Just got Final Fantasy XII

So, I just bought Final Fantasy XII and popped it in my PS2. My initial feelings are very mixed. Graphics are amazing, sound is good so far, but the new battle system hasn't impressed me so far. It is real time and all you do is click attack and the characters attack. I'm having a hard time seeing where stratagy will come in. Why couldn't they just use the old fashioned turn based?

I hope the story makes up for the sub-par battle system. That crap they released before this made me loose a little respect for the franchise. The crap I'm refering to is the action game following vincent valentine. It was so bad I can't even remember the name of it. Come on Square Enix, don't fail me on this.

FF pisses me off. Sure, the graphics are always sweet to look at, but they don't put enough empasis on game play. I bought a GAME so I could PLAY it. If I wanted to watch a movie, I would have rented a fuckin movie.

The graphics arent that good for final fantasy 12..

what do you mean by that man? ps2 is king, and if youre comparing it to xbox360, obviously its worse. BUT when ps3 is released, youre gonna toss away your 360 for a ps3, its gonna kill it!

PS3 is going to kick ass. I have always hated Xbox and was happy when Sony decided to hold off releasing the PS3. So happy they didn't rush the release to compete with the 360's. I'm thinking it will be well worth the wait.

yeah man, 80 gigs of memory, ability for music and all, built in online:D, and a step above hd for tvs that havent even come out yet, its gonna be off the hook

well im saying there is better these days...on pc...and on xbox360..

i still love ps2....just graphics wise...its not that great

the movie type scenes on ps2 on final fantasy tend to look sooo real

its awesome

I hear actual gameplay graphics of ps3 are equivalent to the movie scene graphics on ps2

I thought blue-ray (how ever they spell it) was for HDTV's. I dont think it is for a new kind of tv is it? I mean they are already selling discs, but people have no way to watch them. Oh well, it don't matter to me, unless I win some good money I'm stuck with my old bigscreen before they had HD and Plasma. You remember, when you just bought a tv and a size. I kind of miss those days but I would love a HD :D

sony already admitted the X-box 360 is more powerful than the PS3, without a doubt x-box will take over gaming as we know it.

Have fun spending 600 bucks on a ps3, graphics dont make good games.

I got it, and no the battle system is frickin sweet. You can control all charachters in real time. Once you get a little more into it it's mad strategy because you have to cycle through all charachters.

Yeah I picked it up on halloween, and it was pretty slow to start off, but once you get to setup all your gambits and such the new battle system really shines. Just give it a chance.

dude why the fuck are you so opinionated about this. if you think about it...theyre just game consoles and in a couple years theyre gona be equivelant to a sega saturn today.

in every single thread even mentioning games you talk shit on the 360 and talk up ps3 when very few people even want to spent 600 bucks anway. take a fuckin chillpill man other people are entitled to their own opinions.

im not going to engage in this argument but the ps3 has shitloads of useless features. i want to play games. if i wanted a fucking computer id go use my computer.

well that's the battle style they use in FFXI, and trust me, later on strategy will become everything when you have to juggle between casting spells, using abilites and still hitting your enemy, of course i'm assuming they also made this game figure in interuptions for spells, which makes timing everything.

Go down in price? hah... Aint gonna happen, not for 3-4 years atleast. Even Microsoft has admitted, the price of thier console will not drop, as they are already selling it at a loss. Hoping to gain more profits on software, ect.
PS3, may see a drop, but not for years to come. As for my opinion, if you add in the price for the HD-DVD add on for the xbox360 to the original price the 2 consoles pretty much equal out IN PRICE. But I dont like that fact that M$ will not use the HD-DVD techonolgy for games, only to watch movies. But sony will harness the great storage abilitys of the Blu-ray disc for its software.

The price of the PS3 is supposed to be around 400- 450, at least that was the last I heard. They are planning on selling it for less than it cost to make and lose money the first year. It's worth the money when it will be given as a gift. If it isn't than I will enjoy my PS2 for longer, but I will never buy an Xbox. I would rather spend more on a console that has more games than Halo. Xbox just can't compete with the games PS has.

Yeah, I am enjoying the battle system more now. I'm about 8 hrs into the game and I have died a few times now. I'm glad there isn't that annoying loading screen anymore every time you enter a battle. It tends to flow a lot better. The only thing I dislike is how I fell I have limited control at times.

Nevermind. I just checked Playstations website and it will be 500 and 600 dollars depending which model.

wii, heh! i gotta take a wicked yes! I started playing FFx again. mainly because my ffvii refuses to work...... damn it! so far the xbox 360 has inpressed me great graphics, awsome games so far. The only thing about the ps3 that inpresses me is the price...... 500$!!!!! for a friggen game system. i'll pay 20$ for a dreamcast and play skies of arcadia all day.

i los tall interest in FF after i beat 9...and started 10...couldnt finihs it, it was to boring...

i liked most of the final fantacy games. eccept 8 i hated that game. the cut sceens were to long and it was confusing to play.

give ffX another try or get past the part your in. Its the only game ive ever felt emotionally invested in.

if u dont care about graphics and u want a decent story and deep game play check out suikoden, i never get tired of it...i think #5 just came out...
number 1 and 2 were on ps 1. 2 of my favorite games ever, on any system...

I agree, I actually started caring about Yuna and the lot. I alway's thought the hate shown for FFX was a little strange. It certainly wasn't the best rpg or even the best game from the franchise, but it was a good game. Granted I wanted to break my PS sometimes when I would go back for an item and get stuck in a shitload of random battles with that squiggle battle transition screen.

I also love the cut sceens. I enjoy watching the story in better graphics and take a break from playing.

The best RPG ever though IMO would have to come down to either FFVII or Xenogears.
