So wen the pound opens we are returning her. I just dunno what to do. My moms like If u help me clean up ill get u an Iguana. Im like wtf? how the hell does that compare to a dog in anyway shape or form? well fuck it guys im so upset this is the 2nd dog in a row that iv had that was incredibly hard to train. the last 1 turned out to have a tumor and put down, Why me :( im so fucking upset

not a lizard-how about a snake. a pretty little boa to cuddle up with on a cold winter night (don't get him stoned, they really don't like the smoke). get him young and raise him right (a lot of work, but no chewing or shitting on the carpets). you might be surprised at how affectionate a snake can seem and they aren't as needy as a warm-blooded pet, you can leave for the week-end and not worry about the damage they're doing in your absence. no, they won't fetch your slippers or bring in the morning paper, but such activities are highly overrated.
and in those more introspective moments a snakes eyes can be hypnotic

Real sorry to hear about your puppy, Greenport. Is there any hope y'all could take him to the vet before returning him to the pound and consult with the vet about his destructive chewing behavior? Lots of dogs go through long, potentially destructive oral phases. Labs are famous for that, too. But with proper crating, plenty of interaction and chew toys, and sometimes also with some sort of different behavioral training, they can be directed in other ways. Sounds like he's a good pet otherwise. I hate for your mom to be so hasty about returning a pet you're very fond of.

The cat only suffers long term damage from de-clawing if it's done improperly.
-

I have two cats that have all their claws, and they only claw scratching posts or intentional clawing surfaces I have around. If you get them young and direct them to claw in that way, they aren't destructive. Also, you may be able to adopt an adult cat that's already been declawed. My last cat was that way--she'd been declawed before I adopted her.
Your mom's not very tolerant of pets, is she?

That's great advice, there's a lot of homeless house pets out there.. that may seem angry and afraid at the world and everything around em, but in reality just want a nice warm, loving home.
If anything you'd think that his mother would be more inclined to get something cute and fuzzy than something scaley and cold blooded :o

If a dog eats anything it will cost U and the dog a lifetime of grief... The dog usually ends up at the vet with it's inside being opened up... good advice is to adopt an older dog that would love attention and a good home... go to the ASPCA,,,they test their pets before they go up for adoption...

Nah, I'm just messing with you.
Sorry to hear about your dog, but it sounds to me like this dog needs to be taught some manners and what he is allowed to do, and not do. When he does something bad, you smack them on the ass and tell them NO! It takes a good dozen times, but eventually they won't like being smacked on the butt and they will learn their lesson.
If your dog is eating all of this stuff, it sounds like the dog has 0% disipline. You just let him do whatever he wants and when it does something bad, you don't punish.
As bad as it sounds smacking a dog, it's only on the bum, and when I was a lad, my folks spanked my ass all the time. It's the only way animals/humans learn, you don't do that, and they feel they have the freedom to do whatever they want...both animals and humans.
But yeah get a kitty!

Dog. Man's best friend. If I didnt have mine I'd seriously be lost.
-

Rabbits are cool too.
A little more affectionate than a cat, can be litter-trained.
But they also have a tendency to chew on power cords... so that might be a problem in your case...

Bring in the dog whisperer. I love dogs and cats so much, but some types of dogs i'm not really a fan of to be honest.

I've trained many dogs as a profession and still do as a hobby to help friends and neighbors and the one thing most people new with dogs don't realize is it takes a lot of time, patience and most of all LOVE to train a puppy to become a good room mate. They don't take well to training at all for the first 3 to 4 months and I suggest most wait until the puppy is at least 6 months old before expecting to see concrete results. But once you get there you'll have a faithful, loyal and fun friend that you'll be proud of for many years! Most of the training involves teaching the owner how to behave anyway. Dogs want to please, it's usually just a matter of showing the owner what the dog wants!

And "smacking" your dog with a hand or rolled-up newspaper is NOT the way to properly train a dog unless you want one afraid of hands above its head and/or cowering whenever it hears a loud noise. Patience and repetition with rewards for the behavior you want from it is the best way (even if it's a pat on the head with praising words).

My puppy Cooper chews everything, he has actually destroyed the couch cushion, the couch arms, the coffe table legs, my new shoes, socks, underwear, bra, pocket book, everything. One night he was at my feet and was growling. I looked down to see what he was doing and he was chewing on the cord to the cell phone charger. He was growling at it because it was shocking him and he was gettin pissed and would bite it again. I decided to keep lots of toys and bones around for him to chew on and if I catch him chewing on somthing that he isnt suspose to I walk up to him calmly take it away from him tell him no and spank him with it. Its helping alot maybe you could talk to your mom and try some of that and see how it goes and if it dont get any better then look for it a new home. But remeber that all puppies go through a chewing stage and some of them are worse and last longer than others.

Aw dude that sucks. We have 3 dogs. One of thems a boxer and the other is a pug dog. Boxers are the best dogs...they are so friendly....BUT they are so cheeky when they are young, they get more mature when they age. You could get a pug dog, they are cool....they are so cute and ugly at the same time....the puppy we got didn't have any obediance problems or anything...i think they are easy to train? i dont know.
Hope you get a dog which you can keep soon man :(

for lack of a better term, beating your dog isnt always bad, nor is patting them on the head for doing a good deed the best way...
it takes a combination of both, when they do something good, reward them and show them that its the right thing to do. when they do something bad, smack them and show them that it was wrong, make them remember that its not a good thing to do and they get smacked when they do it.
my dad is really good at training dogs, he doesnt abusse his animals like many would think, yea he smacks them for doing stupid shit like trying to attack other dogs, and running away when they are told to stay, but thats how they learn. my dogs are the most well trained dogs out there, you gotta be tough on them if you want them to learn. smacking them wont make them fear you, if anything in the long run itll make them love you because they wont be getting smacked when they stop fucking up lol.
agreed with whoever said it before, thats how humans should be treated too, spankings arent wrong, its just a way to teach childeren, if you dont do it and let them get away with stuff and cave to their every whines and cries, then theyll walk all over you and think they own the world.

it is pretty simple to train a dog... the key ingrediant is "Your the boss"... Dogs are a pack animal and will try to be the leader,,,U just have to be the leader... after you show it your the leader you need to work on respect... the dogs that come from puppy farms come to you screwed up from neglect and abuse it's a whole lot tougher to turn them around than to lead them strait to start...

actually, they eat fruits and vegetables, i'm sure they prolly will eat some crickets, but that's not their primary diet... i wouldn't get an iguana anyways dude, they are really hard to keep alive, and i mean this very literally, they get this disease (i forgot what it's called and does and all that, i've just owned alot of reptiles in my life, and a lot of iguanas) that you can't really prevent, can't do a whole lot about and it's deadly... every last one of my iguana's has been taken within 6 months to a year from this crap :(
get a smaller dog, something in the toy catagorey, hyper as hell but usually the only thing they want to destroy is smaller stuffed animals.

u can try gettin a bird or an ant farm
