Hi, we all know pot is legal in Amsterdam, does anyone know where else it is legal? I would like to go live someplace tropical for a couple months this winter and would like a legal experience :-) I was looking at Goa India which I figure is at least lenient... But I would like more travel options if possible.

Umm, I think you're pretty much limited to the Netherlands and Antarctica, and few other places only if you have a valid medical condition. As far as I know, the only places where it is well tolerated are Canada, parts of western Europe, some Latin American and Caribbean countries (Colombia, Peru, Jamaica, etc. although I'm not 100% sure about those examples) and a little town in Australia called Nimbin.
I went to Peru 8 years ago and say a BIG MJ plant on the side of the road growing just out side of the city. At least I thought that was what is was I was only 14 and had never really seen one before, though I had smoked.
Switzerland. Not exactly tropical, but pretty good shit, easy for foreigners to get, just the shops are lower key.
Its not legal, but tolerated in Canada, which someone already mentioned. But Canada kicks ass, you can smoke in a couple coffee shops, which also sell pipes and things. And in almost any park you can find someone selling. Id suggest Vancouver BC.. good times

Jesus, pot is ILLEGAL EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD.
Just because it is tolerated by the police in holland and a blind eye is turned does not mean suddenly its legal, you can still be arrested and prosecuted for it, be it selling, having just bought or smoking it, just the chances are extremely low because of the facts that:
Large amounts of people do it, can they arrest everyone? no.
Large amounts of revenue are generated through it, be they via tourism, taxes on shops and all the other ways governments make money.
There are loads more reasons, but its 2:30am and I'm too lazy to think of them.
In answer to your question, there is nowhere "legal" for you to smoke weed, although prosecution in holland is very unlikely, switzerland your about 60% safe seeing as the german and swiss police don't really care, but the french do.
England is also a reasonably safe place, I live here and grow/smoke/buy and have never been busted, probably because I'm careful but even people I know who have usually just get a finger wag and the smoke gets confiscated.
In Montreal, it ain't legal but it's somewhat tolerated. My friend and I often go downtown and smoke a joint walking around downtown, and we never had a problem. It's great!
I always thought weed was "legal"^^ in Portugal!
Anyway it's very tolerated where I live. The worst I have to deal with are faggots in my classes asking me if I'm high (which I very very often am).

Just for clarification on european countries and everything I've wrote a list here which I obtained for "weed world" a magazine on cannabis ( suprising enough ) which was taken from their legal department.
Austria: Max jail times of 6 months for a reasonable amount of cannabis for personal use, first timers with small amounts are usually just warned and it's confiscated, suspended sentences are offered for repeat offenders willing to go to rehab.
Belgium: Personal use + the growing thereof are unlikely to be punished but selling is still not tolerated and can carry jail time of a few years.
Bulgaria: Anyone found in possession of weed (any amount) can be sentenced to 3-15 years depending on the quantity, although addicts will not be imprisoned providing you can "prove" it was for personal use. (going back to quantity)
Cyprus: Any amount can result in jail times although due to recent amendments a maximum of 2 plants or 30g of cannabis usually results in a fine / warning and young people are usually given large amounts of leway.
Czech Republic: Possesion of ANY drug was legal for personal use until jan 1999, all drugs are now illegal, possesion of 20 joints or less is usually unpunished, however, 20 joints in the C.R is different as 20 joints refer to 20 joints with only 1.5% THC in, seeing as most modern day plants create 10% thc or higher (skunk usually has above 18% THC).
Denmark: First time possession usually results in a warning, further offenses usually recieve large fines and large quantities for personal use can mean up to 2 years in jail, if your arrested for intent to supply you can be arrested for 6 years.
Estonia: For personal use and a clean record a fine/ 30 days in jail is usually issued, further arrest's, even for personal use, can recieve sentences up to 7 years.
Finland: Possession is punishable by a fine / a maximum of 6 months jail time for personal use. Repeated arrest's can mean jail for 2 years, and even more arrests/ supply can mean up to 10 years!
France: No specific guidelines are made for differentiating between personal use and supplying although a single joint could mean up to a year in jail.
Germany: Small amounts for personal use are usually confiscated and a warning may be issued although it is gradually becoming accepted and a blind eye is often turned.
Greece: Depending on the amount and circumstances jail can be from 10 days to 5 years, some first timers have been lucky although its not very likely,(unofficially though if your a brit your going to be pretty fucked because of the whole Ibiza thing.)
Ireland: Small quantites are very unlikely to get you arrested although if suspected of supplying you can be jailed for a year and recieve a fine. Fines are usually issued the first 2 times, although a third time can get you up to 3 years in the slammer.
Italy: Smoking cannabis is not illegal, although buying/selling/growing is.
(How does that work? lol) If caught in possesion though, you will taken for a "talk", repeated offences lead to repeated talks and therapy with professional therapist's is often enforced, constant offences can result in confiscation of driving licence and passport not to mention house arrest.
Latvia: Drug use is illegal although with government permission ( AKA a medical prescription for the drug ) you are allowed the use of any drug. Without a prescription? A fine of a $130 and 2 weeks jail time, more than personal use, will raise both the fine and jail time.
Luxembourg: Cannabis possesion is no longer a criminal offence, but it still is a civil offence, therefore you won't get busted but a fine will be issued ranging from 250 euro's to 2,500 euros! Obviously growing / dealing is a criminal offence still.
Malta: Personal use can lead to a maximum of one year jail time and/or fines, anything more than personal use is going to lead to a LONG jail time with the average time being 10 years.
Netherlands (Holland): Cannabis use is tolerated but possession of more than 5 grams can lead to prosecution (99 times out of 100 they won't bother)
Norway: Small amounts usually means a fine and/or six months in jail.
Poland: Simple possesion usually recieves a fine although you can be completely deprived of your liberty for a year.
Portugal: Use of cannabis is legal since July 2001 (top marks to IntrepidS :D) although you can still be fined,anything more than half an ounce will be considered as trafficking and is subject to jail time. Cultivation is still illegal.
Russia: Some police arrest, and some don't although if arrested,bud over 20 grams or hash over 5 grams can lead to jail time for possession, although, seeing as the russian government is pleased to say at least 2-300,000 people are currently doing time, jail is a likely conviction.
Slovakia: Any amount is a punishable offence, even one joint can lead to three years in jail and it rises steadily if arrested for trafficking.
Spain: Use and possession of any drug is not considered a criminal offence, although cultivation/supplying can range from 1-9 years in jail.
Sweden: Although publically its more lenient towards it now that it was, one joint can lead to a year in jail although a large fine is usually the punishment.
Switzerland: For a few years the attitude towards cannabis was pretty much the same as holland, although thats all changed now and police are clamping down, as I said earlier, swiss,german and italian police are a lot more forgiving than the french.

UK: Selling,possesion,cultivation etc is illegal and it is down to the officers discretion be it a caution / more. Possesion can face a maximum of 2 years although warnings are usually issued the first couple of times.Repeated offences will lead to a record and fines and/or jail.

Sorry for adding this, but to be honest. It's illegal everywhere except spain and portugal, you may be allowed to smoke it but your not allowed to buy,sell or grow.
So, technically, you HAVE to do one of those things to get your hands on some bud so in my opinion you can still be busted in spain and portugal for possession.
you forgot jamaca, a carribean country in which you claim is mostly anti-pot, yet pot is as big of a part of their culture as beaches. it is illegal just so large countrys wont create trade embargo's against them due to different oppinions in policy. jamaca grows and smokes weed openly and the poliece dont bother to even warn the people

Basically maybe in Jamaica, and Jamaica alone, there is no punishment for cannabis,
I did however give a perfect example of legal action happening inside of the carribean with the seizure of a yacht on the cayman islands, which are based inside of the carribean.
I was merely giving an image of the carribean as a whole, that it is illegal even there, and it is punished, even if it is a rare occurance.
they caymon islands cant be compared to the rest of the carribean, they caymon islands have bank laws similar to those of the swiss, in which all information is disclosed. no one but the holder can alter or view the account. because of this alot of drug money from countries like colombia and all over the world is stored there. if they didnt have extremley strict laws on weed and other drugs, their country would be a safe haven for all drug lords. to prevent this from happening they make it illegal and try to protect the countries people, and their repuarte meaning they dont want to look bad and they want to be a succeding country not one suppressed in drugs and other immoral doings
