the hose, attach to the airstone. Drop the air stone into the tank and turn the unit on.When using for the first time, allow a minute or so for the stone to become unblocked.You should notice that there is a stream of bubbles coming from the airstone.

Using the air stone in a reservoir tank does not prevent algae growth in a tank as the ozone bubbles are not able to reach all of the tank. The air stoneâ??s bubbles rise straight up and therefore are lost. This is where using a pump with a venturi is far more efficient as a pump circulates the water around and therefore ozonates the total volume of the tank.

Hand Watering With Ozone Gives the Best Results!

As most Scarid Fly / Fungus Gnats, reside around the top of the root zone of a plant, it is therefore much better to apply ozone from a hand water situation as this can allow a greater root coverage as well as a saturation of the first few centimeters of where the roots and stem meet. Simply place your pump or air stone into a bucket of water, (again making sure that the unit is well above the height of the water). Run ozone in bucket for several minutes;5 mins for health plants, 10 mins for unhealthy plants. Take a scoop of water and pour as quickly as possible over the roots to be treated. As ozone is a short-lived molecule, it can only last for several minutes in the water after the generator has been switched off after which it reverts back to oxygen, so it is important to apply as soon as possible after water is taken from the bucket.

Cuttings

Dip your cuttings in ozonated water and you mau never loose another cutting again! A few moments is all that is required.

For young cuttings (2-7 days) try a 30 second dip

For older cuttings (7+ days) try a full minute

If cuttings already have a disease, try 2 minutes.

For best results attach the flexible hose to the venturi section of your pump to allow the natural ozone to immediately contact the roots. Unfortunately, ozone will only last for the first five metres of travel, afterwhich ozone willquickly convert back to oxygen. But at least the water is much cleaner for the rest of the plants further down the gully.

I am a retail hydro store owner, I am telling you I have gotten a few for a customer who had problems with pythium, he runs the ozone pump continuously and has had no problems. I am not advertising here so I am limited to what I can say but there are ozone pumps on ebay by enaly that are cheap and work great. Ozone in high concentration can harm you. It can make your lungs bleed and you will drown in your own blood. But it has to be highly concentrate, Ozone in the water from this pump is not strong enough to do damage to you. Unless you are dunking your head into the water and drowning yourself LOL. I used to work for a company that used an ozone generator to kill smells in homes. We had to make the people leave the house run the machines for 24hrs, leave notices on all entrances, and come back wearing a gas mask open all windows and doors and let it eevacuate for at least 20-30 minutes before anyone could enter. I doubt we went through all that for nothing but it was an industrial strength generator so it produced mass amounts of ozone. There are small units for air that people run all day in offices/homes with no ill effects. All in all it is a safe idea for cleaning your water, only problem is it can kill beneficial bacteria and fungus as well. So if you need to use a product like subculture or Voodoo Juice/Pirahna to add these back to the water after ozonation if you only use it once to clean. Hope this helped and didn't ramble too much,

i had a real bad run of probs with my dwc and an unkown bacteria. cluey old bloke put me onto ozone and i aint looked back. i run it twice a day for 10 mins on low setting. he recommended 3 x 5mins during lights on but my sytem is 150L or so.

Also many homes in asia use ozone to clean their food. they have the same ozone unit for hydro use under there kitchen sinks with an airstone that sits in the sink. they fill sink and wash all types of food in it before cookin.

They are like 4-500 for say a 20 gal res but I think we may see the market come down a bit as this tech is real mainstream now for the coral/plants/tropical fish and from the reading you may need a OPR (Oxidation Reduction Potential) meter... Because shock treatment will mess with your mag. and iron....ooh one more meter I need! But to treat incomming water...excllent
But if you are useing Rock Wool or have ever had pith or gnats... I would spend the $$$

Hozelock 3 in 1 pond filter, £50 best piece of kit I've bought in a while.
UV, regular mesh foam, and bio filter.

Well I treat with O3 before I pump the water into my res but not when my plants are in the same room. Ozone is extremely corrosive and is one of the strongest oxidixers known to man. I would be very careful with this one. Ozone is generated as a gas and is pumped in the res...that gas will escape and be exposed to the tops of your plants, not good.

I use H2O2....it raises the dissolved O2 quite a bit over a much longer period of time...Ozone does have its place though.

The uv is sealed in and the water is trickled thru the chamber the uv light is in. I also got UVtesters that come with uvonair generators

If I were to do this UV would be the safest way to go....the levels are very low compared to corona discharge generators which require you to pump the O3 through the water.

I use a UV filter for a saltwater aquarium, and as long as time has gone on, there has been the debate between the ozone users and the uv users, I went with UV as it fit my aquarium setup quite nicely, vs. the ozone which would have required a new protein skimmer, and I didn't want that hanging off the back of my tank (the entire filtration system is built into the back of the tank, all acrylic, totally custom setup (at the time)) and the skimmer that is incorporated doesn't accommodate ozone well.

Either one will sanitize your water. The UV filters are cheap and easy and safe.

Certain UV makes ozone at a low level...could be a good way to make it instead of corona discharge....easier to maintain safe levels. Also I did some reading and O3 is good for plants if the CO2 level is high enough....its much better than CO2 alone.

Yes, I'm thinking that O3 would be more beneficial in a plant growing situation. In the aquarium world, all we're worried about is sanitizing the water, which is why UV vs. O3 is more of a legitimate discussion...

Hi guys
I bought small generator to use around house : drinking ozonated water for health benefit, to purify drinking water etc.
So I figured out that plants may benefit as well - especially after reading previous posts.

My only concern is : Does the ozone will not oxidise the nutrients- causing them to "lock up", being no more available for plants. I use chemical nutes called "chempak" :) + liquid seaweed (unpasteurised I guess) + super thrive + some extras sometimes. I grow in soil.
I was thinking just to ozonate nutrient tank with nu just before watering.
Did anybody done it before ? I could do it for few test plants but maybe somebody else done it already and can save me the work.

I think that in case if ozone does "lock up" the nutes - ozonate the water during flush since it has to be plain water anyway.

What are your opinions.
