Fox Farms Ocean Forrest mixed 4:1 with perlite. Fox farms soil is what god had in mind for marijuana(just not for seedlings, you can get fox farms potting soil with no nutes for that)

Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixed 3:1 with a combination of perlite and vermiculite (mainly perlite). Then when it's used, I throw it out in the back yard, which helps that too!

Then what about when I need to give it some nutes? Could I use something to put in the water, with high nitorgen for growing? Or should I transplant it? I really hate transplanting it :mad:

Transplanting isn't that bad, I do it all the time. The trick is to just let your soil dry out pretty good before you pull it out. It tends to shrink a little and stick together in a clump. Set the pot your plant is currently in in the pot you're transplanting to and fill the new pot up til the plant sits right about where you want it. Then just take the old pot and the whole thing upside down with the stem in between your middle and ring finger holding the dirt up. Then put it right inside the pot-sized hole in the middle of your new pot. Simple, and stressless if you're careful.
But yeah, start them in something else besides ocean forest, but ocean forest rules for 2wk+ old plants.
You can always just ferillize your unfertilized potting soil after two weeks, but unless you start all your seedlings in their final sized pots, you're gonna need to transplant anyway.

glad to see someone agrees with me :D ... Ocean Forest is outstanding soil, BUT, my sprouting seedlings were dying almost immediately, something that has NEVER happened before (40 years growing experience) ... the soil was the last possible variable, and sure enough, switching back to my old, milder soil immediately solved the problem ... then, after the seedlings were a couple inches tall, I transplanted into large pots of the Ocean Forest, and, they really took off :dance: ... my local nursery owner (a college botany degree grower) verified that the OF soil is too 'hot' for some strains, said he would have warned me, had he known I was doing young seedlings ... others here say they have nothing but good results with it, but, after ruining a couple hundred dollars' worth of seeds, I will never use it to start plants again ... it is said the OF soil is so rich, it may not need ANY nutes added before going to the flowering stage, but I have been feeding Earth Juice products at about 1/3 dilution, and everything looks great, so far ... all in all, great soil, but already full of nutes, right out of the bag ... go easy with the additional nutes ... :smokin:

40lbs of composted cow manure with humus, $2.50 at Agway
8 quarts of Hoffman perlite (about an equal volume), $6 at Agway
Having happy, healthy plants... priceless.

I like using 1/3 coco coir, 1/3 or a bit more perlite, and 1/3 or somewhat less wormcastings. I'm experimenting with a version of that soil, but with some budswel and foxfarm starter fertilizer added, as well as some trace minerals. I'd like to have a soil that needs very little fertilization, or none, and instead I just transplant into a bigger pot for bloom that's the same mix, instead of adding fertilizer. Many organic soil components are slow-release, so watering shouldn't result in a significant loss of nutrients, it may actually make them more available.

Simplest question. What is your recommeneded soil, what do u use?
i'll probably be chastised for the following statements but, here ya go;
i start seeds/clones in bacto starter soil (has root stimulators and light starter ferts) in a quart sized pot. after 4 or 5 nodes, i transplant the plug (after 2 weeks, bacto gets hard as a brick and won't absorb, drain water effectively) into a 3 gallon pot of miracle gro garden soil supplement (not made for pots, is VERY rich for 3 weeks, it drains immediately and dries in a day). my plants show slight burn, then take off. by the time i get to flower, the time release is used up from watering everyday, and plants are the size of those twice their age in other soils.
~note~ DO NOT START SEEDS IN MG SOIL! THEY WILL DIE! as previously stated, mg is VERY rich, use only to transplant.
love, kp
