All the shit you build rules. I'm building one of these too. We got the carbon filter squares made for like an AC instead of the powder and pantyhose, everything else is the same. I'll let you know how it goes.
First thing to build is the inner chamber.
pic1 - supplies:
6"-4" reducer
4" cap
2 - 4.5" screw fasteners
10" length of Heavy duty chicken wire
2 - pannyhose legs
pic2 - Wrap the 10" length of chicken wire around the 4" end cap to form a cylinder. I used a bunch of zip ties to secure the cylinder's shape.
Pic3 - Slide the pannyhose legs over the cylinder to act as a screen for the carbon.
Pic4 - Secure the end cap on one end of the cylinder with one of the 4.5" screw fasteners.
Pic5 - Secure the 6"-4" reducer to the open end of the cylinder with the other 4.5" screw fastener.
That's it. The inner chamber is done. Set aside we'll need it in a bit.
Next to build is the Outer Chamber.
Pic1-Supplies
6" cap
2 - 6.5" screw clamps/fasteners
12" length of Heavy duty chicken wire
3 - pannyhose legs
pic2 - Wrap the 12" length of chicken wire around the 6" end cap to form a cylinder. I used a bunch of zip ties to secure the cylinder's shape.
Pic3 - Slide the pannyhose legs over the cylinder to act as a screen for the carbon.
Pic4 - Now you should have all of these parts....almost done:thumbsup:
Pic5- Now slide the 6" cylinder over the 6" section of the 6"-4" reducer (and the inner chamber) and secure with a 6.5" screw fastener
Filling with Activated carbon and finishing it.
pic1 - Without the 6" end cap on the bottom, the filter should look like this....notice this space in between the chambers....this is where the activated carbon goes.
pic2 - I used an oil spout with the end cut off to more easily disperse the carbon into the filter.
pic3 - Here is the filter filled with carbon.
pic4 - Finally put the 6" end cap on the bottom and we're good to go.
Pic5 - Here is the finally product.
Have fun kiddies...post if you have a question:thumbsup: :smokin:
Niiiceee. :)
Has my vote for another FAQ in our library.
Thanks Bodom!
i was wondering.. is the carbon air filter for vegging and flowering? or for curing bud? thanks:) :)
All three....whenever the plant starts to get noticably stinky. :smokin:Quote:

yes just for removing odors. :smokin:Quote:

Great info. I may be building one soon.
I also vote for this in the faq.
Whats the tab$ on completed can filter?
yesQuote:

No problemo...I made it from a how-to just like the one i made. Might as well pass it on...The activated carbon will probably cost you the most money. The rest it just a bunch of low costing items. :smokin:Quote:

Great how-to and parts list!
You can use different sized Caps if you need a larger filter (ie 8" cap and 8-6 reducer), and I fill mine with the crystal-type kitty litter - cheaper than activated carbon and works just as good!
Check out my grows, I use it with one rubbermaid growbox. I LST so its a bigass plant, yeilded 80g. Could be used otherways of course. :smokin:Quote:

On this filter do you still need to hook a FAN to it for it to work and if so what size fan do u use and best type to get for it and where to get a fan for it if needed???
Jamie
any 4 inch fan preferable inline duct fan or something of the like. canfan, vortex, etc. Try to get a fan with highest possible cfms for your use.
iono if its just cause im stoned or what, but the end without a endcap the 6-4" reducer part, how do you keep the carbon from spilling out into your ducting and how do you seal the inner screen in the reducer so that you get the most suction through the carbon....?if you could post a pick looking down the reducer that would clear this up for me...thx man
edit, ok looking more closly i can see how you made the seal, but the reducers i get at the depot dont have a lip on the inside were i would clamp the 4" sreen to, do you put in a 4" collar into the reducer to get this lip?
can you use this as an in-line filter? or what? how are you supposed to hook this up?
I love it, i've been looking for a how to build one of these for a while, and now i know.

Yeah i have mine hook up to an inline fan with ducting.Quote:

I'm about to build a cool tube for my hps, and I want to build one of these filters for the system.Quote:

This particular type of unit will not work "inline" (ie in the middle of a system) since it pulls (or exhausts) air through the side of the canister
i see... guess i'll have to chang my plans a bit
Couldnt you just suck air out of your cool-tube into a vent tube then into the scrubber (or blow through the cool tube, to vent, to scrub)? Thats what I'd do I think. One of these is still in my future, so with a grain of salt.
Hey, nice thread, good instructions :pimp: I was just wondering, do you think this fan would work if i hooked it up somehow http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6168&rd=1&rd=1 thanx.
This is awesome.
I think the best way to implement this device into your exhaust would be to have the scrubber, then the inline fan, then the ducting, then the exhaust port.
(Scrubber)(Inline Fan)(Ducting)(Exit Port)
I'm gonna make a few of these!
:rastasmoke:
With a few modifications (making the carbon chamber perpendicular to the airflow and using a solid material as the outer layer) you could make one of these to work "inline." THe filter would lose surface area, however.
Thats exactly how I run mine, but with the light in the middle.. Theres just a 6" exhaust port piped to the roofQuote:

If you are really creative and build the grow room to suit, you can get away with 1 fan for intake, exhaust, circulation and light cooling
I just made one of these using Bodom's general guidelines.
Now I just have to go to the store and buy some pantyhose. I'm sure I'll get some weird looks.:rasta:
http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=95268 GrowLog
so im guessing to use this, hang it up somewhere in your grow room and it eliminates the odor? I was under the impression, you also needed some sort of fan to blow through.
Let me know, my babies are 2 weeks, and i can tell there gonna be stinky (xxtra skunk)
^^Nope, you were right - you need a fan to pull or push the air through the media to remove the odor.
thank you, im going to get the parts over this christmas break and make it. is it very effective?
