Some general rules for functioning in society

Well, people have been pissing me off lately, because they seem to have forgotten how to not be assholes. Here are three rules I invented for basic human interaction. You'd think they'd be well known since they're pretty common sense rules, but in reality those who follow them are few and far between.

#1) If you tell someone you can do them a favor, ACTUALLY DO IT! If you can't do it for some reason, notify them and apologize. If you're not sure in the first place whether you can actually get it done or not, be sure to qualify your sentences with words like "maybe", "perhaps" and "probably". Don't just make a promise and then not do it and not say anything about it.

#2) If you make a mess, pick it up. Yeah, even in public. Just because somebody else will eventually clean your mess up for you doesn't mean you're not still responsible for the mess. If you knock something on the ground, pick it up and put it back. If you're in a store and you decide you don't want to buy something you've picked up, put it back on the shelf where it belongs. If you break something, apologize and offer to pay for it. Somebody's going to have to deal with your mess, and there's no reason you should force that work on an innocent stranger.

#3) If you're blocking somebody's path, get out of the way. Try to be aware of where people are around you and where they're going. Since the laws of physics (specifically the electromagnetic force) prohibit our two bodies from occupying the same points in space, I can't just walk through you. That means you should move to the side and not just stand there spacing out.

That concludes our basic human decency lesson for today. Coming up next week: saying "you're welcome" instead of "yup".

i have a question about lesson # 3

i was walking down the hallway and in front of me was a lil old man
and a lil old woman.they both had walkers and were traveling tiny step by step.it took about 5 minutes to get about 10 yards.
i was stoned from break so ididnt mind the wait but some lady tried to
squeeze thru and almost knocked the old folks down

How about #4--make sure you know what you're talking about when you start saying something as truth? I.e., if you're gonna go off on somebody for doing something, make sure you know that they actually did it.

I was out of gas the other day on a busy intersection... 1'st know one stopped to let me push my truck to the curb... 2'nd they tried to run me over when I was walking to the gas station"I didn't make'''LOLz" with a red gas can in my hand... approximately 2000 people and not one offered a hand...

My rule is "Do something nice for someone" it might make you feel good...

Oh wait, I mean you're welcome. Wait, I mean thank you. Those are good rules of thumb. All but # 3. In some cases, like friendowl pointed out, some people can't help but be in the way.

I like those rules, but yes, I agree with Friendowl, some people just can't move as fast as they once were. When you're 70 or 80yrs old, I sure as hell don't want people to be rushing me. I've been walking for 80yrs dammit, give me time! :p

Other than that, yeah, the #2 rule bothers me when people litter, or make a mess somewhere, expecting someone else to do it for them.

How about rule #5: When using a public washroom, flush the damn toilet! There is nothing worse than pissing staring down at a stinky load that someone was too lazy to push the handle, for 2 bloody seconds.

If the crappers loaded, I move to the other stalls. If those are the same way, I fucking leave...

Well yeah, obviously some leeway should be given to the elderly and the disabled, but if you've got two fully functioning legs and you're in somebody's way, just move to the side. This one can apply to traffic as well. I hate when I'm trying to cross the street on my bike and some idiot is waiting at the red light stopped clear across the crosswalk. Or when somebody's waiting to pull into traffic and they're on the sidewalk. God I hate that shit.

Nice rules. I like them. The toilet flushing is also a good one. I swear, how fucking hard is it to lift your foot up and step on the handle? And if you piss on the seat, wipe it off! I worked at a movie theater for over a year, and let me tell you.. women are fucking disgusting.. ok, most are. I don't know how many times I had to clean the bathroom, only to constantly be wiping piss or blood off the seat and cleaning up after them. Sorry to be gross, but it's true.

I always try to help others when I see they're in need. In the last 6 months, I've given about 3 random people I didn't know a jump cause their battery was dead.. I didn't HAVE to, but saw that their hood was up, and they are either standing there looking helpless or talking on a cell phone trying to find someone. I always carry cables w/ me just in case. So I offer. Karma ain't gonna bite me in the ass. I would hope that someone would do the same for me if I needed assistance. :)

my homie talks like this nonstop, and im sure he knows a little of it, but i mean cmon, seriously dude. And then he tries to cover up his lies when i prove him wrong. I love fucking with him like--

yea...., i hate the fuckers who dont stop when you run out of gas, or when you break down, or when your battery is dead... my mom never picks up hitch hickers just because when we see them, there are usaly some little kids in the car... but if its just me and her, shell pick them up... if theres some one broken down on the side of the road... she will stop and help them as long as she dosent have to risk getting hit... and ive promised my self that from the day i get my drivers license, to the day that i die, i will pick up every single hitch hicker that i see, becuase in my eyes, i owe the world that much because of alll of the people that have ever givin me a ride... some only drove me a mile befor they had to turn off the road and head in a different direction... other gave me rides that were 30-40 miles long... im grateful for every one of them... and damn, some of the people i met hitch hiking were fucking cool... ive meet hippys that was smoking bud at woodstock... and i met stoners who were smoking at 2pac and snoop doggs concerts... and then ive met plenty of non smokers... but its still fun, and i think some day, im gonna leave my car with my mom or some other family, and just stick out my thumb, and see were in the hell i get... and see who else ill meet... i think it will be fun....

If it's so hard to be a decent human being go kill yourself and rid the world of another asshole and save the rest of us the trouble.A lot of people who have kids can't raise them with common decency.:)
