My First Grow - Suggestions Please

Hi, 2 days ago I planted 2 unknown bag seeds approx 1 inch deep in some potting soil. I then put the plantpot on a table next to my window and watered it. Today i read that the seeds shouldn't be planted as deep as I planted mine, so I dug them up, inspected them and planted them about 5mm deep in some new compost.

When I looked at the seeds they had split and little white sprouts had appeared. I planted them sprout facing downwards. During the daytime there is usually alot of sun (i'm in the UK) so I put them outside for a few hours. During the nightime the window's get pretty cold, would you reccommend putting them somewhere in a cupboard of some sort? I was thinking of mabye putting them in the airing cupboard (the copboard which the boiler is kept in) which is constantly pretty warm.

What would you reccommend?

I think its planted sprout up!?! I did the same thing you did. I had some stuff with seeds in it... I planted them outside didnt think they would sprout and within a week 3 sprouted... three days later 1 more sprouted! Thats how it all begins... Now, I have an aeroponic system....

I think its a good idea to practice on found seeds vs. bank seeds. There's a learning curve if its your first time and its a lot of work & worry....but

Thanks for the help. Would you reccommend putting it in the boiler cupboard overnight as it is pretty warm in there, I put a paper towel plate in there which was soaked in water and it was dry withtin a couple of hours. Would you say this was too hot?

Temperature fluctuation can cause a number of undesirable effects. So if you were too leave it on the window sill permenantly, it would probaly survive, but be seriously stunted. If your growing just for the experience, I would say keeping it in the warm over night is better than leaving it in freezing conditions, at least that way the temperatures between daytime and nightime won't vary so much.

y cupboard sounds pretty warm might be too hot

Ive just looked at the boilers temperature and its 64 degrees, but that is the actualy boiling water inside of it, so im guessing the cupboard will be 30-40 as it is ventilated. I have placed my pot in there with a greenhouse/bag taped over it - filled with air. Does this sound ok? I will post pics soon.

yeh, i would do that, just dont let it dry out too much, good luck...

Well I watered them and left them in the mini greenhouse for a while and condensation began appearing on the inside of the bag - is this good?

Well it's morning now, I left them overnight and a worm appeared and died on the surface :P no signs of germination as of yet, but its only 9am.

Do you think I should put it in the boiler again tonight or leave it out?

Thanks for the advice, I checked on them earlier (seeing as they are only buried a couple of mm's under the surface) and the shoot has grown 2cm overnight! :)

Is this good progress? And should I leave the shoot pointing downwards as it was?

if it was me i would slap that back in the boiler room and wait for the seed casing to come off then plant it root down
