I have 4 CFLs for the time being, about 500 watts total. 2 2700K, and 2 5100K. I have about 8,000 lumens to work with.
I have a possible grow cab - measurements are 14.75DX27wX27T.
What do you guys think I could work out with a simple small - beginner setup like this?
500w and only 8000 lumens doesn't seen right at all, unless they are equiv. to 500w incandescent. to answer you question though, sure put it together, but as soon as you start seeing the growth, you'll get addicted and start thinking for more and more ways to improve, also just keep reading everyone elses grows there is a lot of info throughout this site.
(1) 150 watt 5500K CFL 2600L
(1) 200 watt 3000K CFL 2700L
(1) 60 watt 4100K CFL 800L
(1) 120 watt 3000K CFL 1500L
(Gonna get a couple more, this is what I have now though ~530)
What about my potential room, think it has any well.. potential?
Oh btw, I picked up a 150Watt HPS today, gotta convert it here soon.
you don't go by the high wattage on the package you go by the low 1. example: 150watt=about 42watts. the high wattage number means nothing it is just for comparison to incandescents.
use the 150hps along with the cfls. i had a 150hps + 164 watts of cfls in a scrog cab. and i yeilded 5-5 1/2 oz regularly.
you should be good on CFLs, i think it has much potential
go get some mylar from a sporting good store (its packaged as an emergency space blanket usually)
save the HPS for flowering and i would only grow 1-2 plants depending on how big the setup is.
oh and get a camera :thumbsup:

total 208W / 12800L in my 2' x 3' grow space in the closet. These lights are about 1" above the plant tops. At bud time I add 2 ea. 42W CFT 2700K 2660L for a total of 290W / 18120L.
These are all screw in "twisters" avail from Home Depot, Lowe's. Save-On, etc.

that's because the wattages posted are all wrong. where it says 150wat i'm sure it means 42watts, you see what i mean. what's your yeild with all those cfls? i had a 354watt cfl grow that yeilded about 4 1/2 oz continually. just curious what others are yeilding with cfl grows, i could only get 1/3 gram/watt or a bit more with them and i have no prob getting 1gm/watt with the hps bulbs.Quote:

I ended up with 2.75 Sq ft of grow area. I realize I used the wrong wattages, sorry.
Ill end up with somthing like 21,000 lumens with both lights.

no prob, i knew what you meant. it can get confusing sometimes when figuring out how many for a space. they shouldn't even put the high 1 on the package. my cfl cab was 4sqft, with a space that small or smaller, especially with cfl's, scrog is your best option. realisticly you could yeild almost 5oz in 2 sqft with some practice. Did you LST to get all your nodes headed north, then train them to the chicken wire, or grow them normal and train them to the chicken wire??

yes i started topping/ lst right from the start with clones or at about the 4th node with seed plants. i also used wire with only 1inch holes to be able to train the plants more precisely. the thread i linked above shows everything i did and used from start to finish although the pics don't start till early flower. good luck
Hey guys, I',m kinda rethinking this whole thing... I have seeds that are germed so it needs to be fairly quick... Should I use a wider-shorted cab, or a narrower-taller cab? I gotta get somthing set up pretty quick here or my germed seeds are gonna hate me, lol.
Just so you know a 400 watt HPS puts out 40,000-52,000 lumens depending on the bulb....thats the way to go

Agreed. If I had a grow ROOM instead of a grow CLOSET, I'd defo go w/a 400W HPS. But instead I have ~250W of CFT flouro for about 18000L covering about 2 ft². Total cost for my closet to date has been $5 for mylar gift wrap & $7 on my first CFT way back when. (new bulbs are "donations" [I have a stoner buddy at Home Depot that I try not to abuse], fixtures are salvage) But at cost, bulbs woulda been ~$90.- + tax. It's $12.95 for either a single 42W 2700K or a 2-pack of 27W 6500K. About the same as a 90W HPS security light. (at Home Depot)Quote:

And going cheep on lighting will give you cheep results. the only advice i can give is get the most lumens you can with what ever you choose to use. everything else is pretty much covered in here.
