First time Grow LR, indoor diary

Lol, so far so good. You're going to want another couple of lights like that before long. Don't forget about ventillation too. It looks like you're growing in a cabinet or something, so getting fresh air to your babies is important (well, fresh co2 that is). With CFLs you shouldn't have too much to worry about temperature wise, just remember to keep them 1-2 inches away from the leaves (you might have to move them daily) to keep your plants from stretching. Probably 2-3 inches right now would be good. In a couple days it would be a good idea to put an oscilating fan in there to circulate air and strengthen up the stems. The air moving the stem around causes it to thicken, and thick stems = fat buds.

Oh I forgot. Where did you get your seeds from?

Oh and don't forget to poke holes in the bottoms of those cups. Drainage is important too :)

Ye man, lookin good for day 2. Nice lil cabinet you got there. I'm just finishing my lowryder grow and started a couple more which are about the same size as those. Don't worry about the size of you lowryders either, i got a small pheno type LR and it reached a size of 5-6 inches but with a fat/dense bud! Good luck with your grow man:thumbsup:

thanks for the replies guys. got the seeds from Joint Doctor. gettin a fan today, and the cups have drainage holes in them already. Would i be ok with just one little desk fan sitting in there cause the roof has holes in it? Also in terms of other lights i was lookin through my garage and found these 120watt conserv-energy CFL outdoor/indoor floodlight thats bright white light.....good/safe to use?

Yeah, the cfl floodlights should be safe to use, should actually be cool enough to the touch for the plants to actually touch those without burning you'd think, cause there is more glass around the cfl spiral right? Like a cone with a round disk of glass? As far as the fan, you want something that oscilates so it can blow on the plants but not blow on them constantly. Constant wind could dry out the leaves and has to be turned down way lower. An oscilating fan can be on a relatively higher setting blowing across the plants back and forth circulating more air and making your plants stout.

You also want something to bring air into the room or push air out of it to allow for air exchange. You could get a small computer fan like the ones your computer has and cut a hole in the back of that cabinet and mount it. Then cut another hole on the bottom. You could have a fan on both holes, one pulling air in, one blowing air out, or you could just have one blowing air out and a hole for passive intake. Your plants will grow much faster and healthier with proper air flow. You might not notice a problem as seedlings, but once your plants get a little bigger and start flowering it will stunt growth if you don't have enough fresh air.

As far as powering the fan, you can find ac/dc converters (what the black box on a phone charger is) that has variable voltage (will work like a volume control for your fan) at wal-mart for cheap usually. Or you can find an old cell phone charger and cut the cord and wire it to the fan.

Shit, better than that 12v fan, here is a 120v fan you could just split an extension cord and plug it straight into the wall I believe.

so i may have just discovered something in the attic...crazy light...not sure what it is tho...what do you guys think? it bends and stuff so it would definately fit in my box

That looks like a fluorescent light, if so then yeah it should work too. Between the cfl you have in there, that light, and those spotlights, you should be set on lighting for a little bit, you'll have to see as your plants get bigger. Can you get a pic of the spot lights?

so i changed my setup around....not using the floodlights yet cause i dont have any small enough lamps or disconnectable sockets..

does that look ok? wish i could make sure the light was cfl....

guessin they're around day 7 now....also i put in a fan...its not oscillating but the setting is really low...so lemme know what you think. also i had a 4th sprout but his seed shell is still kinda stuck on plus one of his leaves looks a little yellowish....think he'll be okay? oh yea and im gonna transplant to bigger pots over the weekend.

alright so i've been waterin every 2-3 days or so...came back home today to find this. not enough water, nute burn from miracle gro potting soil, what?

I have used miricle grow soil before and had no problems but many people have had lots. I think the leafs pointing up is high heat levels and as for the yellowing mabe just give them a good ph 7 watering. They should pull through and be just fine.
Hope it goes will i must plant a couple of my LR seeds soon.

A good watering tip is.
When the pots have lots of water they are heavy and as they dry out they become much lighter. I find this helps as my plants drink differant amounts from day to day.
P.s. You do have good drainage holes on the bottom of those pots don't you.

cool thanks man, i'll bump my fan up another speed to cool it down a little bit. ALso i have drainage holes spaced every couple inches around the bottom of the cup. Gave them a good water today and now i think i'll spritz em once a day or so. right now im have em on 24/0...should i switch to 18/6?

I have mine on 18/6 but plenty of people use 24/0 so i don't think it matters.
The drainage sounds good i was just checking. With the MG soil just go easy on the nutes and you should be ok.

alright so i now have 4 100w daylight CFLs soon to be 5...and whatever the light that i found is. temps are reading around 81.1...that ok? have a fan goin but its not really droppin
