Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
Im starting to notice a problem with a plant im growing. The strain is Haze x Skunk (at least thats what my friend told me when he gave them too me) Im starting to notice the tips of some of the leaves curling down like a claw and the new growth near the top of the plant is curling like an upside down canoe. Over all the plant looks decent except for those areas. Also, can any of you confirm that this is a cannabis plant. Someone suggested it was not cannabis but a hemp plant. Growing conditions, the plant is in 2nd week of flowering will be week 3 on tuesday. Lights: 4 - 4ft warm tubes 3400 lumens each maybe an inch or two from the top of the plant. 4 - 42 watt warm cfls around the sides. Soil/pot: 6.25 gallon pot, foxfarm ocean forest soil. Nutes: GH nutes given according to "Lucas Formula" full strength once a week. Water Ph: 6.5. Plant is tied down on a few branches. Temp: Stays around 80 degrees when lights are on and probably 75 or 72 when off. There is a small fan oscillating in the room. Im also wondering about how long into flowering should it be before i see some buds forming? White hairs are just starting to come out. The plant was vegged for three weeks under 18/6 and was at least a good 12 - 15 inches when put under 12/12. Any other needed info please ask. Also this is a first grow.

im sure one of them will get around to posting a reply when they see the post.
looks like nutrient burn while the formula you are using would probably work for most some strains just dont like alot of nutrients plus growing conditions can also effect how much nutrients the plant will be able to handle.

my plant leaves go like that sometimes, and they do look like cannabis to me, my plants leaves are usually a little like that and they turned out fine, hemp is very similar tho so im not 100% sure but, wait till zandor or sum1 can tell,

Hi L3..
In know you are worried about your plant. She is a BIGGEN.. Your post definitely conveys your commitment to her.. : )
I looked up the LUCAS formula.. and it is for HYDRO nutrients.. which I have used for soil grows and other plants around the house.. but i definitely do not recommend it...
I do see some minor burning on a few of the tips
Your stalks look almost perfectly green... some minor red... which is a deficiency of some sort and worth watching. How can you have a deficiany with a nute burn.. Usually that is a PH issue.. but it looks like your PHis right on...
It also looks like your new growth has become less vigorous.....
meaning that your second to most recent fan leaves are smaller than their predecesors.. this is not IDEAL .. is this true? Is my observation correct...?
I need your help here cause without seeing older pictures of the plant I can't know for sure.. : )
Each new set of fan leaves should be bigger than the previous set..
More light...
Less Nutrients.. I would actually water with just plain 7.0 PH water... no nutrients...
I will definitley stay close to this thread.. I am cheering you on!!
iloveyou
BTW... she still looks GREAT and she will make it to the finish line!! : )

One more thing.. When you water her (without nutrients).. water her with more water than you usually do.. double the amount of water.... not the frequency but the amount....
cheers
BTW - how much do you normally water her with? LOL
please say 1 gallon or more.. she is a BIG LADY!!!
-
Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
thanks for responding knowm, i really appreciate it. As for the amount of water i give her, i was giving 2 quarts for awhile.. then recently i have been giving her 1 gallon of water ph'd to 6.5. You say 7.0 would be better? Also you said you dont recommend Lucas Formula? I will stop using it. Should i cut out all nutes or just the amount and frequency? I think you are right about the leaves not being vigorus, it seems that maybe the newer leaves are not as big, im not too sure. I have not been keeping a very good picture log but i will post pics of her from 1 week till now.

These are the latest, Knowm as you can see... the curling claw effect is pretty bad. It seems to mostly affect the small under growths. I have noticed a few larger/older leaves folding over as you can see in pic # 2. And when i say folding over, i mean it looks like someone took an iron and folded the leaf and pressed it. :(

one more thing... i need to water or water/feed her today. The soil is almost completely dry. Your suggestion, just plain water or water with some nutes? If i need to nute, what would you suggest? All i have is GH 3 part nutes. And should the water be PH 7.0? We have these water machines here where i live that supposedly is RO but i thought RO water was 7.0 ph, this stuff is in the 5 ph area. Here is a link to the machines in question: http://www.watermillsites.com/index.html Where i live tap water goes between 6.8 and 6.5.

Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
I would water her with ZERO nutrients... maybe 1-2 gallons of water.... and I would raise the PH from what you normaly water her with.... just for this particular watering.. 6.8 - 7.0 is probably good..
It sounds like you have a great watering technique...
thanks for the pictures..
Is transplanting a possiblilty?
cheers
-
Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
well, i thought the pot was adequate size, its 21 quarts.. isnt that like 5.25 gallon? I'd have to say that at this time i cannot transplant due to space, im wating to get my larger grow area in a few months. I will give her 2 gals of 7.0 distilled water. Im not questioning you knowlege Knowm... but im just curious as to why no nutes? Is it to flush basically and try to determine if there are any deficiencies?
-
Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
yes 5 gallon is more than adequate...
yeah, basically a flush and just an over all break... let things normalize... she definitley does not look under fed so I feel confident she can go a week without nutrients.. there are probably plenty of nutrients in the soil by this point.
If I had to take a stab in the dark I would guess that your plant has been fed a bit to much Nitrogen and not enough phosphorous and potassium...
How long are you into flowering now?
cheers

Tuesday (Halloween) will make 4 weeks. Someone else i talk to said i maybe changed the light cycle too early and my plants were not sexually mature. When i changed the light cycle i dont think i even had pre-flowers. I believe you are right about the nitrogen issue. I have been feeding this plant GH nutes, all three parts according to the feeding schedule on the product label ever since they were one week old. Not to mention she is in Foxfarm soil with all those organic goodies. So last night i gave her 2 gallons of PH'd 7.0 water... the runoff came out damn near clear. But last Sunday, i gave her a little flush with 2 gallons of water too and the runoff was very brown... about the color of Jack Daniels whiskey :(

I am not to sure what the problem is but i have had the same problem in my last 2 grows. I usually did as GN said and just cut out the nutes for a week same as if i see slight burning on the leaf tips. Anyway my plant has alwasy turned out fine with plenty of nice bud to smoke.
Mabe not as much as was scientificly possible, but still a good end result.

yes, i will do this. It has to be too much of somthing. Probably why my flowers are slow.. too much N.

4 weeks... ummmmmm.. wait a minute bro.. you have been 12/12 for 4 weeks and your plant looks like that? bro.. you must have a light leak... right?
I think your plant LOOKs good.. BUT it should look totally different 4 weeks into flowering..
Even if you have given it to much Nitrogen.. it would still have flowers and hairs all over...
Are you absolutley sure it is getting 12 hours of uniterupted darkness every 24 hours..?
cheers
ps- why is your AV so scary?
-
Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
hi guys, um is that plant from seed?
the only reason i ask is bc i had an incident where i started a plant inside and put it outside after 2 1/2 weeks. it was fall, already more dark than day. it took 7 weeks for flowers to show out! turned out female though, and ended well, the best of that year.
hope this can be of some help...

You are right man... this plant is in my master closet.. in the corner. Its not boxed in so lots of light does escape. The closet is about 5 x 14. Right now at this time i dont have the space for a grow room. I have thought about scrapping this grow and just wait until i get my shed. Im going to be buying a 10 x 16 barn shed and im going to close in a corner for growing. I've always been one to want to hurry and do stuff but it ends up going wrong. It does get 12 hours uninterrupted, i have it on a timer and strict rules not to go in the closet after the timer is off. Anyways, my AV is an actual pic of myself, so i guess im a pretty scary. So, should i scrap it? as i have no way right now to close her in. :(
-
Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
NO.. don't scrap it... yikes... how about some visqueen.. can you get some of this stuff from a hydro shop and tack it up around your plants?
It is a nice plant!!!!
Princess.. - HI : )
Where should I stop by? link me.. cheers..
L3 - I am off to the UK on Thursday and i will not be back until Monday.. Your plant has tremendous potential... don't put her down...!! LOVE
If nothing else, you should clone HER.. it will be great practice.. she could give 20-50 clones.... at least
cheers
that is a pic of yourself? what is the occasion? : )

would expect it to take a little longer to flower if it wans't mature when you switched to flowering, plus with no idea of the strain it could be sativa dominate and take longer to flower.

alright knowm, i wont scrap her. she is showing lots of bud sites and pistils just probably not as many and as dense at it should be. i will try to find somthing to tack up around her. one last thing... she needs watering again, should i do the plain water again of can she get some food? and if so how much? im using gh 3 part nutes.

L3G10N, for your own safety, rename your photos and edit them with a filter if possible. From the name of your photo I can already tell you it's a sony cybershot, if I went a bit further into it I could find the store it was bought from and who bought it.
Cheers m8, and stay safe, the war isnt over yet. :smokin:

not trying to change you up, legion, but, super bloom (aka super phosphate) by greenlight is a true wonder. soft nutes so there's little chance for burning, and WOW do those buds explode! i add a tablespoon of sugar per gallon to help metabolize the ferts, started at half strength, and up to full now... i feed once a week...
even says on the bottle, "makes plants want to BLOOM!!!"
hope this is a help, (6$ a jar)by the way...

ps, i say, yep feed!

Ok, heres some new pics. Not much to look at, but she is doing better i think. Im going to try and put up a shower curtain across the front of her lined with mylar. Brown tips on pic #5 is from growing into the lights overnight.

Nice Bud shots L3G10N, they are truly beautiful :p . How long have they ben in flowering? I can see that the LSTing really helped to get some more bud sites to pop up all over the place. Keep Em Green  ...

Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
well its been about 5 weeks, the buds are not growing very big due to major light leaks. Im just gonna go the rest of the 5 weeks to see what happens. I did notice though that most all my leaf tips are curling and turning brown. This cannot be a nute issue because she has not been given any in quite awhile, and also i dont think its PH because i have been giving her 7.0 PH water as suggested by Garden Knowm. Also the older bottom leaves are getting yellow.
-
Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
Great... Now return to 6.5 PH and hit her with diluted nutes....
The light leaks need to be addressed..

Ok Knowm, the best i could do was put a curtain across the front of her, a white vinyl shower curtain and i lined the inside with mylar. I will give her diluted nutes with next watering. I currently have two different types of nutes. I have the GH 3 part, and was recently given free samples of Foxfarm flowering nutes... Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz and Cha-Ching. Open sesame is for flowering inducing i think, beastie bloomz for mid flowering and cha-ching for late flowering. Which should i use you think?

Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
So, im noticing yellowing of the leaves on the plant.. mostly the bottom area. Im wondering if this is the yellowing that naturally occurs when the plant flowers?
-
Latewood, Zandor, Garden Knowm... Opinion.
Please... does this look like normal yellowing? Its around the bottom leaves and looks like its working its way to the top. Only plain water has been used, ph 7.0 and now 6.5, was planning on feeding some nutes. Tues will be 7 weeks flower, strain is Haze x Skunk. I have GH 3 part nutes and Foxfarm soluble poweders, Open sesame 5-45-19, Beastie Bloomz 0-50-30 and Cha-Ching 9-50-10. If i need to feed, which one and how much? Thanks.
