this dude hunts behind my family's house, he shot a doe and was bragging about him watching the doe's offspring run after her before she died...

You call what they do now days hunting? Sitting in a tree, covered with camoflage, using a high-powered rifle with a scope to blast a deer off a feeder? ..or maybe the canned hunts where they keep exotics on ranches and a guide takes some rich asshole out to shoot livestock out of a pasture?
There hasn't been any hunting in this country, nor a need to hunt in a long time. My father owned a ranch on the western slope of Colorado back in the day and fed our family all year on what he hunted. That was the closest thing I've seen to legitimate hunting in my lifetime.
Chips point was valid. Blasting a doe with a fawn just to get your rocks off is a depraved cruelty beneath contempt.

I got so many friggin' deer in my yard, I can't go out my door without bumping into the bastards ... all they're good for is eating your plants, trampling your lawn, and crapping in your driveway ... oh yeah, we even have them attacking people in California now (deer CAN and WILL kill you, antlers are razor-sharp at certain times of the year) ... they are overgrown RATS ... seriously ... :mad: except for this one, with my young son ... :D
The only hunting is Bow and arrow hunting, I know a few people who still do it. I'm not really keen on hunting but if you actually use everything you end up killing. Its no worse then feeding and fattening up live stock and slaughtering them when they are nice and plump! I could never kill a Mother deer, hell I don't think I could kill any animal.
Where I live, a guy had 3 grizzlly bears go on his property, 1 mother, and 2 cubs. when they got to his patio he peaked out of the window, and shot the 2 cubs first, and killed them, and then shot the mother bear , but she fled, and was never found! how fucked is that!! why the hell take it upon yourself tio shoot them??? and especially shooting the 2 cubs right in front of the mother, I'm suprised that mother bear didn't tear through his trailer and maul the fucker! people are so disrestectfull of wildlife, when you live close to wilderness you should respect the wild animals that were there first!!!
I dont mind hunting, even with a gun. People have been hunting forever and as long as you eat what you kill and kill within certain limits, I say hunt all you want. I hate hippies who do nothing but bitch about how killing animals is like killing another human and shit like that. Animals kill each other all the time. It's the way of life. But yeah, that guy is a dick.

I hunt, and I kill deer, and I love it! My son will soon be joining me on my hunting trips. He can hardly wait. People have been hunting for millions of years, and it won't stop. I kill, gut, skin, quarter, butcher, then eat. Death is a natural part of life, and so is hunting for food.
Laughing about the two fawns was a bit much, but they will be fine. Hunting season is in this time of year for a reason.
I have turkey, deer, big horn sheep, fish, and even a squirl mounted, all hanging nicely from a wall in my office.
What's cruel is breeding animals to butcher, and veal...thats just sad. There's nothing wrong with hunting, imo. Then again, I'm a bit of a redneck. Even so, I have more compasion than most vegans.
Leave the guy be, and if you feel the need to look down on him, then so be it. Just don't go thinking you're better just because you don't hunt. You simply have a heart for animals, and it WAS a fucked thing for him to laugh about those fawn running after their dying mother.

Exactly, here in Pittsburgh and the outer suburbs the deer popluation is insane, they have no natural predators so like Billionfold said "They breed like rabbits" and come this time of year (rut) they are everywhere. Do you realize how many more people would be killed in fatal car crashes with dear if hunting was stopped. Hunting is part of life..yes. But it's an almost sacred thing. What this asshole did wasn't hunting. He's the same kinda dipshit redneck who shoots up road signs, smashes mailboxes in the country, spraypaints 'bubba was here' on a canyon wall, and dumps his garbage off the bridge into the creek.
There's no excuse for cruelty to animals just for the power hard-on. In fact it's the first thing they look for in the psychographic profiles of serial killers and psychopaths.
