i got a stray cat/kitten, well, old kitten. and it i have been feeding it for weeks, it lives in my backyard. put up signs, asked everybody, it is no ones cat, finally when i bring it inside, it starts whineing like crazy, it wants to go out side, it is sitting in my window sill, meowing like it is mad. what should i do?
okay, it stopped meowing, and is now sitting on my lap, but its moving, and giving me the "hey i got somewhere to go pal!" kinda treatment, and now it is meowing again but less. okay, its walking over to the, wtf, where did this thing go now. ah, under the bed. wtf am i gunna do? i want to keep it. parents ok`d me keeping it too it is really skinny too, and i have been feeding it, and it is looking healthier, i will get a picture
He's just accustomed to being outside, it sounds like. If you keep feeding him and being sweet to him, he'll get used to being inside.
When kitties of any size first come into strange houses, they're real nervous and they just have to pace and meow and explore everything till they smell all the unfamiliar smells and scope out the territory. They stay sort of low to the ground and sniff everything and creep around. It sometimes takes them a few days to calm down. He'll be especially nervous if he's been accustomed to being outside 100% of the time.
Keep feeding him and just give him the freedom to explore so he can know where he is and know he's safe. He'll calm down. Take him to the vet as soon as you can to make sure he's disease-free and has the vaccinations he needs.

yeah she always does, lol, i knew she was an animal person from her other posts too. i just gave him some food, and some water, he ate and drank, but is still pacing the window sill and my room meowing, just like birdgirl said. the kitten/cat sucks on its own tail ALL the time, maybe it wants milk? here are pictures of it. dont let the pictures or my above post deceive you though, it is a playful cute little kitten.
Can't tell too much about how he looks, but he does appear charming! He looks fairly big. Is he a full-grown kitty?
hey birdgirl, turns out it is a girl kittie, i name dit little wing, or nana, i dont know. also, should i put a collar on it now? or should i wait, i am taking it to the vet tommoroww, and i let it roam around my moms room and hallway, then it went right back to my room as soon as my other kitty started meowing, but my other kitty is a harmless kitty just like this one, and neither of them are fighters from what i can tell. and i am most definatley NOT getting it declawd. it is NOT a full grown, or even CLOSE, it is almost kitten like, but a little bigger. the vet might be able to tell.
edit, she seems just to be really scared of my dog. whose collar she can hear like a mile away, every time i hear my dogs collar move, the cat jumps, its afraid to explore the rest of my house, and was sleeping on my moniter but my dog is right outside my door,so now wshe is meowing to get outside and go to her hiding spot.
It's a girl!!! Yeah, the vet'll be able to make an educated guess on her age. If you're not going to let her outside, you don't really need to put a collar on her tonight while she's adjusting. And a collar might make her more nervous tonight. Let the vet recommend what to do. After you get home tomorrow, you can put a collar on her with the vet's vaccination tag to identify her, or if you want to spend a little more money, you can also get her microchipped with a little under-the-skin ID tag. Good for you for not declawing. My two indoor cats aren't declawed, and they just love to scratch on these rope-covered posts we have everywhere.
Do you have a litter box easily available to her? Sometimes part of why they creep around and meow is they're looking for the bathroom. It'll help to show her her box and maybe set her in it. She'll go use it as soon as she can to sort of start establishing herself in her new place. Do you have plenty of water out for her, too? How exciting to have a new baby! Another fellow board member here, The Figment, just brought a new one into his home last night.

EDIT: lol, she is clawing and eating the ants in my room, and a mosquito. lol. my dog went crazy when i brought her to the litter box. and she started growling and hissing, both of them actually.
That ought to work. A young cat won't probably be overly sensitive to the other cats' smell in the box. A new grown kitty might. Let's hope this kitten spent enough time with her mom to know how to go to the bathroom properly in dirt or litter. Surely that'll be instinctive.
i dont know if she was even with her mom for the 6 week period that cats are supposed to. she still sucks on her tail, and she didnt use the litter box.
hhmmm, she just went to the bathroom now, but wont use the litter box, she prefers the "run and poo" procedure, now ive got a mess to clean up =(. but i love her anyway =D
She'll use it when she needs to, and she may hold things in a while till she gets less nervous. Also, if she hasn't been fed enough and given enough water, she may not have much bathroom business to do yet. It occurs to me that if she's this young, she won't probably yet know much about marking her territory with her bathroom doins.
You may hear her scratching in there while you're trying to sleep tonight. Sometimes the little ones try and sleep in the box. They want a safe little warm nest.
I've never had a cat that sucked its tail, but I expect that's just a kitten habit that's seen in cats who were weaned too soon. I vaguely remember reading something like that.

We brought in a feral kitten 3 years ago and he still wants to go outside to potty. He pretty much hangs around the property and comes in to eat and nap when it's warm out.Quote:

I can't tell by your pics how old she may be. Don't give her cows milk or she'll get the runs. She needs kitten food and kitten chow for now. We have young ferals and they are just starting to eat on their own. They walk right in the dish. lol

It's just used to being outside because it's been probably outside all its life. The cat is just shocked that it's a new environment, a new smell. Give it a few days to rub its face and leave its scent around, and she'll warm right up to you.
When my bro first got his cat, which was a wildcat, huge cats too, it hid underneath his bed for 4 days until he finally came out.
What's nice is that you have afemale kitty. They tend to be less aggressive than the male ones.
Keep her, take care of her, and she'll warm up. Let her go outside though. She'll go stir crazy staying inside all the time, plus you said she kept coming back, and now that's she's been in your house, she'll come back home to eat and stuff.
My first cat was a stray cat that we found when I was 6. It wouldn't leave our back door and kept crying, so we took it in. When she got used to being inside the house, we let her run loose and she would just come back to eat. She'd stay out all night, and all day. My dad used to call her a slut because she'd stay out all night. :p As a joke of course.
Hey, Closer! How'd the little kitty do over the rest of the night and at the vet??? I have thought about you guys on and off all day long. I need a new kitten, too. Hope you're both well and that she's settling in nicely. Check in with an update when you can!

They are interesting. They have them at all the pet stores in Texas, and several of my son's friends have them. They're fun to pick up and look at and talk to. I cannot understand why they're outlawed in California.
Thanks for the info about the musk gland, Billion. I figured it was something like a scent gland someplace. Figure I'll do without adding one of them to my menagerie anytime soon. Have enough trouble with butt-related scents just living with a husband. . . .
