~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
Alright guys, i had to make a thread for my 1st grow (happening to be the controversial lowryder strain) and as of now it's day 28 and flowering is ago :D . I'm using a single 100 watt cfl in a large nightstand and have added flowering/bloom ferts to the soil a few days ago. it seems i got the "large" phenotype so hopefully this baby will bud up to around 15 grams. But I'm getting ahead of myself...countless pistils are growing every day and my gal's emitting a nice planty yet potty smell  .
these are flowering pics of my girl...never grown a plant before let alone one that's flowering so tell me what you guys think! all questions or comments are appreciated
[attachment=o93197] [attachment=o93198] [attachment=o93199]
how does the flowering look?

looking good and healthy keep it up i havent any luck with lowryders at all :(
i will be following this grow till the end keep up the updates and the good work
cheers all :)

That is very impressive, grown under just one 100 watt CFL. Your lowyrder looks extremely healthy.

~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
I just started my lowryder grow five days ago. Do you by any change remember how quickly your plant got its second nodes? I don't know if this is the case, but it seems like my lowryder is growing rather slowly compared to my experiemental bag seed grow. I'm five days in, and the second set of real leaves are just now starting to form.
I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything wrong. Lights are really close, temp and humidity are good, its plenty watered. This is just strange.
Could it be that since it's a small strain that it just doesn't form new foliage as rapidly as other larger strains? I'm puzzled.
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
thanks guys  i'll keep ya updated
But ya about ur question man, lowryder (or at least mine) grows exponentially. Meaning that it grows pretty slow, then new leaves start coming, and eventually it grows new leaf formations every day.
My second set (beside the clover leaves) were obviously formed and much larger than the clovers at around day 7, so i'd say your situation is completely normal. if you look in the very middle junction you should probably see little tiny leaf structures coming very soon :p

~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
Well done mate for havin such a successful grow! I wish i had ur plant n all lol, did you say you had somethin like 20 flowers! Dude im gettin jealous :(
Is youre cfl a 6400k light or 2700k? I got mine under the vegatative light but duno if i shud change it, i no lowryder doesnt really mind which one but there must be some kind of difference? I cant wait to see you're buds cluster together! :D
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
ya this is my light bro
[attachment=o93439]
it's a pretty simple little light, it's a 3-way and i just keep it on the highest (it's supposed to compare to a 150 watt standard bulb) but it's a cfl/plant happy.
But don't feel down at all bro, it really just comes down to the phenotype (plant genetics from it's moma/papa) and you just got the more compact phenotype from that seed. I don't think any light would change that, but be happy bro, you're gona be smoking homegrown dank in a couple weeks :D
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
Hope that you know thats not 100watts of light, its only 28 watts. I wonder how many grams you'll get with only 28 watts of light..
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
lumens are what's important here, and cfl's have plenty of them. That "28 watt" bulb emits near 5 times the lumes of a 100-watt incendecent bulb. And I'm adding one more tonight...
someone wana look at my gal and tell me she looks unhelathy?
what features strike out to you as lack of light on my pics man?
as far as the yield, come back to this thread in a few weeks and we'll see who's right..until then back off...plenty of members have grown sucessful single plants under one cfl, all grow guides state "try and have at least 25 watts per square foot". Well guess what? my gal's just under a square foot....hmmmmm....and you said the bulb emits only 28 watts???? well according to your theory i'm still ahead of the game, and by the way bro, watts is the energy the light is using, not the amount of light the plant is getting, that would be lumens buddy

~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
good news guys, just reached the big 10" high mark for my gal. :D.
and also, there are at leadt like 10 pistil "bushes" on the tops of various braches on my plant which makes me very happy and they smell very tasty
got a question though for the growers here:
at what point do the seperate pistil "bushes" acually bud up and cover the actual branch???
and...
do new pistils grow on top of the older ones when budding becomes rapid (i figure in the next week) or do they simply bunch up next to eachother with new leaves//foliage???
~peace~

lol! you really should find out what you're talking about before you state something regarding it...

wait, was that dissing me or that guy? lol

That guy. I was implying that he doesn't know anything about CFL's..

up! c'mon guys any feedback? :stoned:
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
Well, things have been going pretty well for my 1st female guys and I can't beleive how she's still getting taller and taller :p . The current height of this lowryder is a 11.5" and yesterday was 10.5" so i figure she's gona keep on shootin up :D .
What I like most of all is the amount of bud clusters all over my gal! There must be at least a dozen from top to bottom. However I'm kind of nervous, because although there are tons of pistils (as seen in pics) but there is not any bud formation  ? Are the pisils bushes just gona stay small like they are in the pics, or do they start to cover the full length of the branches at one point? any feedback would be great on this question guys.
Besides that I'm very much liking my first grow and switched from a single cfl to a 2 foot flourescent tube of like 80 watts or around there...hopefully this will increase the bud formation in a few days or so...
~Day 35 and comments/opinions appreciated~
-first pic's of the central top bud
-second is a nice branch on my gal (will bud form over it soon?)
-and the rest are just some extras!

So why have you switched to a 80 watt fluro?
Peace :rasta:
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
because it puts out a lot more lumens. cfl's are nice but they're small and less efficient (barely shed light on the bottom of my plant. the 80 watt cfl is a 2 foot long fluorescent tube and shines nice bright even light to all parts of my gal :p .
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
She looks a bit streched to me. Some LST next time might be a good idea. Congrats otherwise tho
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
Nice looking plant dude,
CFL's have come so far from the earlier days. Back when i started growing there were no grow specific fluro. I used to use dozens of the 4 foot double tubes. You know the common older household types.
Though that plant does look fairly healthy, you do realise of course that the only way to assure a decent sized yield is with more watts/lumens.
I mean, if one plant is all you're doing and hope to do in future, hey, nice little plant, and whatever works...works. You know what i mean?
But I'd hazard a guess after a 1-2 plant grow is finished, and so is the total weight of bud, you'll be wanting a bigger total yield and larger grow for next time.
My first grow as a closet with a 400watt HPS, not any huge amount of buddage, but a great smoke, and an even better first grow experience. For it's educational purposes if nothing else.
If you can arrange good ventilation and maybe a 400W HPS I'm sure you'll never go back. Clearly CFL is becomming a more and more viable grow light. With advancements and improvments in the spectrums that CFL provide, more and more growers are producing some decent crops. So maybe a whole lot more CFL's? lol who knows, I guess I'll just always be a HID fan :)
Good luck, happy growing, and again, nice little plant dude :)
Fingers

looking good bro
thats looking nice as fuck them buds are looking good looks like ya have a decent plant going on there i cant wait to see what the harvest is gonna be from that
keep up the good work
cheers all :)
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
Ye that plant looks mint:thumbsup:
nice bud shots you got there, and i don't see why you shouldn't get good harvest. With the way your plant is looking at the moment you gona get alot of dank bud when the time comes.
I just decided to call my plant Ivory, its a good name and i just watched 'how high' lol. I've currently got one seedling and one in germination and Ivory's doin pretty fine hehe;)

hey there maryjanehaze.. i must say very nice first grow i like it:thumbsup: you must be very pleased with yourself... the pistals form more and more as they age.. but unfortunatly the pistals will not cover the whole stems.. if your nodes are closer the pistals will cover more of the stems giving you bigger buds.. but dont worry bout all that just be happy that your first grow is goin great.. now the pistals have covered the plant the buds will start to grow out of them and start pascking on weight every day.. your only on day 35 so you still have another 25days to go.. well you mite even want or fell the need to go 70 days or so.. if so that means you have 35 days or so left.. you have done most of the hard work just sit back relax and let the good times roll...
pps.. if you havent thought of a name for your plant how about kitty?? was the name of my late cat.. i named my other cat kitty too lol.. n guess wot my next cat will be called ?? yep you got it hahaha.. anyways happy growing

~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
It is a lovely plant although it is a bit stretched. Is that because of the lighting or is that just how those lowryders grow? I have heard about those little lowryider devils but have not seen them being grown before. How is the buzz from those?
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
thanks for the comments guys, ya so she's officially called kitty, and as sad as i am to say it, it looks like she's gona have to be cut early :( . I've known I was going to Paris for 2 weeks, and i know she won't be able to survive it, so as of tomorrow she has to have an early harvest.
i wish there was a way for her to survive but no one can take care of her me and i have to leave in two days. so, can any of you guys help out, she's like 3-4 days flowering growth more than in the previous pics, and i'm wondering if whe little clusters i have will be smokeable??? i mean, if i dry and cure like normal, i should get some kind of high out of them right???
also, would it be best to not water her or give her light her last 24 hours?
i heard that causes plants to work its hardest to make bud before the inevitable. Answers to my confused questions will be appreciated guys...
~peace~
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
Put it in a nice large pot, feed and water it good before you leave. Spray with some anti wilt. I think it will be ok....way better than harvesting that strain that early.
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
There must be some sort of time watering thing you can use isn't there? The more time you can buy the better. And honestly if it dries up while you are gone isn't that what you were going to do to it anyway?
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
ya, i guess i could set up some kind of timed watering and hope for the best.
i was also just thinking, what would happen if i just stuck it in some dark place the whole time with a lot of watering? would it know its gona die b/c lack of light and use up its energy for bud production? i just don't want to trust having lights on 24/7 for 14 days w/o checking on them. Fire and shit. Also, a relative is coming back from Paris to stay at my place so i won't be able to grow when i come back anyways.
what'dya tthink?
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
could you put it outside while your away? then harvest when you get back?
-
~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
nah dude, my plant's spent it's life in 70-80 degree (F) temps, it get down to 35 degrees some nights now...so it'll die if i do that... if it was summer i'd do ur idea though

hey maryjanehaze im so pleased you called your baby kitty:dance: thank you:) .. but very sad to hear about the early harvest that sucks... but least your goin paris so hey its not all doom and gloom;) .... but... if you havent harvested yet i would if i were you rack my brain as of how i could get around this situation and keep kitty going:D... have you got any brothers or sisters that you are close to?? mabe they could look after kitty.. or is there any woods forests near you?? if so plot her up there in a nice spot and crossed fingers no1 takes her:mad: .. mother nature will water her.. then when you get back from paris with your relitive friend/guest.. they will be non the wiser .. then when they leave .. kitty can come home:D.. anyways just a thought .... whatever you decide to do all the best enjoy paris . and thank you for naming your baby kitty:thumbsup:

if i was you i would look into using a wick system it basicly waters your plants through a wick slowly giving your plants water i never used it or even seen one used but it may help you out :)

~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
this is quoted from the Garden Knowm
Quote:
water them thoroughly and get some oversized trays for your containers that can hold run off.... water your pplants until the trays are filled to the top...
then reduce yur lighting to 10 on and 14 hours off.. less heat will make your final watering last LONGER..
A good thorough watering of 1 gallon of water into a 5 gallon container, in a room with a temperature of 70-75 degrees, should last a plant that is in the final week of its flowering.. at least 7-10 days.. AT LEAST!

~Log of a Budding Lowryder~
leaving tomorrow and found a friend w/ light to feed and water for me! so i'm real happy. i'm gona check in with hime once or twice when i'm gone and post the results when i get back.
if all go well i should have pics up one or two days before harvest by the time i get back here!
