A Comment on the Reputation System

Before I start I just want to thank the mods and administrators for their hard work and I am glad they added the reputation system. However, there is a choice for negative reputation and I have no problem with that. What I don't like is when someone leaves negative reputation, it is done anonymously. If someone is going to say something negative about you it should have their name tagged to it. It is to easy for someone to hide behind a nameless insult just because their name is not attached to it. I have no problem if someone disagrees with me on something and wants to disagree with what I have to say but to attack the member is poor forum etiquette. I am pretty sure I know who did it and they have been banned but that is so childish and immature. I have posted on a forum that uses a similar format or template as this one and I am pretty sure that the anonymity feature can be turned on or off so if I am wrong I apologize to the mods and admins. I am also aware that there are cons to attaching member's names to reputation but I think the pros to attaching the name outweigh the cons.

Thoughts?

I don't really understand how this system works. I have been dropping positive reps on folks that post positive and informative information. I didn't know that people actually are notified when a reputation plug is given?

If you click on the scales of your own post it gives you your rep point total and if that post has received rep. If you look on your user cp, it has a detailed summary showing what was said and what posts. Under the post count, you get a green box for every 100 points, if this is similar to other forums using this system. So the more green boxes you have, the better your rep and it shows you are worth listening too.

If it follows the other similar system, the amount of rep a person receives when you rep them will depend on how much rep you have, your post count, and how long you have been a member. People are still catching on since it is new.

I agree. I've had 2 negative feedbacks with insults on them, with no name. That's why i think our names should be attachted to them.

If the comments in my 2 negative reps were on the forums it'd be deleted.

But yeah, the only people who actually give out bad rep and are too scared to put there names are the little kiddies.

tagging would cause Kaos,,,better to just shut the system off... I see it remaining just as it is...

reps are not going to make or break your good persona,,,you do...

Yeah I only got like 4 or 5 people who gave me any rep points and one of them was a negative one. And in the thread I got the neg. one people were wishing every one Happy Halloween. I think they were just being asses.

No it isn't going to break you and if you have been here a while you know who is cool and who is a fool. It is helpful to newcomers though.

Like I said I am not sure what the system is capable of but other forums similar to this enable only the positive rep and have negative rep disabled. That may be another option. Sorry if I am getting ahead of the powers that be!

turning off the neg is a decent idea,but that seems to negate the purpose to me... the net is going to have jerks and I think either we deal with it or not at all,not sensor it...

Actually I laugh at it because racism is funny to me but when it doesn't say who the person is I just feel they take advantage of that and deliberately try to piss me off. If it was one of the people I'm cool with on here then that's fine but if I don't know some one then I don't want them playing with me like I know them...

Where in the user CP can i find these comments?

in rethinking this it may deter negs if the jerk was being exposed...

I have given I think 2 well deserved negs and left a good clue who it was from...

i just checked mine and it said who the reputation was posted by. right next to the comment. before that just said annonymous. its a collumn next to the actual comment it says posted by at the top.

Man, for that reason alone i'd completely get rid of it. Thats fucked, and if thats what the rep system is going to be used for then i dont want it. I know it's not everyone, but one or two people have to fuck it up for everyone.

I said it was shit as soon as they installed it. It only leads to bullshit. Same with postcounts.

People shouldnt be pulling racist shit for any reason, its especially twatish when its anonymous.

I think one of the mods or admins just turned on the "by which member" feature because I know there were no names next to the rep that was left and now it has it. I don't think the rep system should be removed completely, it just needs some fine tuning. It is very helpful if you are looking at a forum where you might be looking for answers such as drug testing, medicine, or cultivating. If the person has a few green boxes then you can take it that chances are good their info is solid. The rep also helps let you see what other people think about you. Do you ever post something and you are too stoned and you wonder if you shouldn't have posted that? Or you can see if people like what you are saying. I know this site isn't about censorship but if this doesn't work (showing who left rep) then by removing the negative rep they really aren't censoring. Consider it more like asshole prevention. You know, if you don't have something nice to say about someone then don't say anything at all so that is what that would do.

Please leave the rep system in play, just tweak it a little!

Glad it leaves the names now. Yeah it says who left the comments now, but I'm not sore over it. It's way old and not even worth making a big deal out of. But who ever updated it, thanks alot! :thumbsup:

I don't think it's necessary LIP :p. I want them to be exposed just as much as you do but it's not worth it man. Sometimes you gotta be the bigger person. Besides only one racist comment is showing because the ones before that doesn't show as my "latest reputation received".

Look on the far left of the thread toolbar which happens to be about 2 inches above your avatar right now. As soon as you click it it shows the rep.

I just got a neg and I know who left it without seeing,sometimes it is obvious to figure out who left it...

if the names were shown for negative feed back then people would get pissed off they got it. Then give the person -feedback and it would start stupid feedback wars.

No see that is the deterrent. If the first person left negative feedback when it really wasn't warranted, they know that there is a good possibility they would get it back. Usually if a post is so bad that it deserves neg rep, there is a good chance they will receive it from more than one member. On another board I saw this guy get it from about 5 people on one post. He didn't retaliate either because he knew he was wrong and it would make it worse. The retaliation is the deterrent and so the name should be shown. It is like nuclear weapons. No one uses them because they will get nuked back. There is no need for mods to investigate negative rep. That sounds like a bunch of time consuming red tape. Now that would be censorship.

Other boards that use neg rep with the name shown really don't have a problem with neg rep much less a lot of neg rep usage.
