I watched it.. and wrote them a letter.. There was a lot of bullshit science within it. it was pretty much a scare tactic. I was hoping there would be some NEW information in it, or at least something good, but there wasn't. I thought the show was good but also depressing. Except for the special effects, which they used to graphically show some of the means of planet destruction, it wasn't all that sensational, I thought. Sure, the concepts themselves were scary and grabbed your attention. But they grounded all of what they said on how unlikely those scenarios are, at least during our lifetimes. Some of them, like an asteroid hit or a supervolcano or a black hole, might be possible within 10,000 years, they said. When it ended, I felt depressed but also fairly safe in the knowledge that I won't witness planetary destruction other than what we do to the planet ourselves in the form of global warming. That was the number one threat, and it's closer--and more certain--than any other threat we face.
I thought the strangest part about the whole show was the fact that it was hosted by Elizabeth Vargas, pregnant as can be, doing her last on-air work before going on maternity leave. It struck me as strange that a woman a month or so away from bringing a new life into the world would host a two-hour feature about the end of our planet. Seems like Barbara Walters would have been a better pick. At least she's closer to the jumping-off place!
Very well put birdgirl73. I think they were just trying to tell people to be a little more considerate about the planet we live in. Most of the other scenarios, as stated, are very improbable. As for global warming, we are already seeing some effects of it all around the world. I don't need a scientist to tell me this. The show was kind of interesting though. ;)
There actually is a rock heading our way, but they've pretty much ruled out its hitting us, although it will come fairly close (quite a bit closer than the Moon, which isn't all that far itself). But even if it did hit, it wouldn't wipe out the planet, or even knock us back to the Stone Age. It isn't big enough.
Eventually a big rock will hit us though. 'Eventually' might be a long time, but still, one WILL hit us, which is why I'm a big proponent of establishing human colonies elsewhere than this planet. Odds are that we'll do ourselves in though, rather than have some natural disaster cause our end. Nuclear war, climate change, destructive nanobots turning the world into sludge, some crazy deadly virus we cook up, something like that.

We only watch about 10% of the sky at any given time... meaning an asteroid could sneak up on us(espically from behind the glare of the sun) and we may have as little as a week before impact. There is also a volcano on the island of La Palma called Cumbre Vieja, and possibly the next time it eruptes half of the island will slide into the Atlantic sending out a massive Tsunami with wave heights as high as 500 meters when the reach the US east coast.

I didn't catch it, but I'm sure it's the same as everything else. Global warming blah blah blah.....asteroids blah blah blah....It's all the same. The world will end eventually. No use worrying about it, the fact that we thin we might be able to stop or change the natural cycle just shows our arrogance. If I had to choose, I'd have to bet on either asteroids or gamma rays. Either way, I'll be dead before I know what happened. I just hope I'm gone before the next global climate shift (its gonna happen). FL won't be so much fun when its frozen over.

ummm sorry apocalypse does mean earth will end...if you read the book of revelations..you would know that God only destroys the evil on this earth and not the earth itself.....You need to study a little deeper into the greek language to understand that ummm dont you know there are 3 heaven and earth ages??? we are in the second one the book of revelation teaches that this second earth age will pass away( the one we are currently in) also but not the earth or terraforma itself just this earth age then the third age starts ..ummm havent you ever read that christ WAS IS and shall BE thats for the 3 ages...ummm get some weed and be happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
