How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
This is my first grow ever and it's an outdoor one. My friend gave me this plant because he left the country and now it's been sitting on my porch for about a month.
It's in a spot where it gets the most sun possible. I've been watering it whenever it doesn't rain.
Now I noticed that it started flowering. Or at least it looks like it to me. Did it?
I attached some pictures so you guys can tell me how far it's along and how much longer approximately I should wait till harvest.
My guess is that it will need about another month outside. I checked a farmer's almanac and it says that here in Switzerland the 12/12 cycle starts in mid august.
Also, should I be worried about the yellow lower leaves???
Thanks a bunch and greetings from Switzerland!

Yep, its ddefintely flowering. Id say its in its 2-3rd week. expect it flower for 9-10 weeks depending on the strain, the it should be fully mature, and ready to harvest.
dont worry about the yellow leaves, those are the older ones showing age.

From the looks of it that is a indica dominate strain judging by the wider leaves and close internodal spacing... a good way to determine when to harvest is the hairs... when 1/3 of the hairs dry out and turn redd/orange the high will be a more clear cerebral high with alittle body high depending on the strain. The longer you let it mature the more lethargic the high will be... Its best to get it around 50% of the hairs dried to get a good mix of mental/physical high. If you are up to it the best way to determine when to harvest is to get a good strong magnifing glass and look at the little mushroom-shaped resin glands... At first they will be clear.. then turn white and cloudy and as it matures itll turn amber.. The key is to try to harvest when most of the glands are white... If you want a more couchlock high then wait until a few glands have turned amber, if you want a clearer less debilitating high then get it when alot of the glands are still clear and few glands are amber. The very tip of your main cola will ripen the soonest so check the lower buds too before determining the ripeness of the buds.

Thanks, I was wondering what strain this is. I'll get a magnifying glass. But how long in weeks? If you were to estimate?

Up until today I was very sure that my plant is a female. Especially since it was purchased at a store. But I just noticed a bunch of these growing below the flowers:

Yuo newbs need to learn to downsize your piks...It is hard on those of us that would help you and have the knowledge to help you...when you upload a gaint pik...personally I want to answer your Q's, but i will not waste time waitng for pik to load.
down size to 600x800 or less than 1mb if you want consistent help...peace
by the way...You DO NOT harvest off of the pistil's (hairs)...you look at the trichomes to determine maturity.
You need a 60-100x pocket microscope...Radioshack sells one for $12.00 US.
If you must harvest by the color of the hairs...wait untill the pistil's on your most mature buds are dying faster than new pistil's form on younger buds, then It is about ready...this method works as stated above, but It is not as accurate as reading the color clear/cloudy/amber of the trich's...latewood

How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
Yes that's how big she is now and I don't think she's getting any taller because she started flowering about 2 weeks ago.
I am concerned however because I am getting more and more yellow leaves on the lower part of the plant, slowly spreading to the top it seems.
A user told me not to worry about them but it doesn't look healthy. It's been raining a lot here lately, could it be from too much water? The plant is not droopy however....
Is there anything i can do about the yellow leaves? Should I cut them off?
Thanks in A

It wont stop growing taller just because its flowering.
As far as i know, from when flowering starts the plant can grow another 2/3 in height.
Im not saying its a fact, but when grown hydroponically my crop did just that.
Flowering started at 15" tall, and at harvest they averaged 45" tall.
Just thought you might be interested if you were assuming it wouldnt get taller..

Give it about 2 more months Solid Without moving it at all, but dont over water it. Try to get some plant food at your local garden or home centre. Water WELL 1ce a a week and Give plant food according to directions. ANYWAY, GOOD LUCK. :rasta:

WOW STOP ASKING WEN UR GUYSES PLANTS WILL HARVEST BY lol. u cant just guess like that. u need a handheld microscope to look at the thrichomes. thats the only accurate way of harvesting

My friend bought it at a store and then gave it to me because he left for a semester abroad. I was just trying to keep things simple. Anywho...about those yellow leaves.....?

How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
this must be around your first grow, patience is key to growing. You'll fuck yourself if you're not patient and wait until they're ready. Anyway, you still have a ways to go my friend. Most likely between 6-8 weeks. You bearly have buds there but around week 6 you'll really start seeing the difference. Best of luck my friend.

Yellow low leaves- plant is using up its Nitrogen stores. Leave the leaves on and let them drop off naturally so the plant can get maximum access to the stored nutrients.
For all the 'how long to harvest' questions... Flowering time can be anywhere from 6-12 weeks depending on strain. So from the day that you found the females, 4-10 weeks or so. Since most people don't have patience to grow a 12 week flowering Thai, and 6 weeks is not common, I'm going to put my money on 6-7 weeks after you find the girls, then get out there with your scope and look at trichs until your eyes cross.

How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
WOW! I was away for a week and just got back today to notice some very interesting, hopefully not terminal characteristics.
As you can see in the pictures the Swiss Lady still has a lot of yellow leaves. Supposedly due to flowering...... Now as if yellow and green aren't enough, I now also have purple leaves! What gives? I looked around a little bit and supposedly it is also due to flowering as well as cold weather. I think the coldest it got the last couple of days was 12 degrees celcius.
Only good news, the flowers have really multiplied and gotten bigger.
What do you say, does my Lady look unhealthy or will she make it to harvest?
Cheers guys!

I've just looked at your pics. This plant will be ready (Indica) by last week of September. Its normal for fan leaves to yellow during flowering as the plant uses its nutrients. If the plant is in a pot then you are going to have to supply some nutrients to maximize bud production. As for height, your plant will stretch once flowering starts (as you said, mid-August in CH) but by now it will not stretch anymore as bud production commences.
You can tell when its ready when the trichomes become cloudy. Watch for this carefully towards end -Sept by monitoring the trichomes with a x30 hand-held microscope. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then just pull your plant when the pistils (white hairs) begin to turn brown/red.

Noticed that purple leaves also have yellow spots on them! Anyone??

How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
alright seems like most plants will get this 'budding gitters' its not really a big deal for rookie growers,( no offence if you are or not), they'll start to act up a bit but don't worry about leaves now, your concern is about those buds! A few yellow leaves isn't anything to worry about could be that the plant is using up its stored Nitrogen, which is a good thing in mid to late flowering cycle. Or that it didn't have enough water to sustain all of its growth so it picked a few leaves it could get rid of, (you do know that plants use more water almost double in flowering). As for the purple is it below 60 F where this plant is? This will cause the purple condition your seeing, but it could also be caused by genetics or a nute defiency. She'll make it to harvest for sure. Just don't do anything to drastic and everything will be just fine. What week of budding are you on by the way. 4-5? And no I didn't see the yellow spots on purple leaves that you speak of.
-
How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
Thanks for the reply smoky, the yellow spots just showed up today and they're quite small. I will take a picture in time.
I'm pretty sure the plant is getting enough water. I always check to see if the soil is still wet and it's been pretty rainy lately.
It was 14 degrees celcius this morning, which is around 57 degrees fahrenheit. Is that too cold? I was told that they can withstand almost to frost, which is 0 degrees celcius.
The plant showed sex around the 20th of July. So it's been flowering for 4-5 weeks. How ready do the buds look? I was gonna give it another 2-3 weeks until i see some orange or red on the pistils.

How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
I've been getting a lot of rain. Is it really bad for the buds to get wet at this point in flowering?
-
How much longer till' harvest? You tell me!
Ha, I was correct about the flowering time, ;). No its not to cold, I've grown flowering plants successfully as cold as 32 F, but that much rain with cold will cause problems. ( mold, bud rot etc.) You will want to keep your buds as dry as possible. Whenever it rains, shake as much of the water of the buds as possible. Probably another 3-4 weeks, I would say closer to 4. So if its not lack of water thats causing the leaves to yellow and drop, its lack of Nitrogen, but its to late in the budding cycle to do anything about it now.

Here are some updated pics. The plant has turned even more purple, affecting lower leaves now as well. Please judge by the pictures and tell me what you think?

Nice plant. It looks like flowers are continuing to mature, so I'd say your plant should make it. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, yes it's a nice multicolored plant. Gonna give it 3 or 4 more weeks from now. I will update in time!
P.S. johneg, what looked like a male seed at the time actually turned out to be a female seed with a closed calyx, it opened up a couple days later. The plant is 100% lady.

you must wait for a certain period of time. a lot of depends on amount of sunlight(visible light) given to plant during the day(no more then 12h/day). well you must wait at least 7 weeks
