Something like this shouldn't end a friendship and if it does.. well, you have to ask yourself if it really makes that much of a difference on your life. My best friend of 13 years dropped me like a dirty diaper, for reasons.. that still baffle me. I was pretty taken back by it.. as we grew up together and nothing really "caused" the end of the friendship.
"Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in the geography of lifestyles because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young."
If he can't accept what you've told him, than perhaps it's time to part ways as active friends.
Cheers,
Bob.

If he ditches you for that, hes not really a friend.
One of my friends stopped hangin' out with me cause I smoked weed. Blamed it entirely on me, "we were great friends untill you started smoking pot!" etc. And a year later the kid is a stoner...
Fuck him though, his loss.

My friends who don't smoke are against pot, know I smoke, but are coolw ith it because I was able to provide a counter-argument as to why I do it. Just make an effort to explain why you do it, and then try to work it out.
And yeah, like the people above me said, if he ditches you for that, he's not really a friend.

if he'll listen, and if you have the patience, explain to him how harmless it is, then if he's willing, get him to try it a few times, and see what his viewpoint is. anyway, if he bails, then fuck him! assholes like that are a dime a dozen.

I have a friend that hated me smoking cigs, but in the end he came round to it. Then i started smoking weed at his house and shit, and he was telling me all this shit about how it kills you and blah blah blah. So i got his laptop, showed him all the truth about it and now he tokes up with me, and loves it. It was good to actually teach someone about it, because before i told him about all the government lies he belived it. now he knows the truth

AlwaysBlazed wins the award for coolest avatar in my book. Requiem for a Dream made me almost quit smokin', almost, heh. Then I realized that movie wasn't about the harm of narcotics, but of self control. Or some shit, I don't remember. :p

There's no need to pressure or continuously ask/suggest to your friend that he should experiment. If you're just throwing the suggestion out there for him, cool. But have some respect and accept his choice/decision not to smoke just like you wish him to respect your decision to smoke.

...Now I HAVE to see that movie, knowing that sweet little clip is from it.
Hmmm...I don't know if I'd try and 'pressure' him too much. Just be like "yo' you wanna try it thats cool, if not thats cool too" otherwise you might come off like one of those "JUST DO IT MAN!" guys that those abovetheinfluence bullshit ads percieves us as.
