I'm sure of it now - I harvested too soon

Agreed that was my first grow of last winter, a stealth CFL grow using Mango seeds (should have used Low Ryder - less fuss, less things to go wrong) so I wasn't 100% positive of when the buds were ready.

I still get a nice, mellow, relaxing buzz - litterally feel the tension melting away from my feet, shoulders, neck and back - and if I could get rid of the munchies I'd be a happy camper.

However, the shredded bud won't stay lit (the bud dried like 5 hours in a food dehydrator after a 7 day water cure), I can bong it but not roll it.

And I get consistent burn throat and coughing fits when I smoke that 'harvest' ... not good when you have athsma.

The water cure is supposed to make the smoke smoother; so I think the bud wan't ready yet when I harvested it ...

What do you dudes and dudettes think?

It won't stay lit because drying it for 5hrs is not long enough.

When the grass won't stay lit, it is a good sign that you didn't dry it long enough.

Did you dry it completly before water curing? Or did you just toss the fresh buds in a water cure and dry for only 5hrs?

Let your buds dry naturally. Don't use a dehydrator or microwave. Just put them in a dry room free of exess moisture, and let them dry.

It takes about 5-7days for my buds to dry about 90%, then I toss them in curing for another week or two before I smoke.

Let us know how you dried it all and for how long, and maybe we can help.

Grass not staying lit because it's premature has nothing to do with it. The buds aren't dried yet.

I don't remember - I might have thought they were ready because the buds were a mix of amber and white, which could be attributed to heat damage.

As far as letting the bud dry naturally in a dry room - not really an option in my case (trust me) :o So I'll just extend the dehydrator time ... 24 hours? 48 hours?

wtf dont use a dehyrdrator shit. hahahaha just put it in a paper bag(the ones from grocery stores) and dry it in there. then after that put them in mason jars for a cure

I don't know where this idea to use a food dehydrator comes from.. but it is by no means a "cure".

The Flashpoint (aka degredation temp) of THC is approx. 162 degrees fahrenheit... beyond that you're basically vaporizing THC.

There are many things to consider when harvesting.. and rushing it, is the LAST thing you want to do after spending months growing the plant.

I use a water cure (a trick I picked up from another forum, which is used by many other indoor growers) and use the dehhydrator to dry them, at lowest possible setting (98F)

Well... round these parts all grocery stores use plastic bags. Sorry. :p While your way is the 'traditional' way and works fine for you, doesn't mean there aren't other ways, used by other dudes out there ...just trying a method that works for me! ;)

Bad harvest...Bad cure.....Bad taste. It doesn't have to be that way.

the reason why ur harvest was so crappy is because u didnt properly dry it and properly cure it. i dont know why u went through all that trouble with the water cure and dehydrator stuff wen u can just throw them in some paper bags.

sorry about the outcome pedro but it almost all has to do with the way you cured it, The longer the weed is dried and cured the smoother and better tasting it will be. You dont want to waste all that time that you spent growing it and then just rush through the cure. even though its tempting spend another 2-3 weeks curing it it pays of in the long run :)

Well, I confess: after checking out pics of buds ready to be harvested, I can say in hindsight that I harvested just at the right time.


My main problems were: (hey last winter was this dude's first grow - give a dude a break meng! :p )

• insufficient drying time, and
• improper curing.

I'll have to revise my notes regarding water-curing - those who have used it claimed that it made for the smoothest smoke ever...the basic principle is that chlorophyl is water-soluble while THC isn't. 7 days submerged in tepid water (changing the water daily) seeps out the chlorophyl and leaves the THC behind.

The only complaint I read about this method is that water curing took away the flavour.

Watre curing can also help fulsh out any pesticides if you've used any. Perhaps the water I used was too cold?

Maybe using the best of all methods would work: water-cure for 7 days, dehydrate for 24 hours, then brown bag for 7 days. Then Mason-jar it for another week to 10 days.:confused:
