i jus got a 60-100x pocket microscope from radio shack...now what is the best way to check them...by puttin it up to tha plant n lookin (which i am havin a hard time doin :P) or to cut a piece off and look(some one had said to do that) but would it stunt it or hurt it in some way?? thnx

you need to turn off your fans and stabilize the scope. I use a camera tripod and duct tape the scope on. You can fashion a variety of stabilizers from a variety of household materials; long as you have duct tape your set.
Snip the smallest sample possible, off a bud leaf. Put it on a white paper plate. If you cut it small enough. the microscope will fit over it. No matter how small you cut it, you will still have to move the microscope around to view it all. You can take micro-samples all over your crop. (P.S...don't get resin on the lens- don't use rubbing achohol to clean lens)..60X is ideal.Quote:

You have to take a sample from the bud, its best to place it on a all blue surface. I told you it would be damn near impossible to see what you need to see on the plant, which by the way your most likely rupturing all kinds of trichomes while doing...(don't you listen!?)
...why put a sample on a blue surface?....with a pocket microscope, that has a light blub for illumination? True..true..I do get fucked up.
trichomes show up better on a blue surface. There was an article in Red Eye and Weed World a few months back about a micro photographer, that was taking photos more than 100x. Photos of single trichomes, truely incredible stuff, anyway he's the one that discovered that. Also red works good too but not as well as blue. I was skeptical at first also but then I tried it and it does really make a world of difference. ;)

you have to have actually bud, a few calyx's with leaflets, to get an accurate reading.
this thing is great!! have to play around wit ;) i took a piece of bud that i got to try it out and f*kin awesome..i also trim a leaf us to c but jus a bunch of dots...im tryin to take pics using the microscope so i can post em on here for yall, its a lil tricky but its def doable.....so u say to trim a piece of the bud wit cal and leaflets will that hurt the plants in ne way? do i jus clip it right t the stem at the bottom of the bud site or...????sry...im jus tryin to learn and figure this stuff out and so i dont f*k ne of them up ya know... ;) thnx....Quote:

Just grab the bud from behind and stabilize it against the scope. Make sure the battery is good, because those rat shack scopes drain the battery fast - and a low battery will give you a false reading. As far as clipping bud, I would not do that, if you like to look often.

'preciate the info....i got a few pics for every one to look at and let me know what ya'll think.... they look more clear to me...a couple of red/amber ones......some 1 jus told me that they start off cloudy, then slowly clear, then turn and amberish color(like tha pistils do right?)...is that about right??? u want no cloudy ones right?? jus clear and amber color....more amber-higher potency,couch lock effect high......1/2-1/2 to more clear-more "up" high?? that sound right?? thnx....:D :stoned:
the stages are: clear, milky, amber, in that order ... Clear trichome = THC not yet at its peak ... Cloudy, milky trichome = THC peaking, head high ... Amber trichomes = past maturity, body stone, 'couchlock' ... I prefer a 'head' high, so I harvest when I get about 5% amber trichomes, then I have a nice (for me) balance ... experiment to find what you like ... harvest some buds at each stage, and label them, for later identification ... :smokin:
cloudy is what gets u high man...i harvest 80%-95% cloudy...

first off, props for takening photos that look have decent through that scope, I honestly didn't think it was possible...you proved me wrong. Second, it goes from clear, cloudy/ milky, amber/ golden. He got that part right. But as far as effects. Clear, is pure THC, you will want to harvest your sativa or sativa dominant plants at this point to truely feel the best effects of the sativa high. It will be cerebral and a head high. Cloudy is starting to convert to CBN has a balance of high and body, harvest your hybrids at this point for a pretty even mix. Amber most of the THC has coverted to CBN and CBN's lesse psycoactive ingredient that I forget what its called right now. Couch lock, body high the best kinda high for pain relief. Harvest your Indica or Indica dominant plants at the point for the most couch lock/ pain relieving high. Your last set of photos look pretty good, lots of Capitate Stalked Trichomes, a few are getting ready to 'burst' with heads developing a little point meaning there packed full with THC and very easily ruptured. I'd say you have less than a week, to know for sure your going to have to nip a few calyx's off the top of the cola!

just dry it out well, no point in curing such a little sample, and smoke it. And yea a little piece of bud. Also theres tons of information and dis-information going around the cannabis community in general. I speak only from first hand experience of over 25+ years the only information I will pass on is that which I know to be true, not just because I read it somewhere it must be true, because as you 'grow' in this game. You'll realize even the top 'cannabis experts' will completely disagree on some aspects and its your responsiblity to find out whats the truth. I say only the truth my friend. Thats great, thank you for your thanks, lol. Theres nothing that makes me happier than to help others to grow the best herb. Yes I too had trouble determining the color of trichomes at first. The best way is to look at them from the beginning of budding til harvest. (which of course you didn't have the option of doing this time) Also the issue of Weed World I believe it was 61 or 62 that had the micro photos of trichomes in different stages will help you alot. You might try to find something on it somewhere on the web. Its alot easier to judge when you have something to compare too. I would think the would be ready too as your strains are both indica dominant and 70 days is a bit long for a indica dom. hybrid. Again happy harvest. ;)
