Holding large hits:

Is not a good idea.

Wikipedia entry say "A study has shown that holding cannabis smoke in one's lungs for longer periods of time does not conclusively increase THC's effects."

yea i never really hold it in for longer than 5 seconds.

as a musician, i make 4 counts for a full beat...but before math i hold in in for Pi seconds, because as everyone knows, its scientifically proven to make math more interesting that way.

I dont know about small shallow hits i like to take big ass gigantic monstrotic hits
but not hold them in long.

i'm farmiliar with the 5 second rule although i've heard that your lungs soak up the thc instantly meaning less than 5 seconds would also be adequate.

not sure about thc absorbsion rate but i hold for about 10 seconds always sometimes hold for up to 30 if i take a really fat hit. i have also noticed that the longer you hold it the redder your eyes get

if u wanna get higher there is a way i use wen i have hardly any weed, take a toke inhale lightly, hold it then toke it agen and repeat until u can't hold anymore, we call this ghosting it cause the smoke that comes out is thin

Oh at last, people are finally agreeing. I've been saying this all since day one. The longer you hold a hit, the more tar sticks to the lung lining, therefore abosrbing even lesss THC, concidering THC is abosrbed almost instantly, its a waste of time.

Yeah I heard about this a while ago. I only hold my hit's in for 3-5 seconds.

5 seconds is kinda long for me. I don't like to hold my hits at all, just feels unnatural, I just like to smoke, rather than taking a hit, and holding it, I'd rather take a hit, blow out, wait a sec, hit it again.

Maybe I should hold it a little longer, I barely hold it 2seconds.

i still hold my hits in for at least 7 seconds

i hold mine in for 3 seconds, about the length of a normal breath

you avoid a lot of the carcinogens this way, because as many have said the THC is absorbed instantly and the tar and other nasty shit gets exhaled before it can settle

Yeah I read somewhere maybe here a while back not to hold in for more than like 5-7 seconds, and I never do...If you need to try and get the little tiny bit more thc, your too desperate to get fucked. Even if it was true, the extra 20 seconds wouldnt be worth the damage and the tiny little extra bit of high.

Depends on how much you smoke at one time.

Bottom line, holding it in for more than several seconds is going to irritate your lungs more, and probably won't even make much of a difference in how you feel if you are smoking at least a bowl or two.

But try this some day (if you can lol)- take ONE hit and stop there. Literally one hit and hold it as long as you can. See how high you get. The next time you smoke (on a different day, make sure each time that it's the first smoke of your day), take ONE hit again, same size hit, same weed, same smoking method; only this time, hold it for just a few seconds. Tell me if there is not a significant difference in how you feel

It's all relative to the total amount consumed. The more you hit in one session, the less significant the gain from holding each one longer becomes.

Also, holding the hit may make some feel higher, but its infact oxygen deprevation. Once your done smoking whatever, just hold your breath...[With no smoke] and you'll see.

A natural breath is about 3 seconds, and thats all it takes. THC and lungs go hand in hand, made for each other.

I don't really care how many studies say what. All I know is if I hold in my hits for a good 10-15seconds, I get much more stoned if I hold it in for only 3 seconds. That's me, not their studies. :)

just get it all in and ur good :D

this is what works for me:
take a pretty large hit, release your finger off the carb when your lungs are 90% full, and then hold the smoke in, and take quick breaths in, like one or two will do, and then release after 5-7 seconds. I think the two quick breaths help.
