Pics 1-5 r NL x BB...i think maybe a couple more days..?? i think imma harvest the 2 NL #5(pics 6-11/6-8(1), 9-11(2)) tonite..then tha NL x BB this weekend...whats everyone else think...maybe do all 2 nite?? cant wait to b the grim reeper for these ladies... ;) it's almost sad..... :( but not as much as it is exciting... :D

thnx....well pretty much my judgement and from what ive read online for the flowering time...which the nl x bb is bout 2 wks past what ive read, and 2 me they dont look like they r done yet(couple more days), and from jus wha other say about 50-80% of pistils change color...i dont have a microscope to get an accurate reading, but will have one for 2nd go around, ive tried to use a mag. glass but it doesnt help ne...lolQuote:

Hard to tell the actual size of those buds, but Id say your going to keep more then a 1/2oz. Some of those buds are fluffy but some of them look pretty dense. As far as the harvesting...getting a 30x magnifier is really, not that hard. I mean unless you live in buttfuck nowhere...I dont see how its not worth the tiny bit of cash and effort to maximize the crop you spent so much time on.
RadioShack sells some cheap 60x handheld illuminated microscopes. You can get 30x jewelers' loupes on ebay pretty cheap. And some digital cameras are high enough resolution that you can get decent trichome pics with just the camera. I think it's around $20 for the microscopes, around $10 for a loupe, and cameras vary wildly in price (but I think Canon makes the best cameras).
koo..thnx guys...this pic is a couple wks old but can u tell jus by this closeup...like can u tell if its cloudy or clear or should i try another pic?....i put a mag glass in front of the cam and zoomed in a bit and thats the best i can do without a microscope well thats a clear pic ne ways...ill try another if some one can tell if its cloudy/clear...thnx
lol, you would have to be very familar with micro photography in order to take a photo for us to tell. Just go to radioshack and get you a 10 dollar handheld microscope, but I can tell you from your photo with the amount of pistils still white that you have between 1-2 weeks left on that bud. wait for most atleast 75% of the pistils to turn orange/ reddish brownish before harvesting. Your bud will be packing on the most of its weight between this time so don't get anxious. ;)
koo...i think imma head to RS in a bit...now do i need to check the chrichomes all over the plant?.... and 50/50 cloudy/clear of the entire plant, or...? and my other 2 plants r bout 65-80% amber..should i harvest them or jus wait to get that microscope...i just saw one on theit web site that was 60-100x for 9.99....go wit that? thnx :stoned:

Heh, cameras nowadays are amazing. I quit using my loupe. Here's a pic that came straight from the camera (a point-and-shoot Canon), no loupe, no microscope. I was stunned at how nice modern point-and-shoots are these days too.
damn...i wish my dig would get that good of a shot...when eva i zoom in its jus a blurr pic...was the lens real close too?
tru, although its very hard to tell from a picture because lighting, flash, etc can change everything, but they look pretty cloudy to me. Id give em a day or 2 more and go for it if your not going to get a microscope.
far as where to look, you want the majority of the top colas to be good. Obviously some of the lower buds wont be at their "full potential" but this is the sacrifice you sometimes have to make in order to guarantee your big stuff is prime. When I see about 25% amber on most of the direct light buds, is what I like.
PS. Growing is an amazing learning experience, always do experiments. You have 3 plants right? Well harvest 2 of first and let the other one go a few more days longer. When its all dried and cured, if there is a large difference, then you know to wait longer (atleast with that particular strain but in general too).
You'll have to take samples from each of the buds as it is pretty much impossible to see on the plant. And it will take some practice being able to see what you need to see. But don't worry eventually you'll get it. When you do it will be truely amazing to look at, almost like something deep down in the depths of the ocean. But yes, thats the microscope to get. Also make sure you have fresh batteries in it. Take your samples from the tops of the plant, as this will be the part ready first, (in most strains), like someone else said its all an experiment, you'll have to decide what you like best so harvest some and properly dry and cure it, at different stages. So you'll know next time when (around when and what to look for) to harvest the majority. The best time to harvest sativa or sativa dominant plants is when the trichome heads are bulbous but clear to cloudy. To take advantage of the sativa effects. For indica or indica dominant, just the opposite, bulbous almost bursting with cloudy to amber. And for hybrids, when theres a nice mixture of clear, cloudy and amber. By the way, no matter how long you wait, some trichomes will never change to cloudy or amber. Hope this helps you.Quote:
