dont want any newb answers to my Q
Based on experience and reliable sources is there any problem with pruning (cutting fan leaves off)?
imo if the leaf is blocking light to branch growth it would be more benefitial to cut it. and if its not getting any light then its useless and just wasting the plants energy to keep it alive.

No.. plants don't waste energy.. they use whatever they can get. Cutting the leaf off may open up a lower section for more light, yes.. but it will stress the plant to cut parts of it off..
If you do decide to prune fan leaves off.. do one at a time.. every few days.. never cut more than 2 fan leaves off in a day.. as it really is unnecessary.
What do you think the plant uses to catch that energy from the light??
The Fan leaves..
Try tucking.. and tying.. you can manipulate the growth of the plant just as well and not worry about cutting parts of it off before it's time to.
Hope this helps,
Bob.

Cutting a healthy leaf is never a good idea it's only hacking up a good plant.
If you want more light to the lower parts ad some side lighting. Tuck them back out of the way but the plant still needs them. They store food in the fan leafs and the fan leafs are used to regulate the internal temperature of the plant. They do play a very important part in the over all health of the plant.
Sorry but your conclusions are wrong about how beneficial fan leafs are.
The choice is yours.
The only time its ok to cut them off is the last 5 day's before harvest by this time the plant is done and you are just waiting for the Trichomes to finish.

I find it;s best not to trim fan leaves at all, especially if they are healthy and green. The only time I find to remove a fan leaf is when it is dead and is no longer useful, other than that, nah.
Like people have said, it stresses out the plant. Also, during flowering, the plant uses its stored energy that are within the fan leaves to create buds. Less fan leaves=less energy for buds which can = less yeild.
BobBong is right, tie or tuck the leaf/leaves instead
Be nicer next time. We are all learning in one form or another, and to single out one another is not respectful because after all, you're a newb too. ;)

I think though that as with all information on a forum, you have to educate yourself just enough to be able to sort out the reliable information from all the piles of horseshit.

imo...you sound like an ass...but the fact is that you dont want to prune....tie them off...and if it dies...PULLL it off....its really simple...ass

Sheesh, what's up with the undercurrent of hostility? Smoke some pot, people! ;)
I don't tend to cut off fan leaves, if there is any way I can avoid it, which there almost always is. Occasionally, later in flowering, I will remove some mongo fan leaves if they're seriously preventing light from reaching another plant, but mostly I just let them fall off on their own schedule, and that's always worked pretty well for me.

Cut the whole plant down and never grow again with that attitude I
don't want you as a fellow grower. If you wanted expert advice look

Hold a grudge if you want, but making a post titled the way that
you did discrediting people that might want to help you right off
the bat is no way to be.
And how can you tell experts from others here judging them by
mere words typed on a screen? Like I have said in other post
on the grow forums it is best to look up the answers yourself
then ask the opinions of other growers here if you are still unsure.
People are more than willing to help others out here.
Looking back at my post I was a bit harsh in my reply and I
apologize for that but the way you posted that just struck a
nerve in me like you were saying that there are people that
are lesser than others here.
Good luck on your grow ....read read read then read some more
the FAQ is full of info and just try to form you questions in a
manner that don't make others here feel as if they are lower
on the poll than others and you wont get such hostile replies.

i was jk i am personally unable to hold a grudge, no matter how hard i try i cant keep being mad, which is a good thing i guess. Like i said sometimes things come out wrong which is y i dont like when people jump to conclusions and assume im putting people down because then i seem like someone im not.
ill unofficially retitle it "dont want any opinionated answers to my Q"
because when people post opinions when your not looking for opinions then someone will put something dumb like my opinion in my original post which turned out to be completely wrong.
sry for watever
-
dont want any newb answers to my Q
yeah i agree with bob bong and zandor
dont cut the leafs off if they are healthy this is just limiting the ammount of light that it will take in and could stress the plant
cheers all :)

i alrdy cut the ones off the main stem before i posted but now i know and i wont cut more of them
-
dont want any newb answers to my Q
I don't think it matters to cut one or two leaves out that are shading. If you take into account nature, plants lose leaves all the time, its just the volume of what you remove needs to mimic that in nature. I don't think going mental on the pruning is good for obvious reason, likewise, I don't think its right to go to the other extreme and remove nothing, under any circumstances. Removing something that won't be absorbing much light and therefore having much use can only help the plant opperate more efficiently. You just have to exercise good judgement and restraint, that goes for the overall thread as well.

I can understand where a lot of these people are coming from. I first read this forum a bit ago when it was first posted, and I have to say that I agree it was offensive. Maybe it was just your wording, or maybe it was your attitude. Who can say for sure? I can say that the way you came off in this thread seemed a bit cocky and above others. I sneered, said a snide comment to myself and moved on down the thread. I read someone say " I hope noone answers you" or something to the affect, and I must say that I agreed. Maybe wrong of me, maybe right of me, but, none the less you get hositility because you came with hostility. Just keep that in mind fro the future and you should be ok....
PS maybe think about changing your handle if you want a fresh start....

I was going to post a reply, but its all been covered. Cutting= stunt in growth and unneeded stress.
Btw, if you want answers you may not want to sound like such a dildo...

Actually checkmark, if YOU would have read my entire post here, it states that I first read your thread when it was first published here, and obviously I read the continuance as well otherwise I would not have had a reply to that continuance. Seriously M8, such a hostile and angry reply was certainaly not warranted as I was being friendly and giving friendly advice as to why even I was offened, not everyone else..Me.
I simply stated that I understood where they came from in being upset because when I first read it,I too was a bit annoyed. when I continued to read it, I was a bit annoyed.
It seems that you have completely misunderstood my intentions and again snapped back with hostile word fire, which really just made my case here.
I do not believe that I EVER said anything to you about being an asshole or was mean at all for that matter. I DID READ every post Checkmark, and I eluded to that in my post.
I wasn't saying that you had to change your handle, I was just simply trying to help.
Just think about this,...... If your very first encounter with something was not such a great one, albeit misunderstood, or intentional, you will be more likely to avoid such things...right? I was just saying that if you are not the person that you are even still coming off as, give yourself and all of us a fresh start, because we will be more likely to avoid a situation such as this again. It isn't about bad or untrusting, misunderstanding people.....It is human NATURE!
Good Luck

but titling a thread the way you did will only invite the "newb's" as they're only trying to impress anyway...so it defeats the purpose. someone above mentioned something about a little self-found knowledge is needed so one can discern the bullshit from useful info...which is damn sound advice!
and yes...errr, no...don't pull any healthy leaves. i don't and you shouldn't either...and it looks like none of the experienced growers suggest doing it either. (seems like this question pops up every month or so...might be a good sticky thread...where it probably already is...)
