QUESTION...for EXPERTS ONLY please.

Since there is little THC in the actual hairs of the flowers, what would happen if someone were to say, CUT just the female hairs from the flower pods, or pluck them?

Would the flower itself die?

Would, in an attempt to be seeded, the flower produce MORE flower pods to shoot hairs from?

If the latter would happen, do you not think then that you could force larger buds by stimulating flower pod production?

Since most of the THC is on the flower pods, this would seem like a desired result.

Has anyone got any insight into this surgical, time consuming process?

it would in all probability stress the female into producing male sexual organs. Thus all your effort would have been in vain. Or it would cause a mutantion in the plant. And not to mention you'd have a hard time selling bud that had no pistils on it. Good question though, I've never encountered one like it before.

that's a first-time question for me, too ... I don't think it necessarily would stress (but, it could) ;) , I think it would be too minor of a cutting to shock the plant ... but, I have doubts the plant would have the instinct to replace them, ... only one way to find out, maybe you'll stumble upon a new trick ... :smokin:

I would bet that it would not effect the particular calyx that you pull the hair from.

Now if I uderstand correctly, you are suggesting that the plant will , "notice" the missing hair and thus produce more calyx to produce more hairs, which will in turn produce bigger buds.. correct?

and a great theory, you could probably do a PHD thesis on this one.. but my hypothosis is that it does not effect growth..

is the future really gonna go onto LED's? i know theyre are kinda bright and with spectrum distribution vie certain vrystals held in front of the source can produce directed concentrated area's of specific colour e,g blue spectrum, red spectrum.......but i allways find with any LED the light itself never affects much over a large distance...so wouldnt that produce problems for a big timer? i mean..youde need EXCESSIVE amounts of source right?

Hardon...I like the theory....can you side by side?

Isolate a branch....pull the pistils from the upper-most bud sites....and then again further down the branch...leaving an untouched bunch of flowers in between the two sites you trim. And then maybe utilize that whiskey and molases concoction of your's and see if that surge of growth you attribute to your home brewed additive kicks in to help the process.

Who buys mj on the amount of 'hairs' they see? Unless a person knows what strains have anything other than the typical brownish/orangish hairs...as well as the grower may have made a heap-o-hash for themself...the presence of hairs is fairly well just an indicator that the grower took care with the grow.

The rules of thumb are....observe the bouquet...and then look for the white, fuzzy indicators that indicate the presence of dried trichomes.

yea I agree with slowthestone, let us know what would really happen. Of course all this is just speculation. But you could have discovered the last thing.

We know the reason why the plants stretch in flower now right?

While some people used to think, and still do, that the plants, when forced into 12/12 are "REACHING" for the lights, thus extending their reach, some of us know its a genetic effort to send the hair pistles as high into the air as possible to catch male pollen.

So, if the hairs were missing, certainly the plant would would know that. I suspect either the flower will be cut off of nutes from the plant, or, an abundance of new calyxs would develop to replace the missing or damaged ones.

The more calyxs the more goodies????

I suppose the owner of this bud could do a side by side.....But then if it did work, how in the fuck would you do this to a 3 foot tall Kali Mist bud?????

Perhaps I will convince the grower to pic just one bud and follow it thru the remaining 21 - 30 days of life.

I was always told not to touch the buds because touching them(or pulling them)
would cause that calyx to not fully develope.
It needs the hair to finish maturing,I think.
Otherwise when you pull the hair I think it willl create a bunch of hollow calyx's.
Keep your grubby fingers off your plants people.

yes this will be a very time consuming process for sure. and on a length sativa dominant hybrid, I hope you're not busy for the next week! lol. JDog has a great point, all that fondling will seriously diminish quality. You could probably make some good finger hash though when you got through! But honestly you should try to only hold her by the fan leaves or stem while doing this. And yes, squeeze only the lower popcorn buds for smell test, and yes it is much fun!

Noooooooooo.....you will shock your ladies.....seeds is possible aswell as death...you will get nothing else out of this Expt.
Shock = slowed growth which in the end will = a small yield, not to mention them not being able to repair themselves quick enough to your constant plucking/cutting.....so they end up giving up and dying on you.
(Thats the other alternative) both of which you do not want.

I will try it on one white russian bud....just a top of a secondary big bud head.

lets see what happens.

At the end of the flowering cycle the pistils are all dried and shriveled anyway. Unless we are trying to make seed, I cant see where the grower would have a big effect in the calyx size or thc production, either good or bad, by cutting/pulling off the new pistils.
If anything, i would think it might create some stress on the plant as some others mentioned, and reduce the yield a bit. Interesting Q tho. Peace

I not gonna do this to the Kali Mist...I'd be there...I mean the grower would be there all night long. Fuck that. The fucker has solid kolas 3 foot tall. Stops growing at flower day 30... now just getting the hairs off would be impossible...they grow so dense and packed I couldnt get at them anyhow.

The white russian is a diff toke altogether.

The smoke is outrageously good...but it has its drawbacks.

It smells so strong and pungent you cannot carry it around with you in a baggie, a pipe, a glass jar, or anything becuase the smell is a dead giveaway.

God forbid you ever carry around a roach of it...

There is no hiding this stuff and thats the bummer...you are really confined to where you can smoke or carry it.

You cannot contain the smell even in glass jars or Tupperware airtight containers. Its all fun at first but then when the buzz wears off 4 hours later, you realize you got a problem.

The smell is a serious issue.

Yup even double bagged, in your luggage in the trunk of the car it makes the whole cab wreak.

No one has mentioned the timing of all this. It sounds to me like you are thinking of pulling hairs out of a 50-60 day old plant (50 on 12/12 that is). If the idea is to â??Forceâ?� the plant to freak out and produce more of something maybe we would get more dramatic results trying it on something younger. Sure be less tweezing.

I am getting an image of fields of Afghani children and old women picking little white hairs out of a field of hash plants. Almost like harvesting saffron eh?

The timing does indeed concern me.

However, these particular plants are only on day 37 of flower. Estimated is a total of 63 days. So just past half way.

After a lot of thought, I dont think I will try it this time. I dont have the time or the dedication to this grow. Or the need...hehehehe....

I dont deal so I should have enuff for a year with this one.

2 years and now that I know what I am doing, I just did it to do it and never have a supply prob of premium stuff again for a while.

If anyone else wants to pony up, feel free...but...I think I will let this mystery sit for a while. Maybe next time......

plus you don't have to worry about accidental pollenation! (even if it did herm just make sure you got all the pistils!) speaking of which how are you going to get the pistils on the inside of a big wide cola?

I honestly dont think it does much. I mean I have even thought about this before I even thought about growing. So I'm pretty sure out of the 800,000+ growers world wide some one has tried this. If there was any success or any noticeable increase in the final yield I'm pretty sure we'd know about it by now :p. But thats just me, this is very interesting though. I'm dying to know what happens lol.

Intresting question. I had a small clone at one time that was near harvest and a HEAVY rain came and washed away a lot of the pistils on the exterior. It rained that hard. I gave the plant a couple more days to get the excess moisture out and during those days it seemed that a couple of pistils came back but not near the number that were previously there. The smaller amount of pistils didn't seem to have an effect on potency but the look of the bud was definetly different.
