since last harvest i have been thinking about how im going to improve 07 growing season. I plan on taking clones of K2, Neville Haze Hy....and maybe some others i have laying around. I also figured why have a bunch of plants to take care of when i could have only a couple really big plants, so my question is what is the best way to achieve atleast a pound a plant outdoors. I live in Texas so i have about 8 months of outdoor season.
Start the plants now indoors. Transplant after last frost(like march 1st in tx lol) straight into the ground. Prepare the soil now, like go dig it up and mix in all the good ammendments and fertilizer you plan on using. You can even mix some of that gel stuff that absorbs water that is designed to be mixed in soil to water house plants slowly to help keep some moisture since it doesn't rain a lot in tx. Post some pics. And most importantly, don't tell anyone where it is. :stoned:

although there is no sure-fire way, there are a few principles
dig the holes not only deeep but WIDE.. wider holes = wider root system=wider stem and of course, stronger bigger buds. sun is also a big factor, as you live in texas this shouldn't be a huge problem, but you may want to consider high temps and drought, and it might be smart to mulch your soil or have some undergrowth around your hole to keep it from drying out too much in the texas sun (im from ny but i can imagine it gets a bit hot and dry eh?) another big thing is nitrogen content of the soil which can be achieved by commercial additives or compost, compost of course being cheaper. you should also look into organic ferts, theyre not all that expensive esp. if youre only using it on a couple plants. i like foxfarm brand but that's just my opinion. sorry for rambling but hope this helps! :thumbsup:
Look up the instructions for planting shrubs.. how people make like a little basin around the eventual drip line of the plant, and then put mulch lightly in the basin.. every time it rains the water is trapped there and ONLY infiltrates to your root area instead of running off.Quote:

Doobage-Im thinking ill probably dig the holes 2.5-3.5feet deep and 5 feed wide, sheesh that’s going to be a disaster on my bad back(put a nice big crack in a vertabrate not to long ago) and yes in texas all the soil is dry and dead in the summer, would burlap sacks keep some moisture in?……I also use fox farm but im thinking about switching to all organics, if my wallet is fat enough. Thanks for the input
Stinkyattick- I never thought about doing that but I know I have seen it around all the nice houses, thank you ill have to try this.

awsome thanks for the link, yea we got our first encounter with cold weather today, yesterday was about 80 degrees F, and this morning it was about 32-40F. Crazy texas weather
Your going to have to train your plants. I recommend LSTing. You'll get massive yeilds using this techique along with what others have said. Personally I think you'll have to upgrade your genetics as well. Neither one of the strains you listed are heavy yeilders. Go for some Chronic or Bubblegum from Serious Seeds. You'll have to have mix up all the right things now to get the soil teeming with all the good nutrients and microbes. Also look into Advanced Nutrients organic line to get the most out of your plants.

Actually you'll do better with a evenly split cross of sativa and indica. Indicas are what really pack on wait and thick colas.
kusk07, i agree with you, the genetics i have planned right now are lacking, i tried twice to order from a (well know) seed bank, once with custom siezure letter and the second just never came....so i figured i will just try with the girls i have now and hope for the best., and i also did plan on low stress training and topping a few.
kindprincess-if i ever get a 'super big 15 ft. sativa' ill be sure to remeber and take a picture for ya;)

Yes, go for the sativa. We have the growing season to do it properly. But yeah, it was like 80 yesterday here too, then i woke up to ice on my steps.
if you are using clones you might not want to put them outdoors as early as march you would probably be better off waiting till mid april as the dark hours in march might actually be long enough to confuse the plant into starting flowering and then have to reveg as the dark hours decrease, wich actually slows its growth as it reverts back to a veg state.
might take clones around late feb to early march and veg indoors for a month then move them outdoors while you could start earlier if you wish but dont think it would help your plants to yield much more, think genetics and growing conditions will play a more improtant role in yield per plant.
Haha, yeah, i forgot about light cycle. I was just thinking off temperature, down here it gets warm early. Yeah, something like the spring equinox or something is when farmers plant by or something. Thanks for that bejay :thumbsup:Quote:

Growing a pure sativa will more than likely not achieve the yeild he is looking for like phillykid described. He'll need a balanced hybrid, maybe a little more on the sativa side but will definitely need those indica genetics in there to make that 1lb mark easily achievable.
Glad to know where on the same page keeko. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Like I said earilier Chronic and Bubblegum from Serious are known to be very heavy yeildiers. Chronic has been named commercial plant of the year for a couple times now. Some classic heavy outdoor yeildiers are Skunk #1 and Durban Poison x Skunk #1. Some other good choices would be, Martian Mean Green and Recon from DNA. Guerillas Gusto from Sensi Seed would be another good bet. And Subcool/ TGA's Big foot or Space Queen F2's which are freebies if you order the Big Foot. Best of luck

One more thing, concentrate on digging your holes deeper than wider. Just like in indoors, we don't use container that are shallow and wide, we use deep containers that are semi-wide e.g. the popular 5 gallon bucket. This is because cannabis roots first grow down to the bottom to test there boundries and then grow out to the sides.
I have seen 1 lb Sativa's grown in 100 L bags, but these were in the tropics & was only 7' tall. I myself have grown a 1 lb. plant{bagseed indica} in a 16" pot :greenthumb: When ya dig yer holes, throw in LOTS of shit.....horse shit,[ I imagine there's lots of this in Texas], cowshit, chicken shit & lots of GOOD compost. I don't think they need to be 5' across, maybe 3' X 3' would be better for your back....good luck m8 :greenthumb:
I didn't say it wasn't possible I just said it was easier to use hybrids. Make sure you use composed manure, not fresh manure. The reason I'm posting again is because I forgot one killer outdoor strain, Kali Mist. This will be your best bet I think. My .02 cents.

yea i really want to buy some, i just dont want to risk not getting it and not being able to get a refund.....but thats just a problem must of us have to face if we want good seeds here in the US....hopefully i will be taking a trip to Amsterdam this spring break so i can buy seeds in person.
