im sure this has been asked before but not sure wat to believe.
is ther anything i should be doing wen i change to 12/12?
like change to bud nutrients one week before hand?
or go 24 hours with no light before the change?
ive heard of a few things but ive never done them and didnt seem to matter.
any advice would eb good :)

hey there bro well i dont know bout drip/bubbler hydro systems.. but when you switch to flower 12/12 you simply swich the lights from what your on now 18/6 to 12/12.. as for bud nutrients most growers use veg ferts for the first week of flowering as its high in nitrogen and lots of plants lack it early in flowering then go straight on to flowering ferts but only like a quarter the recomended dose.. opps i just realised that no posting questions to.. o well ive wrote this out now im sure it wont hurt.. and if it does hey im so sorry;)

I'm not sure where this 24 hours of dark before switching to 12/12 came from but it's not needed, if anything it simply makes the plant go "double you tee ef, man"
Simply turn the lights on for 12 hours as opposed to 18. As for nutrient change, well it looks like you know what you're doing with the nutrients so you'd be okay there, especially if you've grown hydro before.

yeah, nothing special needs to be done. just a simple resetting of your timer and as far as ferts, use them at their normal time when you switch. you might even see a need for more N after a month or so of flowering and it does no harm giving them a dose of veg ferts, in case the plants start lightening up or show other signs of nitrogen deficiency...i do it with nearly every grow and is always needed for the longer flowering sat's in an outdoor environment. you need to be more careful in an indoor grow as ferts will build up in soil, but you shouldn't have that prob in your hydro grow and only added it for the dirt farmers reading this.

All good info! SO the nutes answer was??? If on veg high nutes, just change at next regular interval? And (sorry) I am using GH nutes. Should they be phased in or should I do a water change of some type when I DO change them?

when you want to change, Add a complete fresh water/nutes change out...
I use 2 different values for GH3-part 5ml per gallon of each in early veg...then 8ml per gallon in late veg/early flower...
2nd to 3rd week of flower...(I mix 5 gallons at a time.)
week 2-3f, I use 15ml grow-40ml micro-40ml bloom)
I add 15ml of calmag+ (I use ROwater)
and I use Liquid Karma 40 ml...remember this is a 5 gallon recipe.
In between changes7-10 days, I add rowater by itself, or with 40ml Liquid Karma.
ph at 5.8 until week 2-3f and then ph at 5.4...5.5...5.6..5.7, and back to 5.8 for the last 2-3 weeks. Hope this helps.

I have questioned the 24 hour of darkness but always done it, been raised around old schoolers. I have said before on this board that I do it, but I have also said that I am not sure if it isn't a hippy tail. LOL
I don't do the 2 to 5 days of darkness to increase the resin at the end of harvest, I have seen too many tests that said that they had seen or noticed no difference. So maybe I am 1 for 1 on the hippy tails.

3-2-1/1-2-3 is just another option that is being used. Advanced nutrients and GH do something close to what I posted...I just tweaked the formula a little as per my own observation.Quote:

If the sun doesn't turn off, then why would you turn off your lights for a day...Just change periods, and change nutes...If anything is different at transition, then it is the fact that some growers "flush for a week at transition. peace
I was curious about that too. I was considering the "soaked in darkeness" technique between 18/6 & 12/12 but didnt do it, so I guess I'm glad we didnt. We were worried, however about the nute changeover from veg to bloom so we basically flushed with plain water for a few days when we changed over. Then we started on 25% bloom. I've seen many people say to "just go for it" once you get to the flowering period, but I've had some problems with nute burn and we wanted to stay on the safe side. We're having some problems with one of the plants looking severely deficient in something and the others are looking a little sad too (this is in the main flowering room), so we bumped the dosage up to 50% bloom. Also planning to add some epsom salt after suspecting possible magnesium def.
So, questions:
1. Should we bump our bloom nutes up higher to 75% or closer to 100%?:eek:
2. Does anyone else think that our plant #13 is deficent in magnesium?

Again the matter of full strength nutes as opposed to 1/4 or 1/2 strenght is a matter for each individual. I would say that you would want to feed at least 50% after transition, but I personally "go for it!" and give them a fresh batch of full strength EC 2.0 nutes.Quote:
