First time grower- outdoors
Hello all,
Well I can't find a good dealer, so I want to grow my own plants  I have a great spot in my backyard, there is this bamboo forest that obscures the view of a nice river. I will take pics tomorrow and post them here so you guys can tell me if it's a good spot. Well obviously I have some questions-
1. Is something like this a good way to start, and can I trust this site? I don't have any seeds on me..
2. So it's almost September, I live in southeastern PA. It gets cold (55-65F) around the start-mid october. Am I going to have enough time to harvest them, or will they die if it gets below a certain temperature?
3. I am 16 (almost 17) and live with my parents, I'm not really worried about anyone finding the plants but I'd like to start them outside if at all possible (planted in the soil). Would this method work instead of starting them inside, then moving them?
4. I've read that I should soak the seeds for a day then plant in the ground 1/2inch deep? correct?
5. Well I'm no gardener, so I could use some tips on what to give them each day if this works. Water and how much, fertilizer, etc
I basically need all the help I can get, if I get some positive feedback on whether or not people think it's too late in the year I guess I will get something from that site.. I would love to talk on AIM with someone about this, if anyone has some time to spare give me a pm ;) edit: so there's no pm's here, well if anyone can talk on aim let me know.

You're WAY too late.
Better luck next year.
BTW there's always a drought around here in late August before the Canadian outdoor starts coming down next month... plan ahead and stock up in July!

Damn, that sucks. Well, maybe I will try anyway? I found a couple seeds in my dresser.. (don't ask..)
How long do they last?
First time grower- outdoors
They'll be fine for spring.

Cool, I'll just leave them in my drawer then. Guess it's best to do it right.. I've read all I can find and it honestly doesn't seem that hard..

ok so I've decided to grow a plant or two in the closet in my room at my dad's house. We already have 4 multi-gallon buckets, a huge package of miracle-gro soil with peat moss, the closet is perfect (painted white, it goes far to the side so if opened you won't see the plant, and has one of those white things to put clothes on and hang stuff from). And the room is usually pretty warm even when the heat isn't on since it's the third floor, and decently humid (i've read to keep it between 65-80%).
Not to mention no one goes up there. So all I need are 2 or 3 of these and I'll be good. I'll take it from here guys, and probably screw up

Rule #1 of growing:
Tell no one.
Exception to rule #1:
Get the homeowner's permission first unless you have a legal lease agreement with said homeowner.
You do not have a lease with your parents.
Therefore if there is an accident and your grow is discovered, guess who takes the heat?
You got it. THE HOMEOWNER.
So for God's sake don't grow in the closet in your parents' house.

I guess that does make sense.
But honestly, there is no way ANYONE would find it except for a 1% chance of my dad. It is his house, I live with my mom, and he is not home 90% of the time. There is a concealed basement door that I could use when going in, so no one would have any idea that I'm in there. Not to mention my room is the loft on the third floor, with only a bed in the middle and the mirrored closet on the far side of the room. The last time anyone's been in there besides me is when my dad and I put together the bed up there a year ago.. and the only windows are on the ceiling, not visible from ANYWHERE (trees basically cover them) so light leakage is not a problem.
Also hardly any electricity gets used, obviously because of the fact that we are never there. Then there is a big spike for a week or two when we are there. Running 2 or 3 flourescent bulbs can't cost more than $20 a month, not suspicious at all, and to take care of the power requirement I will just leave him a $20 on his money pile once a month, won't know the difference.
Also we live in a rather rich area, lived here for 3 years and I've never seen a cop around here. We barely see people outside either, and houses are pretty spread out (my mom and dad live within an eighth mile..)
I see what you're getting at, and if I thought there was any chance of it being discovered, trust me I wouldn't do it. But what you're saying honestly just doesn't apply to my situation. I appreciate the help though :)

well all i can say is i have 2 flowering plants and they stink up the entire basement like someones down there toking away youll only get away with it for so long

thanks for the warning.. if closing the door and closet door, + opening the 2 cieling windows doesn't stop it, then I'll have to take it outside or get rid of it..

Arrrgh. It's about RESPECT, man, not whether you can get away with it.

You're absolutely right. I'll have to think about whether I will do it or not based on that.. such as whether or not it's really such a bad thing. Think about it- no harm would go to my dad due to me growing something in his house. If we all gave our parents 100% utmost respect, we wouldn't do anything they don't want us to.. which is kind of rediculous, when you look at the expectations of some parents. They can base their expectations on the world they grew up in, which just doesn't work today
