RideTheFire's indoor mids grow
Hey everyone...
Just started my second grow, first time indoors. Im about 10 days into it and I have about 27 children in a planter not all of which have 6 leaves yet. After bringing them outdoors during the day and under a 50/50 plant aquatic light at night for the first 9 days. They look healthy but seemed to need more light so I went out and bought an ott grow light bulb (middle) and two 125 watt CFLs (sides) and positioned them on a home made ballast. Tin foiled around to trap some of the light.
Pictures to come in the A.M.

That last pic is funny.
But you are going to regret not giving them their own pots pretty soon!

Finally got more lights last night. Found (85w) CFLs that put out 250 watts each. Along with those I have 2-125 watt cfls and an ott grow light. They seem to be doing better just overnight with the added wattage. Im guessing that we are like 12-14 days from popping.

Nothing's wrong with it. Those are just the seed-leaves. They die off because they are just sort of little jump-starters for the plant. Like how the space shuttle dumps its booster rockets right away.

You deffinately want to be carefull bring your indoor plants outside. They will get bugged before you know it. i lost a whole harvest because i did that.

RideTheFire's indoor mids grow
It was originally going to be an outdoor grow but then we decided to splurge on lights... Depending on the # of females half of them still might go outside a couple weeks into flowering.

Update...
They arent looking as "happy" as normal. They seem to be turning a lighter green on some spots and other whole leaves... No nutes given to them yet but I might. Think I might be lacking nitrogen-or could be the water im giving them.
Maybe i should start buying filtered water for them...
Pictures coming later on tonight...

Update 11/12/06
NEW DIGITAL CAMERA  !!! No more shitty phone pictures.
Had them in the attic so I think the problem was the heat during the day. We semi-fixed that with fans so its not getting up in the 90oF+ range. The children seem to be doing okay... Starting to turn dark green again but I def. dont think they are enjoying living in soda cans. Seems like growing has slowed drastically in the last 3 days so we are transplanting them tonight into bigger pots and going to start nutes...
Looking forward to switchin 12/12 time!:rasta:

dude get rid of that tinfoil it is bad
just paint your walls white or build a box for the babes painted white inside or lined with white visqueen plastic or mylar
tinfoil is bad because it crinkles and light is reflected at oblique angles and with many hot spots you think your gaining light but actually your losing search around the boards if u dont believe me and need some verification

Get those plants out of the aluminum cans at your first chance... the aluminum will corrode off and block out other nutrients, in theory. Of course, cola is way more acidic than your watering water, so there must be some sort of coating in there... anyway the plants are coming along... yeah, white paint is great stuff.

Looking nice keep up the good work.
As the others said matt white paint or mylar would work better than tinfoil.
I think once you transplant those babies into new bigger pots they will take off again. As for nutes just start on 1/4 the reccomended dose and work your way up, it would be a shame to burn them now.

There ya go! :D
So what did you decide on for potting soil?
-
RideTheFire's indoor mids grow
Now that they are in 3 gallon pots we only have room for 8 plants. All the others have to planted outside and hope for the best...
I dont think I am going to fertilize until I see what the plants do in the new soil. The soil that we used turned out not to be for pots-but for outdoor in-ground plants (it was for roses). Its supposed to fertilize for 3 months... Any signs of nute burn and I imagine I would have to re-transplant into regular potting soil. So far so good though.
I know the tinfoil isnt the best... Ill try to fix that tonight...

Good plan to wait on ferting, even thought they definitely are ready for it, the new soil is pre-ferted...
If they show burn you can just flush them. Repotting is probably not needed.

You've probably seen all the 'oh, miracle grow sucks' posts but just keep an eye on things, at least all your numbers are below 1... check the pH of your runoff water if you can, because that's a likely place where problems with the ferts in the dirt will first show.

!!!!!!! HPS LIGHTS COME IN A WEEK !!!!!!!!!
I guess we're gonna wait another week to start 12/12, that way we'll have new lights for all of flowering. Change of lights won't negatively affect the plants at all, will it?
Hows LST look? 1st attempt at it... Not sure where to go with it from here though.
To top, or not to top?
-
RideTheFire's indoor mids grow
LSTd all but 2 plants yesterday!
-

LST looking good. Once they grow up again you might want to tie them down again its up to you. See how it looks when you get your HPS and start 2 flower.

They look healthier every time I drop by! Can't wait to see how the LST turns out. REmember to check that the strings don't dig into your stems!

I was kinda of wondering about that... We have slipknots holding them-do they grow with the plant? How long before I can take off the strings holding the main stock? Also, I tied back some of the bigger fan leaves on some of the plants so the growth on the bend (coming out of nodes) get more light... is this ok? New to LST so im assuming that that growth is what eventually forms into a new budsight:confused:
Temps are getting cooler in the attic and i'm wondering if I should incorporate a lamp with an incandescent bulb in the middle of my setup-for added heat???
At what temperature (F) should I start to worry??
Does smoking around plants harm them?
 I keep trying to post updates but it wont let me for some reason....
Thanks again for the help! :joint2:

I usually leave my plants tied all the way through because i am lazy. I just make sure there is some slack round the branch so it can grow.
Yes your right about the new growth comming from the nodes and I usually move leaves about so the new growth can get more light.
I have read you shouldn't really smoke round your plants but it has never stopped me.
As for temps I work in C but 16-18c I think is the coldest you can go without stunting your plant to much but I may be wrong. The cold does bring out any purple colour in your plants during flowering.
