i just got some clones
and two like hydro tubs
with the little orange balls everywhere
and water is constantly going on them
well
where do i put in the nutriennts
how much nutrients do i put in

Orange balls? Photo pls, what type of nute do you have? You need PH meter to read the PH
read the instructions on the nutrient bottle and put the nutrient in the water tank, if there are no instructions on the lable just search for the on google.com. the water temperature should be 24 celsius or 75 Fahrenheit, use a fish tank heater. replace the water tank with new water and nutrient efter 10 days
btw you test the ph in the water, should be 6.8
I have to disagree with the two above posts. 75 is the highest you want your water temps to go, anything above that and you are risking bacteria. Also, ideal pH for hydro is 5.8, not 6.8. I believe the orange balls he's talking about is hydroton.
Follow directions on the nute bottle, if its the first time giving them nutes, use 1/4 strength to see how they react (so you don't get nute burn). Let them mix in your buckets for about 30 mins to an hour before you start adding pH up. I usually like to get mine to 5.6 and let it drift to 6.0 (giving me an average pH of 5.8). If you don't have one already, a pH pen is necessary, and a EC/TDS pen is highly recommended. Check out Hanna and Milwaukee for those.
Dude anything about 72 degrees and your going to have algae and possibly root rot. Ideally you want a constant 68. If your not using RO (reverse osmosis; read 4ppm instead of 150-300 of tap water) then you are even more at risk for algae. Bacteria sucks. Summer water can be the worst.
pH of 5.8 almost always. Make sure you test this often, especially if your water comes out high. pH down will only work for so long. Check your pH AFTER you put in your nutrients. Check it another 30 minutes afterwords to doublecheck. Do this until your confident in how much the pH changes in those 30 minutes (sometimes none, sometimes .3 points!).
hydro is not the best beginner growing project in my opinion. A lot more things can go wrong. PS. The clay balls are called Hydroton. They are made out of kilned clay, thats what the roots grow onto and around and what they hold onto. They are very good at displacing water.
racerx is correct in all aspects but i belive with the right knowledge and know how hyrdo is easier then soil. I never touched soild and my first attempt was very successful, but i did extensive research on the web and i knew exactly what i needed to do before i even started. the most common mistake in newbs grwing hyro is not reading enough. or not reading at all.
Same hear, i did over 2 monthes of resarch befor i even bought anything, i hate stupid kids and noobs that come around like "yo dude teach me how to grow some Fukin pot dawg like i got some dirt from the yard and some crappy bag seeds im gonna grow some hydro doode"Quote:

No EC/PPM meters, no work at all really, except mixing some nutes into some water and pouring them into the pots every few days. I don't need a faucet handy either (good thing too, because there isn't any running water on this floor).
And sometimes, with hydro, things outside your control can just crush your spirit. I have a friend who decided that 'hydro was cool' (and thought it produced higher quality smoke too, which it does not) and decided to start growing early this year. He screwed up his nutes once (basically misread instructions while stoned), and killed off a crop. Then another time a pump failed, and that trashed another crop. His lighting was better than mine throughout most of the year, and yet I have out-yielded him this year by a HUGE margin, because I haven't had any crop-destroying problems.
Crop-destroying problems are the next closest thing to impossible with soil. You MIGHT kill one plant (though I never have), but unless it's an act of God, you should not lose every plant. Even when it IS an act of God (I went 72 hours without electricity over this past summer due to a regional power outage), then the plants still might survive - I had three plants flowering then, and all lived, didn't even go hermie on me despite no light or ventilation and 99 degree temps for 3 days right smack in the middle of flowering.
Soil is way underrated!
Soil for a biggener is just as hard, uve been doing it for a while just like any one growin dro for a while has no problem. you can experience all the same problems from soil to hydro and i belive that it is easier to correct those in hydro. If you kill off a crop because of nutes your a moron, and right there he misread the instructions. And the point is that if you do what your supposed to do hydro is very easy. Check ph and ppm, takes 1 min. Change res every 2 weeks, takes 5min. read a friggen book its so easy. I experence some nute problems my first time around but i still had killer bud. My pump broke one day and they survived. If your plants die over night in hydro u did something seriously wrong. DOnt drown the roots. the only difference between soil and hydro is u use water instead of soil. there really is no difference. the plant consumption is just different. i have never killed a plant in hydro..... honestly if you are informed on hydro u will be successful, ppl just think there is so much more to it becuase its different and involves mechanics. When u germinate your seeds and want to gro hydro, then come on here asking what to do next.... your fucked, and what do you expect ppl to just give you answers, there are in depth dvds on how to grow dro like growing with mr green is really good, watch one and u will see how easy it is. So many books on it, not even related to marijuana.
just because you dont know how to do it, doesnt mean its hard, and thats just a fact. No offense to any one in here, in my book if you have one harvest u did somethign right. I respect all growers, and to those new please just open your eyes and mind, its alot more fun/easier when u search for the information and i think you get more out of it opposed to some one just telling u to do it. You get reason and good explinations when you search and read up. One sentance answers tell you nothing, like adjust your ph to 5.8, maybe if you knew why, u would remeber to do it all the time.
i dunno strait up in soil if you over fed 6 plants, thats 6 large buckets you have to carry some where to leech the soil and it takes like 3 gals of water per bucket. its just for a noob they run into problems in both hydro and soil, i just feel in hydro you can fix any problem with in seconds.
