I am so stoked!

All four of my Redonda Red Hair (if that's really what they are) germinated in less than 36 hours. Ireally only want three plants but I plated them all. Now I only hope one of 'em's a girl. They're in 8" pots under four 42W cfl bulbs in a mylared cabinet. I also put in a little computer fan. It's only like 88 cfl? Anyway I plan on putting in a 150 fan sometime. The 88 computer fan I have is a little weak so I got a desk fan blowing too hoping to keep the temp less than 90F. By the way, sdhall I saw your posts. Good on you. I hope you got girls. I'll post some pics if anything sprouts.

Try to keep it below 85F.

I also meant to add, I bought a big bag of potting soil at Walmart. I buy my dog's food at a Dollar General (cause I kind of live in the boonies and it's closer). So I saw potting soil there and bought a bag. That stuff from Walmart was freakin' heavy. I filled each of my 3 pots about 2/3 full with that and topped them off with the stuff from the dollar store. I've got a lot of dirt left over, for next grow. It turns out that stuff from Walmart was pretty smooth and had some sand in it. But that stuff from the dollar store had perllite, rotting wood chips, and other organic crap. Then I put the germinated seeds in. I poured in tap water (it's well water) and soaked the soil good. Lots of water, but not mud. It's really hot here in Florida right now, but I'll try for 85F.

are ur cfls cool light?

Actually I don't really know what they are. I just grabbed what they had at Walmart, I threw out the package and didn't even look. It might say on the bulb somewhere but I ain't shuttin' 'em off to look. Kinda bright to try and see when their on.

aw david your fucking up already my brother! don't buy the 'walmart' special soil! especially at dollar general! And you gotta read the package on the CFLs do know how much wattage you got and how much more you need. around 30 watts per sq. foot is good, 40 is better.

You will alsop want to find out what kind of CFLs you got cuz the wrong ones at the wrong time can really Messs with your grow, You want 6500k For vegging and Lower 2500K for flowering,,

Or in Lamins terms Cool colour(White) for Vegging and Warm (OrangyRed) for flowering

read the Thread on Compact Flurocents It will really help then go to Walkmart website and find out what you gotzzz so you dont waste Time with those precious seedlings... And you want Cfls Close to your plants the closer the better 1.5 to 3 inches at all times of the grow

I wrote 42W but I guess I was fucking up.

I've done a lot of reading from a lot of different sources, including that cfl grow sticky before I went ahead with this. That's why I got four 42W cfl bulbs putting out 10,400 lumens about 1.5" from the soil. Walmart doesn't sell light bulbs online so I pulled one and it just says 42W helical. I'll look at the store sometime. I'll investigate that wavelegth thing but fact is fact, and opinions are like assholes.....everybody's got one, and they all stink. Thanks.

I did read the bulb package in that it said it uses 42W electricity but puts out light like a 150W incandesant. I think that'd work for a little(32'x27""x16") grow cabinet? So is that okay my brother, or am I fucking up already again? ..... Sorry about that.....I got a big mouth.

This bulb thing has me running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Mine are General Electic 42W cfl bulbs. After that, I don't know. I've searched the g.e. site, tried both yahoo and google and can't figure out if they're soft white, warm, or cool. I don't think g.e even distinguishes that. Maybe I can find some wavelegth info. But I guess I want cool to veg and warm to flower. I'll go to Wally World tomorrow and see if I can find out something there.

Crap, now I can't sleep cause I'm upset. But I decided what I'm gonna do about my lights. I'm pretty sure those four 42W ones I got going are soft white They were fairly cheap (like $8+) and there's these /sw letters at the end of the technical data info line on the balast. So I'll buy a couple cool whites and a couple warm whites with the highest wattage I can get. I'll run the 2 cools during veg and the 2 warms during flower. But I'll also keep 2 of the 42W beasts going at those times to keep intensity up. I think that'll work. Comments? Sorry about the earlier harsh posts. I really need to get this temper under control. It's gonna be the death of me.

My fault, I didn't see the 42w. And I know you apologized, but you really should do something about that temper, after all, all I'm doing is trying to help you! It's all good but you still want more than 10,400 lumens. As much as you get really, on a clear day the sun shines about 50,000 lumens. So as close to this as you can get. You can tell what kinda light you have (soft white, warm white, etc.) buy the color of the actual light comming from the bulb. Blue is cool, Orange is warm, White is neutral. 42w is fine. Get as many of these as you can. I use about 12. You also want to double the light in the flowering process. And still want atleast 1 warm in veg. and atleast a couple in flowering.

This is "wrong"...I use walmart 8 dollar cfl's no particular spectrum for all my cloning and early rooting and have seen as good or better success than with my 250hps. The walmart cfl's are more on the blue/white side of the spectrum I would guess though...as are most fluoro's unless you spend the money for enhanced agri' cfl's. peace:smokin:

p.s. It is a misconception that you have to go through all that trouble to match spectrum for seedlings...Or, that you have to veg with MH and flower with HPS...It enhances the grow a bit, but from my experience, the plants grow great in either spectrum. there are still quite a few Northern and european growers that swear by MH all the way.

Don't worry about it David...You got some misleading advice...Grow with what you got, and if you have a problem...Shout out to me or Bobbong, and we will set you straight on your lighting. peace

p.s. I use general dollar store soil and add shultz peat moss and perlite from Wally's to the mix...50%/25%/25% good luck. Stop Worrying; And in the future you should be wary of taking all the advice offered to you. you have to wade through info, and decide from researching similar answers; Which answers are helpful to you and which to be wary of. you haven't really done anything wrong yet. I went and got 2 cool light cfls. I could only find 25W. My babies didn't sprout yet so I'm good. I replaced two of the 42W softs with the cools and you really can see the color difference. The new one's are whiter. I'll get 2 warms when I can find 'em and replace those cools for flowering. I also did some impulse buying cause I drove like 20 miles. I bought some fertilizer (30-10-10) for veging and this Triple Phosphate crap (0-46-0) for flowering. I plan to go real light with any nutes, maybe half they're suggested and I had planned on just using mollases solution once or twice during flowering, then nothing the last couple weeks. Think I still will. Just use that phosphate once or so. You're suppose to just spinkle the crap around.
I'm just trying to grow an ounce or two of medical marijuana. Might help my back pain (30% disabled). maybe mellow this morose attitude some and of course help my shiity ass temper. I ain't looking to grow no dro from a kick ass bubbler system. I'll just do whatever works keeping in mind it's my first go at this shit and I plan to keep this hobby going for awhile.

you also need a ph pen ahnd ph up/down. did you add dolomitic lime to your soil to buffer the ph and provide magnesium?

Actually had that domitic stuff along with a buch of organic, perlimite, and other stuff in the dollar store soil. I read where you use it too. It's good stuff, isn't it? Thanks for those earlier calming words, latewood. But I had already bought those cool whites by the time I saw it. The temp in the cab dropped a few degrees after I put the cools in, so overall , I think it's a good thing. I was under the assumption that ph checking was more of a hydro thing. Still important for soil but critical in water. But I'll check it though. Thanks.

:what: I'm sorry, but that is bad info...

1st) alot of seasoned growers including myself plant seeds right into dirt and get great results. There is no set way. Farmers and potheads have been placing seeds in dirt for hundreds of years. :rolleyes:

2nd) you want a fan on your seedlings, from the time thye pop their heads up. It helps to keep pests away from the young'uns and helps the stalk to grow stronger (kind of like excercise) :D

you should learn some more before you cut on somebody like that...peace:smokin:

i usually grow hydrophonics its just the way i do things,

and ive done soil too,
you dont have to germinate the seeds but it would be faster

and if you dont want insects then get insecticide and im sure they plants arent going to be crawling with insects the second they sprout up..

a fan on a little ass plant that just came up could bend it and make it grow the wrong way, you could give the fan at least a week or 2...

do what you want...

Get like 4 of those, and you should be able to grow nicely

There's nothing wrong with planting seeds directly in the soil if that's your personal preferance. Also having a fan on the seedlings as soon as they pop can cause servere windburn, I've seen young seedlings where the embryonic and the first true leaves have literally been blown to one side, should be noted that a very slight breeze is all that's needed, if the stem and leaves are flickering your blowing too hard.

I appreciate everybody's advice. Really. But I never said I germinated in soil. I did the paper towel method. All four germinated. They're in dirt now. All four sprouted too. And I also wrotebefore I bought a couple cool whites. Just don't poke the bears I guess is something else I got n(right Dutch?). Ain't it funny just about anything one guy'll say, then another will say something completely different? Whatever works I guess. Strange. But I like strange.

You are on the right track...
here have one or 2 piks for motivation...my xmas Misty blue, and what you can do in a 10g tubbler...pik2 is of Misty Blue clone in DWC. both clones were rooted and then planted the one in my special orchid mix, and the other in a 10 gallon tubbler:)

both were grown using ROwater...3-part,...Hygrozyme,...
Liquid Karma,...Humic Acid,...and BudBlood/BigBud, superthrive. I might've had some VooDoo juice at this time also...I haven't been able to afford that all year though:(

I think you are better off putting seedlings in a 1 gallon, then transplanting at transition to 3 gallon.

Now in your current case;
A med grower/licensed caregiver...gave me a great tip once.She moderates at another MMJ site. anyway, She told me to get a good bag of soil and when you pop rootball out of current container...You place right into bag of soil...1st cut a X in the bag big enough for the plant to fit in...dig out some soil to make a place for the rootball, then put plant in and water* with ph'd water with superthrive...you can even sprinkle some rooting powder in the hole before setting plant.
(you have to poke some holes in the bag also with a screwdriver or something for drainage...So, get a low profile dish tub or something to catch your run-off) I bought a set at the dollar store for oddjobs, when I have to catch water in a pot and don't have the appropiate vessel. Hope this helps.

Using this method will allow you to transfer the plant easily...IN fact, you mentioned a grow bag...Hell yeah you can transplant...just set the whole bag in a bag of soil and carefully cut around the bottom of bag and weLLaa...you can leave it sit right there...peace
