Well this gaseous waste would get piped from the units that make the chemicals to waaaay back to the back of the plant where no roads pass so no one sees that NOTHING grows there, where the pipe ends and gas is let out. Well what we did, as Jr. Stink Suckers, was to essentially put our mouth at the end of the pipe, and inhale what came out of it before it's let out into the atmosphere. I don't know what was in it, but it tasted like burning tires, and I remember the year I got that job was the year my body stopped growing. And I think it helped fuck up my teeth too.
I thought it would get better once I made Sr. Stink Sucker, but all that meant was that I get to make the schedule and assignments in the morning, decide which Jr. Stink Suckers are assigned to which pipes, and some other administrative and supervisory duties, but mainly you still get the end of a pipe most of the day because I'm a "working foreman" whatever the fuck that means, not a regular foreman like the carpenters and pipefitters have. It basically means I'm a glorified Jr. Stink Sucker... except now (as of sept 97) I make $5.15 an hour instead of $4.75 doing it.
Moral of the story? Work hard, dedicate, and really apply yourself, and one day YOU TOO might be pimping to work in a certified pre-owned 2005 Hyundai Accent.
