Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
[But not her first grow]
Hey all, it's time to finally document some of my [mis]adventures in the attic.
The votes are in, and after some consideration my next batch of seeds is going to be... (drumroll please)... PAPAYA!
My girlfriends are bugging me for more FRUIT in their diets. :D
This is going to be a continuation of my perpetual crop, so I'll be starting 6 or 12 seeds weekly, depending on space opening up in the grow rooms, but I'll try to follow the progress of the papaya, from start to pruning to sexing to cloning to havest.
White Rhino will probably be next on the list, then the week after, a Kush, then another fruit strain, then Power Plant, then maybe Haze, then bluemoonrocks, etc. going in the order fruity, yield, earthy, and so on.
Basic stats: Dirt grow, Botanicare nutes with organic amendments, veg under flouros then MH250, flower under HPS400 + HPS1000 as soon as the weather turns cooler.
First pics Monday.

should be good :)
im curious as to how you configure the 400, and the 1000 together, do you use both on the same patch of plants, or do you have some under the 400 and some under the 1000, or do you rotate them, or do you start with the 400, then put them under the 1000 as they mature??
thanks

Ideally they start under the 400 and move towards the 1000 as they mature, so they finish under the 1000.
In practice, whatever plant grows upwards fastest gets moved towards that end of the room sooner. That way the canopy is reasonably even. And I've been too lazy to tag my plants by date up to now.
Currently I'm not even running the 1000 because of summer heat, and using the 400 where the 1000 will be('departures' :D), and a MH400 on the 'new arrivals' side of the room.

Oh no! Pro style!? Nooooo..... not a pro! Just a happy gardener!
And my eyes are hazel!
Okay, here's the update as promised:
Yesterday I moistened my seeds, papaya and my freebie dreamweaver x godbud.
That was around lunchtime, and this morning 3 of the papayas had already popped.
Method as follows:
2x20mL glass vials, one for each strain, washed with detergent and water, rinsed, and sterilized with rubbing alcohol ( to kill mold spores) and rinsed again with tap water.
Vials poured out leaving just a few drops of water in them.
Seeds placed in vials, labeled, sealed, and placed in my kitchen, ambient temps in the 70s.
Prepped nursery 6-packs, soil mix is mostly compost and perlite, just a touch of topsoil mixed in.
Vials shown below.

Stinky with 1400 total watts you may want to think about starting out 2 cabs and have them timed to get a harvest every 2 months behind each other start plants in cab 1 (400) then move to cab 2 (1000) when they are 1 month into flower then start cab 1 all over :)
-
Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
Nope, it's not a cabinet grow, and I've already got a perpetual crop in my growrooms. Not changing anything. And I've got way more watts than that-
veg room has 8 tube flouros plus a MH250, which will be replaced by the MH400 from the flower room, flower room has a HPS 400 and a MH 400 that will be replaced by my 'winter' HPS 1000.
Grow areas are each 5x10 feet.

Hey, StinkyAttic! Look forward to seeing your grow. I've seen lots of your posts. I didnt know you were a girl for a little while. Very intelligent. Love your grows. Sad you haven't stopped by mine tho. :( I sure could use your expertise.
Anyway, will keep up with your citus grows. Should be nice and stinky. T'care.

Works out nicely.
Keeps me happy all the time.
There's always something to do- transplanting, starting seeds, harvesting, sexing, etc.
I enjoy being busy with a different project every day.
My harvest schedule works out to be around 4 plants a week (24 x 3-gallon pails + 18 5" square pots getting sexed) on an 8-week cycle in flower, and if plants take too long to mature, I just don't add new unsexed plants that week.
Similarly, in veg, they remain in that room until the nodes go alternating, and I start new seeds as needed to fill holes left by mature plants.

Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
Update, yesterday evening, 36 hours after moistening the seeds, the score is:
Papaya 10/10
Godbud X Dreamweaver 0/10, and not even a sign of splitting.
I looked up the latter on the seedboutique forum, where the breeder has a grow log. Seems he did a run of 30,000 seeds of that cross, that he calls 'dream goddess', but had some temp issues during drying, and low germination. I read between the lines that that is the reson they're being handed out as freebies... um, nice freebie. I'll update of course if any do happen to pop!
Anyhow, the papayas are all in dirt: 50% perlite 50% composted manure/humus. I'm expecting that mix to be a little on the 'hot' side with potential for slight burn, but it worked out for the BOG stuff I popped last month- they did get a bit burned, but 100% of them outgrew it quickly and growth was explosive after that.
-
Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
thats too bad freebies seldom sprout at a 100% rate other than that everything seems good.

Those peppers- yikes, I've got more than I can eat, and the plants are still flowering, and they're coming in for the winter! I abused them, didn't fertilize, didn't weed, didn't stake them, only watered once all summer, when they got set out in the garden, the dogs peed on the plants, gotta say those are 2 varieties that I will ALWAYS grow.
You may know my feelings on garden plants by now; if it's indestructible, I'll grow it every year. Already gave up on tea roses in favor of shrub and rugosa varieties, I don't really 'do' stupid impatiens or petunias becaus I refuse to deadhead them, and even lifting gladiolus bulbs in the fall is kind of a stretch, so they're going in a bed right up against the cellar wall so they can stay in the ground all year. I once had my garden located atop a septic tank just for the heat! Everything grew like crazy in that spot!

Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
Update, the godbud X finally popped! 9/15 are in dirt now, waiting for the last 6 to pop.
-
Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
Update- one more godbud x in soil this morning.
The papayas have begun to poke out of the soil.
I took some pics of the setup to kill time during the boring, waiting stage we're in now:
First pic is an Afghan girl a month into flower
2nd is a bagseed x afghan with 2 weeks to go. She's hard as a rock.
3rd is my cloning setup, just a couple simple wick units. Easy.
4th is a whole bunch of BOG veggers about 6 weeks from seed. None has matured yet but I'm guessing they will be ready to flower in another week or 2.
5th pic is just my veg setup. It's a little messier than I should be keeping it, but I've been moving stuff around to make room for my hot pepper plants coming indoors for the winter.

Nice afghans, Stinky. Nice litte room, too. Is that a Santa Claus in the bgrd? ;) Look forward to seeing these little Papayas sprout. I'm going after Bubblegum & NL #5 next. Gonna post some of my ventilation pics later today. Stop by and visit! ;)
I love growing peppers. They are almost as hardy and forgiving as the cannabis plant, not that I grow cannabis, cuz I dont. I had so many peppers, I had to give most of them away to this crazy mexican friend of mine who eats them raw like a pickle.

I have this one friend who was a cop, got fired from 2 different towns for basically being a little TOO quick to get in high-speed chases, is now a security guard and military reservist, so you can just imagine he's like mister macho, and last time he was over took a big bite of one of the corne di toro peppers--- "no, it's not hot" as his face turns red--- then a minute later-- "uh, do you have any milk?" lol.

I like your setup stinky. It seems to be well organized so as to not cause confusion. Very nice and the plants look pretty good. I have heard Papaya is a pretty good strain. I'm looking forward to see how they do. I would like a smoke report as well.
Happy Toking :rasta:

Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
Update, I'm going to fill you-all in on other aspects of my perpetual harvest projects too.
My projects last night were watering of course, checking for males of course, because those things happen daily.
I also chopped up all my accumulated dried trimmings from the past month and got them soaking in isopropanol, in glass of course, because it is nonreactive.
This morning I puttered around in the growroom, tended the seedlings, checked the progress of my clones, removed dead leaves from the cloning box and the soil in everyones' pots.
Some plants got a fresh application of diatomaceous earth.
We are supposed to have a frost tonight so I finished bringing in my garden plants. They all got sprayed off outdoors to knock off bugs, then allowed to dry on the front porch. I removed all the dead plant material on the soil surface and covered it with a perlite-rich mix and a sprinkling of D.E. Then they went into the flower room.
The papayas are doing okay, not much to report, they are stretched a bit as I expected them too as my light isn't ideal, but this always happens and I just bury them to the seed-leaves when I transplant them.
The godbud X are breaking dirt finally.
I'm also making a pot of goo hash, pics attached, it's just a homemade double-boiler with a glass top for the extract itself- easier to scrape and nonreactive of course. By the time I had to leave for work, it wasn't evaporated yet, but no biggie, I'll finish it tonight.
Pics are:
1) hash project
2) seedling area
3-5) peppers!

Sorry if you ahve already mentioned it..
just curious what the shite power is I can see on some of you plants? Is that to stop critters? from snagging goods form the leaves?
Looks awsome like usual

The 'shite powder' (I love when typos make new words that make sense in context!!!) is Diatomaceous Earth, I'm just going to call it D.E. for shortness.
It keeps my thrip problem in check. It gets out of hand fast when I stop powdering and neeming.
Mostly I just use DE on the soil surface and neem on the leaves, but the DE gets EVERYWHERE, and I use it on the leaves in late flower too when neem is out of the question.
Sometimes it gets on the lower buds but I don't care because whatever, those are the ones I pollinate and after taking seeds out they just get binned with the hash stash.

Hello Mam, He takes his hat off, old fashion or something. "Word on this thread is that you had a personal relationship with a group of afghans from the Middle East. Did they still follow the customs of their home land and ware a head dressing of sticky fat hemp fabric?
How long did they spend under your roof veging out on your banquet of fine organic morsels? Did they get too tall, or stretch out much before sleeping 12 hours a night? Did they consume allot of light, 1K or 400w? How many days did they mope around for 12 hours a day basking in the rays before they were ready to make theirselves a sacrifice on the alter of the great green Goddess?"
:Finally Mam, don't mean to pry so much." Fumbles around with his hat, pokes the toe of his boot in the floor, then asks, "Were they a fat bunch of girls? Did they put on some size, how much would you reckoned those girls weighed?" Blushes and looks sheepish.
Thank you Mam for your time, I hope I haven't offended you by prying so much.
So long Adieu

The Afghan seeds were a trade from a friend for whom I built a rudimentary aero-cloner.
They vegged for 8 weeks from germ, like all my lovely hos.
Veg was under 2x40w flourescent tubes until 5 internodes, then under 1X250MH until 10" total height.
Nutes were good compost soil, beneficial fungi, fish emulsion, plus some fox farms grow big fed foliarly.
Lower-than-average stretch, and I saved a male for future breeding.
Nice wide fans, perfect Christmas tree form on the ones that didn't get topped.
The girl in the pic is 4 weeks in and has a beautiful frosting on ALL the single-blade leaves. She smells nice too.
She's doubled in height since 12/12
I haven't harvested any of the Afghan princesses yet, but I will let you know!!! They're definietly wearing sticky headpieces!!!

They're 2 months from seed as far as I can figure, I went to Toronto the 1st week in August and sprouted them the next weekend.
Yup, those are the pots I like. The stores don't carry them except for the growshop, but they DO keep them around for their own use. So I just asked the lady at the nursery to buy a bunch of pots off here and she charges me 25 cents each! :D
I think 4-1/2x 6" tall.

Hey, it was a close call man. I'm on exile from my "real" grow op until I can ditch my tenant. Ive got a huge-assed 2 room setup plus potting space and a water supply in the cellar, with a walk-out to the vegetable garden, that was producing like a mofo before my tenant got robbed and I got totally sketched out. They were just after cash, and never found the grow, but I decided to temporarily move to a more secure location.
But I do look forward to getting back down there and messing around with hydro again, just for giggles. You should see how totally lame my hydro table was, and how surprisingly well it worked!!!
-
Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
All right, questions answered- check.
Update:
godbud x are growing remarkably well. Growth is even- the plants look IDENTICAL!
Papaya I'm a llittle mad at myself. They popped so fast and I missed getting a couple in dirt before the taproots emerged, and I'm afraid I may have damaged a couple of the longer, more vulnerable ones. It happens. But the survivors look fine and have 2 sets of adult leaves and a third starting to show.
There was nothing to harvest over the weekend because the ones that were supposed to be done have decided to sprout donkey ears like a mofo. The temps are finally down in the 70s and my plants are thanking me. I spent half an hour this morning staking buds that had collapsed under their own weight overnight!
And the next seeds getting germed as we speak are...
White Rhino!!!!

Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
Happy CANADIAN thanksgiving everyone....
Cool Thx for the Pot Info Stinky, I actully thought those pots were bigger. I have a set of 8 of that size pot. that isn't the pot size you use through the whole grow is it? How tall are your plants right now? Can't that pot only really only fit a good plant till about half a foot tall?
Or I guess a better questions to ask is how tall do you let your plants go in those pots? Will you do your Bog plants right through your whole grow in that size pot? 6" by 4.5 Wide. Thats like half a gallon eh?
I would love to use those in my Cab, I could fit way more. I just assumed it was too small to house a 1ft to 1.5ft plant.
justa side note. I think I can see the seeds starting to build on my Sexing operation I have going. The flowers are looking very unfamiliar more spiky looking than Bud looking. Ill post some picts hopefully tonight.
thansk for everything

Thanks for all of the info MAM. Keep me posted on the Middle Eastern ladies.
What BOG seeds are you growing? Are they from the "Bushy Old Grower" who had seeds on IC Mag?

-
Miss Stinky's First Grow Log =p
KD- I keep the kids in those pots right up through sexing. They usually max out at about a foot by that time and have not got too rootbound by then. Then they go into 3 gallon square utility pails that I got from a Mexican restauarant. They came full of delicious local sour cream.... mmm....
Bear- The BOG seeds came from Sacred in Toronto. They are BOG mix, plus Smashberry which is a 'plan B collective' product that the Bushy Old Grower was involved in. They look beautiful, and the guy at Sacred was nice enough to let me hand-pick the seeds from their stock.... needless to say, I got 100% germination and 100% survival!
Update- 3/10 White Rhino seeds popped last night.
Nothing to harvest yet, and my veg room is getting backed up as a result! I've got small pots of sexed plants stacked on top of the big pails in the flower room waiting for buckets to become available!!! The next harvest is gonna be a sweet one.
In the meantime, I'm just doing a little cleaning and reorganization, and I added a couple CFLs to the seedling area.
Temps in the last couple days have been 69-86F, and humidity 35-45% RH. Nobody seems to mind the fluctuation though.
