i think that people are too fixated on race. i view people only as people, not as mexican, chinese, black, white, salvadorean, whatever. people are people. i think when we classify ourselves as a race, we our only segregating ourselves even more than we already are, and isnt that what everyone is complaining about? we all preach equality so why dont we view each other as equal? i dont find it nescessary to say im white, shes black. like i said we're all people.

I agree with you... but its nice to keep your ethinicity because thats your culture...

but i agree everyone should be equal... i think its the prejudice people need to work on.

i agree, the only way we can advance as a society is to see each other as one race. not be caught up in differences of origin.

A cow see's another cow as what it is, a cow. It doesnt care if that other cow has bigger utters or is a different pigment. Maybe because it's a damn cow and it see's other cows as what they are, cows.

People kinda see race and culture as the same thing, and it's not. Race is very simply the color of your skin, but your culture means where you came from and your peoples' common experiences and belief. It's true that when different cultures collide, bad things can happen, and that most successful marriages occur between people with similar backgrounds. It's not a good thing or a bad thing, it's just how it works.

I had to learn that for a psychology paper. I'm not nearly that intelligent.

Prejudices are put into the human psyche by media, environment and many
other elements...maybe one day we will evolve past that though.

I see white people... I'm basically blind to color growing up in the community that i did.. but I have to say, white people bug me out.. haha, it's like, I went to disney and everyone was speaking english and people didn't think my name was juan, really got homesick after a while of that.. Also went to county jail in a different county once, was so wierd, the white people wouldn't look at me or talk to me but every other race of person were all talking to me, was a little odd. what is this thread about anyways? I grew up in a very diverse community. I didn't like some blacks, hispanics, asians, or whites.
Although The reason why I didn't like those people was not because of their race. I really dont understand racisim. If you don't like someone because any element you choose, well, thats your choice. But to spread hate, and cause harm because you don't like something?

WAAAAY back in the 60's, we had one of the first mainstreamed, handicapped, students in our (almost lilly-white) school. His name was Mark, his Dad was a teacher and Mark had been blind from age 2, when he got a rare cancer of the eyes. It was either remove his eyes or he would die. Mark didn't remember what the different "races" were like, having lost his sight so young. And once while were were out on the blacktop, shooting the breeze, the topic of segregation came up. Mark said something that blew me away! After explaining how he didn't remember skin tones, he said "People are just voices to me- there is no race for me!" I've tried to live my life as "blind" to race as Mark was.

Naw, I'm just kiddin'. I agree. We shouldn't segregate ourselves. Whats even worse than racism, in my opinion, is reverse racism. For example at the school my mom works at, they HAVE to have so many 'minority' teachers, 'white' teachers can't even get jobs cause the school can get in trouble if n% of the teachers aren't 'black'.

ive heard that some college turned down a white student that had exceptional grades and all these extra curriculars (basically a straight edge geek :D ) and took a black student over them because they were being diverse. in my opinion that is the same as racism.

and for people who complain saying that calling someone black is racist... you now have to refer to me as a european-german-irish-"part cherokee" american.... i take offense to being called "white"

nothing's wrong with race, race helps us identify with groups of our ethnicities and makes us different and unique. its not about color, its about community and family and shared experiences and customs. what's wrong is racial inequality. i dont want the whole world to be of one color, one feelicng and one custom. i am proud that we can be a part of different ethnic groups. i see different races, but neither of them is better than the other.

That's not called reverse racism it's called affirmative action, which i think is wrong. You should be hired because of your skills not because of you race. The main reason i think affirmative action is so wrong is because it causes more animosity than before, like in your case. Oh and for the record i am black.

There are only four genetic "races": Indo-European, African, Native American, and East Asian. Many people have a mixture, to some degree or another. If you are of mostly European ancestry, and had a gggg grandmother that was Native American, you might show up as 5% Native American, and 95% Indo-European. Some people have a few different racial ancestries.

I paid a genetics company to have my genes scientifically tested and it was found that I am 100% Indo-European. This test covers six or so generations back - which involves quite a few ancestors. To get a DNA sample, you scrape the inside of your cheek with a plastic thingy, put it in a container with liquid that they provide, and send it in to be analyzed.

I had a few other DNA tests done, including straight male line, Y-DNA, that traces your paternal DNA back many thousands of years. I also had the mT-DNA test, for the maternal line - and that one went back some 18,000 years ago to the Austria/Nothern Italy area. My earliest straight-line female ancester, though, came to the U.S. from England in the 17th century. Her ancestors probably migrated to the British Isles thousands of years ago.

The only reason I called it that is cause on a movie (I forgot, but it might be 40-year old virgin) then this black guy (AFRICAN AMERICAN!) was like "wtf is that, that waitress just handed me my drink first, even though I'm in the middle, thats reverse racism!" or something.
