Soft white cfls again?

I don't mean to obsess about this shit but I just wanna do the best I can and want to avoid hassles before they happen. I kinda started out bad. I was trying to veg using 4-42W soft white cfls, was told I was fucking up, went and got cool whites, and my grow improved. But my babies are only a week old so not much yet anyway. I just spent hours searching for info about the soft whites. GE just started marketing them pretty heavily but they don't talk about the kelvin temp a lot. The cool whites I bought (I got 6 of 'em going by the way) are GE and list the kevin temp (6500k) but the soft whites don't. From what I found I think those 42W GE soft whites are 2700k which is good for flowering but I'm just not sure. Does anyone know the kelvin temp GE soft whites?

They are not 27K The warm are. Just stay away from those Soft whites IMO and in everyone else's opinions also from everything that I have ever read related to using them on this plant.

yes soft white are the warm yellow tint bulbs,now remember cool white are not soft white;cool whites are those daylight,full spectrum and sunlight bulbs and they are for vegging:thumbsup:also soft white can be 2700k i know they are warm color k bulbs

BlueBear iv got the exact bulbs that ''qdavid'' is talking about and im getting 3 1/2 ounces per plant .So why should people stay away from them?. I veg and flower with these bulbs and at day 14-16 my plants are at there 5th-6th nodes?

You are right if they are the 2700K then that is the warm, but the real soft are not 2700k, but then again I guess that different bulb makers lable them differant. I guess that the bottem line is that folks need to pay more attintion to the K than anything in some cases. Come to think of it the CFL's in my veg/mother cab said something like "spring warm" or something and it threw me off untill I read the K.

im not sure if its exacly 2700k but im sure its close
and they're good for flowering :thumbsup:

The warm spectrums I'm using when I get to flowering are 42Watt, 2600 lumens and are also 2700K.

That said, the more I've thought about it, the more I think that when you say you're using soft whites people think of incandescents. Because the soft white CFL's all seem to fall at the 2700K mark, and that should be just fine for flowering.

I finally found the definitive answer for FLE42HLX/2/XL/SW. A brochure published by GE states "all bulbs are 2700-3000k unless stated otherwise on the packaging." So I guess I'm good to go to use them for flowering. Like there was ever a doubt in this feable mind.

i just bought 4 32 watt softs to go with my 26 watt cools and take out my 26 watt warms the wierd thing is you guys say soft white is warm white its putting off a blue tint well these 1's are putting off a really soft blue tint not bright at all is that good for veg or should i stick with the warms to mix with the cools??? it actually says soft warm white.. sooo should i just stick with the regular warms?? they put off more ligth for sure...

It was my first indoor, but i had read a bunch beforehand. What i found while i had a grow in the make was that mixing spectrum's seemed to make my plant grow better. I started with just one 26w cfl to veg my seedlings, then added as i needed. I found that mixing 26w, which said 1750 was lumen and 23w, which said hell i forget, sorry. but they were 27k and the 26w was like 35k. But under lighting section a sticky said that you can count lumen's by 69.9 lumen's per watt. This is what i went by and i ran 278w of cfl's. Good enough for 4-5 plants IMO. I have not completely harvested, but im very happy with the grow. The log is in this section, it went through some shit, but in all im pumped, check it out, it will help ya with a set up idea. Also, a mix spectrum i believe is best. Even if i had an hps id throw in a few cfl's to cover lower portion of the plant.

Just to throw in my two cents... I have NEVER seen a soft white bulb that wasn't 2700k. I know for a fact GE's soft white are 2700k, its what I'm using right now. It should say the color temp on the ballast.

I'm not sure about cool whites or warm whites, but I know that day light cfl's color temp varies from company to company.

Either way, making sure you have the correct color temp is a good idea.

The Warm Whites are 2700K

The Cool Whites are 4000k

The Bright Whites are 5000-6500k

Yeah the soft white iv seen were 27k, but as the light get farther from the plant you lose lumen, also i dont by into what a package says. Thats way i go by the 69.9 idea. And your so right about the different companies having different color temps. I think its crap too, if your used to buying a certain light and dont look at the temps, ya get ripped.

This looks to be about perfect:thumbsup: In less ya get some cheapy ones and then id pay attention to what the box says. But i still luv cfl's for sure:jointsmile:

I started with a single 2700K at seeds. Then used 4 T12 grow tubes for a week. Then added three 5000Ks after about a week. Then added four more 6500K after another week or so.

During all that I read and read about CFL growing. Seems 6500K is best to veg, 5500k is acceptable too. 5000k are sold everywhere and do ok, but are not the best.

Then 2700K for flower is the way to go.

Often I found NO K rating on the bulbs. With serious searching though, I did find the 6500Ks. So I just kept adding bulbs until it didn't stretch any more. With all I have over mine now I figure I'm as "full spectrum as CFL can get. :thumbsup:
