Noob-built cabinet... The result
Alright, let's see what you think about my new construction...
My goal was to build a white cabinet that is not immediately visible when entering the bedroom, has room for app. 4 plants and does not make too much noise.
The blueprint: [attachment=o83008]
Materials:
Flake board 19mm
2x 900mm x 700mm (Top & bottom)
2x 1762mm x 700mm (Sides)
1x 1800mm x 900mm (Back)
2x 1800mm x 450mm (Doors)
Wooden frame - 35mmx35mm
4x 1692mm
2x 700mm
2x 830mm
Supporting column in the middle of the door 1cmx 4cm (ca.), 1692mm
- Ventilation/ Supply air (for door)
- 6 hinges
- Wooden screws
- Wood glue
- Screws
- Foam tape
- Wheels
- White primer
- White paint
- Black-and-white foil
- Neoprene cuffs
- Hooks etc.
The system:
- 410 m3/h ventilation
- 500 m3/h carbon filter
- Industria 400W HPS
- Relaix clock timer for ventilation
- Dimmer for ventilation
- additional ventilator on ground
Building the cupboard:
I asked to have the wood cut to size in the DIY store and brought them home with much difficulty. The frame I only had app. the right size, wanting to cut it to the correct size when at home.
First I connected the frame to the top and bottom, leaving 19mm on each of the sides to ensure space for the sides. The frame was forst connected with wooden screws, then placed on the top piece of wood and attached by drilling through the frame into the wood, adding glue and wooden screws. I then turned the whole thing around and added regular screws form the other side.
I did this for the top and bottom, then took the muffler to draw the correct size hole and cut that out, followed by attaching the wheels to the bottom.
The wheels (too small): [attachment=o83010]
Then I started on the sides. Since I was working on my own, I again attached theframe directly to the sides, preparing wooden screws again on the end pieced to be able to attach it to the top frame later. In one of the sides I added the passice intake ventilation.
Passive intake: [attachment=o83012]
I then sorted all pieces so that the back side was on top and put the four sides together - first with wooden screws, then with regular screws attached from the outside, making sure to hit the frame as well as the board.
The attached frame: [attachment=o83009]
Now I had a huge cupboard lying in my kitchen... a real monster... and I couldn't get it up on my own. Small weak woman etc etc etc - I eventually succeeded by leaning the thing against the door frame and stemming it against that. Never again!

thats a very good start, how long do you expect to be working on it before use?

Now all I had to do was attach the supporting column to the middle of the door and attach the doors.
I then painted everything inside and out, first with the primer and then with real paint on the outside - I didn't do the inside since I was planning to use black-and-white foil anyway.
When moving the cupboard to the bedroom, the first wheel broke of - it now stands on three wheels and a supporting piece of wood. Oh well...
I tackered the foil to the inside and attached foam tape to all the edges.
Electrical appliances:
This is where I had serious difficulties. First the materials didn't arrive in time, then I realized that I knew nothing of electrics... I ended up asking an electrician I knew to set up my ventilator with a dimmer - for my darkroom, you know, because of all the chemicals. :D
I wanted to support the vent with rubber bands etc, but it just didn't work - so now it is attached using the metal frame it came with.
The vent: [attachment=o83014]
Mounting the lamp: [attachment=o83013]
For the lamp as well as the vent, I just drilled holes into the wall, worked the cable through and attached the cable to the appliance within the cupboard.
And this is my cupboard right now:

Erros I made:
- No decent measuring when cutting the frame - kind of uneven in places.
- Wheels too small
- Hinges not exactly mounted
- Forgetting things over and over again, meaning I had to go to the DIY >5 times.
Still to be done:
- Decent locking mechanism for the door
- light trap for the passive intake
- Put in carbon filter
- Get moving ventilation
I need to increase the passive intake, I guess, since my temperatures are too high - increased intake plus moving vent should take care of that.
And for the ones that are interested in what I am growing... I bought Female Seeds, 2x Northern Lightx Ice plus 2x pure Ice. The ladies where set in jiffies on the window sill for 1 1/2 weeks and then moved into the cab - high time because they were growing too thin and tall.
I moved them to real pots on Friday, into prepared soil. They were under 24/0 for 3 days and now moved to 18/6 yesterday. They are getting root juice with every watering (they drink a lot right now) and then I'll see what else they'll need down the line.
And hopefully, one day, I'll be able to put them under 12/12 and harvest... :rasta:

Sorry, I added a second post to include all pictures... The cab is in use since Friday, and except for temperatures a little on the higgh side, I am doing fine.
Temp is now up to 89 Fahrenheit/ 31 Celsius with the door closed, 82/ 28 with the door open. I hope a second intake plus a moving vent will works wonders...

Nice cabinet, you are on the right path. You are learning from your mistakes. I have built 4 cabinets already and I learn lots from each build as I have made more mistakes than you can imagine. :D
If you are still looking to hang your vent (I'm guessing to reduce noise) try using small bungee cords it worked for me on one of my cabinets. First I used rubberbands, but then switched to bungee cords when the rubber bands broke. Sorry I only have a picture of the rubberbands.
Good Luck!

Cool-cab! I happened to do a diddo, almost. But not to be a smarty or nothun,ya ought to re-think your watts per sq.ft.At least up over 50 w.p.sq.ft. Mine figured like this...3.5 ft x4.25 ft=14.87sq.ft. I will be powering with 2-600watt digitals(lower-heat) thats 1200watts /1200w into the sq.footage is 80.69 watts per sq.ft. I fgured why not max the sh. out of it,for the bigger colas!! My-cab will surely need a good-sized a/c unit ducked in..ENJOY!!Medicinal-user....:D

No way I'm upping the watts! I already now have difficulties with the temperature! :)

Have you considered a heat shield between your light and your plants?
