thinking of comming out of the weed closet.....

hey guys,

im 20yrs old, live at home now since i got back from the army, in university right now so cant really afford to move out, though am looking for a decent enough job that will allow me to work while i study,

anyway im getting less carefull bout hiding my smoking, they still dont know but im not being as careful as i used to, in highschool it was easy, we were all scared of being caught, but lately its getting frustrating, like in the middle of the day all i wanna do is go outside and spark up a jay, even a cigarette i cant do, im thinking of just sitting the folks down and telling them,
"look mum, dad, i love you both, you know i am a responsible adult, i like to enjoy smoking marijuana every once and a while, im old enough to understand the consequences and risks, but i enjoy smoking it anyway, im old enough to make my own decisions, etc..... blah blah blah"

what do you guys think? should i come out or should i just stay in the closet, try harder to hide it and then let it all out when i finally move out the house.....

i think a good way to 'come out' is to keep it to yourself, make something of your life, and then allow your parents to find out. then that way you can say, "well mom and dad, i'm a pot smoker and have been for many years, but as you can see, i'm am living more than comfortably with my fiance and life couldn't be any better". and they'll be like, "Woahh GetDown! why didn't you let us smoke weed too you ungrateful child. daemon! daemon!"

So glad I have never had this issue. Everyone used to come over to my house back in the day cause my parents were one of the few that didn't care as long as we didn't get in trouble or bother them. Niether of them smoke now, pops used to, mom only did a couple times she says. They like the drink a lot more.

Well, it does sound like a good plan.. to just straight up tell them about your smoking.

However, do you think they will freak out? Do you think they'll demand you to stop or move out? Gotta think about these kinds of things. If you think they'll be upset, but eventually okay with it, then I'd take the chance. Otherwise, don't do it, especially while you're living under their roof. :)

i came out of the closet and now all i hear is from my mom is "why do you smoke?" and " It smells like a pot factory in here!". she asks me why and i tell her that its for my lower back and a pinched nerve in my hip. then she just walks away.

me and my parents have a mutual agreement. basically its not 100% tolerated cause thay kinda know and like i can get baked in my room without getting in trouble but they just dont want to catch me in the act

I say do what you feel is right... I see nothing wrong in having a heart to heart with the parents... you explain a respectfull life and they are to be commended for doing a great job raising you,so with that in my mind I believe they will respect your judgement...

I think for someone who is a 20yr old adult, I think it's time to mature and tell them. Only kids who are afraid of getting caught hide it from mom and dad, but come on man, you're 20yrs old now. Just tell them that they can live to be 120 by smoking marijuana~!

i agree, have a good sit down with them. if they have a problem, jsut dont smoke in their house. but no matter how they react, they are still going to respect you.

its the best idea to be real with yourself and family, make sure they know you a fuckin pot head, and if they dont like it, fuck them

Lol you're 20 yrs old. You should have been told them. I think you should just tell them and what ever happens, happens. You're an adult now and it's time to take responsibility for your self. Just remember to remind them of their past memories of you, even from weeks ago. They probably never knew you were smokin weed..why? Because it doesn't effect your life like actual life destroying addictive drugs do.

Ask yourself this, "What good will it do?". Those close to you probably have already smelled it on your breath, clothes and car and at the very least suspect you're involved or will know soon enough so why bother? The less of a big deal you make it the less it'll be for others.

You should start the "talk" out like this...Look, Mum, dad...uhhhh I have something serious to talk to you about. For like, several years now I have been smoking crack and snorting coc off of prostitutes. After they sh** their pants, you can then tell them that you smoke weed and that you really don't smoke crack or snort coc off of prostitute's asses. Then...it won't be so bad. I don't see how this couldn't work

Im in the same situation. Although Ive been smoking so infrequently and have been so quiet about it I think they've decided I just up and stopped.

Yeh but i dont know...-your 20 so i think your amture enough to tell them. and you seem to be doing reasonably good. so...yeh.

thanks for all the advice guys, im so far leaning towards telling them, though i know they will definately freak, they are really against drugs,

ive applied for a job at a videostore, if i get it im gonna save up and move out into my own place asap, so itll be no longer necesary to tell them, if i dont get it, or dont get any other type of work i will probably have to tell them, they might kick me out for a few days, but they do need me, my mum needs me to do laundry, dishes, make beds and do alot of otherstuff she has trouble doing these days, and my dad needs me to help him do his accounting, type up his emails and organize his business, he cant afford to hire a pro to do all that coz theyd charge him way too much, so at most i might have to crash at a mates place for a few days before they call me to move back in...... theyd obviously demand me to quit but ill just take a stand and say no.....

Personally I think it would be better to let them find out on there own. You dont have to go out of your way to let them know you smoke.

I think you should tell them. If smoking means that much to you, then should be a part of your life you want to share with your parents. I'm sure you're parents would like to know your interests, and if smoking is one of them, why hide it? I doubt at 20 your parents can have that much control over you, you've probably proved yourself responsible, so of course they won't mind right?
I do think you should tell them. Whats the harm?
