Hey guys an gals.
Ok, here's the story.
I'm 21, male,a smoker ranging between 10-20 a day, 5'8" and weighing roughly 16 stone. (Been about 2 weeks since I weighed myself).
I used to go to the cafe all the time for lunch, but have not been for nearly 2 months and plan to keep it that way.I work 9 hours a day 5 days a week in retail so I'm almost constantly moving around and am standing/walking for 8 hours a day minimum. I walk WELL over 10000 steps a day, I used a counter for 2 days and was between 12-14000 steps for both days.I walk to and from work at least once a week (a mile and a half each way).
Lately my appetite has been decreasing, for example, today at 10am I had a quater pounder with cheese because I felt hungry (I started work at 6 so it was basically my "lunch time") and that is ALL I have had today and I have only just started feeling hungry at 4am and yesterday was exactly the same. I'll admit that I drink quite a bit of coke, I've probably had 2 litres today, but even going by calorie counters, I've had around 1200-1500 calories when the average for a male is 2500 calories.
After work I don't usually work out or anything, but I do some general housework be it vaccuming / loading washing machine etc. From time to time I will work out for around 30 minutes doing sit-up's/ press ups.
Munchies would be the obvious problem, except I no longer get them when I puff so that can't be the reason.
What can I do? :confused: :(

By the way, I'm not starving my body, I know that if you do that, you don't lose any weight because your body think's there is a shortage of food so instead of losing fat, you lose muscle first. I eat when I feel hungry, thing is, I just don't feel as hungry as I used.

As for what you said about not eating, you don't lose weight because the body starts to store away the fat. That's why you have to keep a good balance between eating and working out.
And holy shit, I eat so much less than 2500 calories a day...

Balance is the key, steer clear of the greaseburgers, get the most nutrition per fat gram that you can, lean meats, easy on the grain products(contrary to popular belief, you NEED carbs) Everything in moderation, and the more active you are, the faster your metabolism gets.

The most widely used drug in america - caffeine - messes with your body somehow. I think there was a study done of a women who didn't drink and a women that did but diet and the women that stopped drinking pop lost more weight.

well im a wrestler for my school so im pretty much experienced with weight controll.
first off STOP dinking coke, if you have to drink pop or soda drink only the clear kinds, such as sprite. water will help you lose weight if you drink it because it breaks down all the fatty material you eat into energy to burn. but starvation is usaully the route i take if i need to lose 3 or 4 pounds, its not a healthy way to lose weight but it works.
exercise as much as possible, try to break a good sweat everyday. walk, jog, or run early in the morning for about 30 minutes.
so basicly eating less, trying to keep a healthy diet, and exercising more would do the trick

Eat little and often. Eating at regular intervals keeps your metabolism ticking over more efficiantly. Always have breakfast, aim to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, more if you can manage it. Cut down or cut out caffeine as causes fluid retention and it does mess with your appetite. Drink 4 pints of water a day ~ hot water with lemon as soon as you wake up.
Most takeaway foods including sandwiches and bagels are loaded with unneccessary calories. Make your own lunch and bring it with you. It's just a matter of getting into a routine and sticking to it.

starvation aint the way to go to lose weight thats just idiotic and unhealthy ffs and will leave you drained of energy at work,eat when you feel hungry and yeah forget the cheeseburgers and shit and try some healthy stuff like a cold meat salad,things like baked potatos,corn on the cob and shits gotta be good its veg!!a few portions of fruit a day is always a good thing also.
Do a bit of research on the net mole2k4 and find yourself a good daily eating schedule and try stickin to it for a month atleast and see how you get on.
Respect to you for deciding to get the head together and do something to lose some weight as i have a friend maybe a few inches taller than yourself at around 18 stone and he always complains to us (his best m8`s)about how much he hates bein overweight but he doesnt bother his arse doin anything about it,damn me and 1 of the lads actually started going to the steam rooms,sauna and swimming baths every monday thinkin we would be able to get him to come along after tellin him how good you feel after the saunas but for some reason he would always have plans on a monday night to get out of going with us!i suppose the thought of bearing his flesh at the swimming baths was a daunting task for him but hell you gotta start somewhere and dont give a shit wot no man thinks of you.
id advise getting yourself 1 of those bars you can clip under your room door for doing some sit ups as this will tone your stomach muscles for when you start losing the pounds.

i dont really have a problem as im 6'2" androughly 153 lbs (a pound or two off the mark) and ive been told i need to gain weight, but i dont drink pop and i try and stay away from sweets as much as possible, i work out usually3 or 4 times a week, u just need to able to burn wat u eat, fat is almost irrelevant, u gain weight if u consume more kalories than ur body can burn, so eat more low cal stuff and only eat wen ur hungry,

I thought it was cheesy at first, but after having my baby a couple months ago, I was ready to try anything to shed those extra pounds and get some energy back. I recently started taking herbalife and I have so much more energy. And you can lose SO much weight. It makes you feel better and want to eat healthier. I take two shakes a day, which are pretty tasty, along with vitamins they supply, and a meal for dinner. The nice thing is, you can still eat what you want, just try to have smaller portions. Plus you can add things to your shakes, like fruit, yogut etc. And I dont even really work out, other than running around with my baby, and doing housework. Soon I will be selling herbalife, as soon as I have lost enough weight to prove how well it works. But I highly recommend it, as its also a great business opportunity!

i have tried to many crash diets. they work for a min, but not to long. I found the only thing that really works is diet and exercise. Start with a 1500 cal a day diet, and try to get as much exercise as u can. dont eat after 5 pm. It also helps if u eat small amounts alil more ofter instead of three big meals. It sounds like a lot of stuff to do, but after a few weeks it will just become routine. I lost all the weight i needed to in only a few months just by following these few things. Now im where i want to be and I can increase my cal in take to about 1800 to stay the same weight. For some of us this is always goin to be a struggle, but if u follow a diet plan that works for u and stick with the exercising u will see a huge difference and feel so much better. Take it from me i have 5 kids in 4 years so i had alot of baby weight to lose. Now its all gone i look great and feel great. I dont even miss all that junk food now. I like being able to go to the store and get what i want. So the lil sacrfices i made were well worth it. Good luck sweety!!;)

Like most ppl have said, moderation, and movement. I'm also big on vitamins because they help me with energy. The munchies are the biggest problem I face, personally, but I chew a lot of gum. I also have to agree with Euphoric about going meatless but too much too soon will be overwelming, so stick with cutting down your portions and you HAVE to excercise. Really watch what you eat. Have you ever written everything down that you eat in a day? I know that sounds like a homework assignment but do it and you'll be amazed by all of the extra stuff you consume that your body just does not need.
Later on, when you have more control over yourself, you can decide if veggy life is for you. Lots of luck and keep us posted. If you feel comfortable with it, you should post your progress here and we'll keep on your ass to help you succeed. :)

Hi
Cut the coke,whole milk,sugur,and any carbs. Work out as much as you can,,wen down the gym you need to be sweating as much as possible so loads of light weights and do as many reps as poss.. plus try work out in a jumper/pull over, then wen finnished your work out go for a very hot sauna.

To those who said water, I agree completely. Drinking plenty of water is very, very good for the body. Of course that in itself won't help you lose weight, but it is still very healthy.

hi mole 2K4. Sorry about that first response. I went camping May 1st 2005 because I was tired of carrying around 50 extra pounds. By July I got rid of all of it plus. I drank water every day, I got 24/7 fresh air and there was always something to walk and walk and walk to and it was very much like totally free. No walls, no tv, no toilet...but heck it worked! Camping primative style is best. We huminz tend to get spoiled easy. Hope you had success in the weight loss endeavor. I've been back indoors since December of 2005 and it has slowly been returning...you know, that three letter f word. So, I've been using Creatine for muscle food, oatmeal every morning, fix it up with trail mix and other fun nibbles and above all, drink water. Sometimes plain water gets boring, so beef it up with nutritional dry juice. I found a dry nutritional juice and my finger nails grew like a vampire. I was in a sand storm in my car and didn't break one nail.

hi Mole2K4. Was browsing through and noticed what a crummy response I gave to your weightloss concern. Here's my personal solution. I went camping May 1st of 2005. I got tired of lugging 50 pounds of excess and decided nothing was going to work (off the counter) but good old fashioned camping might be the answer. It was. I dropped the 50 and then a few more. I believe in vitamins for the energy and supplement from uninformed eating, and drink Creatine to feed my muscles,,the only downside about Creatine is you must drink at least 64 oz of water daily and never stop drinking it once you've become accustomed to it. I eat oatmeal every day because it brings the cholesteral down, and I put nifty nibbles such as trail mixes into it because oatmeal is bla and needs things. Oh, and the camping helped because I was too busy exploring to jonz for tv, movies and other woozee indoor activities. I've been back indoors since December 2005 and it's December 2006 for one more day, and the excess is slowly, and sneakily returning. Falling into bad habits again. i just drink oceanspray lite pink grapefruit juice for bfast in the morning, and drink tons of water during the process, then a spinach salad for lunch then more grapefruit juice in the early pm.....then i eat something decent for supper but eat by 7pm......

As a woman who once weighed 236 (when I stopped weighing myself) and is now down to 175, I feel I have a bit more expertise in this department than most of the stoners here! I went on Atkins and it worked, but I cut down on the fats since I felt that level of fats would be unhealthy. I have slowly gotten off of Atkins, although it was a good start. I eat moderate amounts of old fashioned oatmeal (NOT instant!), 100% whole grain bread and other whole grain foods. I avoid fats, refined foods and high sugar foods.
Remember that for thousands of years humans lived quite differently than we do now. Meat was FAR leaner- there were no wild cows wandering around some ancient feed lot with 29% of their body weight as fat! That is what cheap burger is...29% fat, almost 1/3 FAT. A wild animal will have only a small amount of fat, unlike our bloated beef cattle. Sugars were a rare treat. Fresh fruits were our sweets. Refined foods? Nope! Whole grains. Veggies were often raw or baked without fats.
Imagine you as a primitive hunter/gatherer. You wake up, do your morning routine and set off to check your snares (snares provided far more food than hunting big game in early societies). So, you are in luck, there is a rabbit for you to share with the others. You dig up some wild yams (yams are big in many cultures- high in vitamin A, helps prevent zits), grab a few other veggies, and cook a breakfast. A little lean meat and a lot of veggies. 80% of the food produced by nomadic African tribes (like the Ku'ng) retaining a traditional way of life is gathered food, not hunted food. Almost all of the gathered food is vegetable- nuts, roots, leaves, and fruits. Base your diet on that sort of thinking. As an example, I eat a lot of roasted-in-the-shell, no salt, peanuts- lots of fiber and protein. It is basically like eating beans (but tastier). Bagged peanuts and most peanut butters, I won't touch. Too much added sugar, salt and oil! Avoid refined foods (this will mean packing your own lunch). Think, could I get this off the African plains? My usual lunch is some of those peanuts, fresh fruit and some green tea. Because it takes time to eat the peanuts and fruit, my stomach has time to realize it is full. When you gobble down a burger and fries, you eat too fast and your stomach doesn't have time to react and say "enough already"!
And about those sodas! Read the label! How many grams of sugar are in your soda? 28 grams = one ounce. Just how much pure, refined sugar are you drinking each day? Did you know cokes are as acidic as VINEGAR? The sugar masks it. (Think what that sugar and acid will do to your teeth!) Drink tea sweetened with stevia (a natural sweetener with a few health benefits). I always have at least 5 types of tea around so I don't get bored with the flavor- try some fruit flavored teas or double bergamot Earl Gray tea. Tea, incidentally, has natural flouride in it to help protect your teeth. It also has a fair number of other health benefits. Do a little research on it!
You don't need to go overboard on dieting (by reducing your food intake drastically), just think hunter/gatherer! More raw foods, more whole foods. Less refined food, especially those cooked in oils and/or salted or sugared to extremes. As a general rule, if it's white, don't eat it! Good luck in your quest for a better you! - Granny:stoned:

Anyways, diet and exercise go hand in hand when losing weight and maintaining it the healthy way. If diet is bothering you, trust me, like people here have said, it all becomes routine. When you start to watch what you eat, and when you exercise, you really lose a big chunk of that munchie appetite. For example, I used to drink coke, at least 24 oz a day. After I lost a good amount of weight and started eating well (drank almost just water), I didn't crave coke at all. There's a lot of junk type food I used to love, now I don't really give a shit if it doesn't exist, I never really want it. I never think about it anymore, it's really amazing. I used to look forward to desert after any meal, now I don't have desert at all, and it doesn't bother me.
So, if you're cringing after reading this, trust me, it's not like you take it away from yourself like that, it's just, after time, you don't have a desire for it and you stop getting it. If that's hard to look at, here's the upside: Cooking. Cooking is NOT hard despite what some people may say. It's fun. It really allows you to be creative. When you shop for groceries, you start really thinking what you need to buy to make whatever. I spend the most time shopping in the produce section, there's so much there, you can make so many different healthy meals from it.
Cooking, if you've never really done it before, can be intimidating at first. But just start off small and simple. Gradually try out different things, step it up every now and then, here and there. Be healthy with it, and be creative. You want a good tip? Take prepackaged type meal items as ideas. If you know you like something, like say a box of bean and rice mix, then try making it from scratch. Try adding vegetables that will compliment other parts of the meal. Screw around with it. It's good practice and you'll get the hang of it eventually. A lot of people really give up on the diet part too easily because everything the eat is so bland. Use this as an opportunity to cook, or learn to if you haven't, and you can make meals that you really look forward to.

Start taking Marshal Arts. I recommend almost any form of Kung Fu.
Start slowly maybe 3 times a week then up it to 4 times or more a week.
The first few weeks will bust your ass. But after you make it for a mouth or so you will look forward to the workout.
Then eat whatever you want when ever you want. You will loose wait and look great. I am 40 years old and weigh 145 pounds. No trace of fat. I eat whatever I want.
