I heard one of the reason it is legal is for tourism. So I'm sure its legal but Ive never been (yet) so Im not sure.
Im fairly positive they outlawed tourists smoking there. Im sure it there, and Im sure you could smoke wherever, but they might not sell it to you at the shop. I cant be held to that, but I swear I read it somewhere recently.

in coffee shops...you should avoid smoking
on the streets and in other public places all together.
be careful in the hotel room too.
i'm almost positive that they didn't change the legality of cannabis there. why would they? then rich american stoners wouldn't go there anymore.
My advice would be to turn off your caps lock.
Don't worry about not being able to smoke weed in Amsterdam. They were talking about banning it, but they haven't actually done anything like that. And even if they did, I'm sure you'd be able to find a café that wouldn't demand proof of Dutch citizenship for all customers. Besides, how hard would it be for a tourist to just pay a Dutch guy to buy him weed?
I was starting to think I dreamed that shit. I guess I really did read it somewhere. That would be impossible anyway cuz you cant tell whos dutch and whos not. You need to be 18 to enter a coffeeshop. Buying in small quantities is tolerated - it is not actually legal. The law is extremely messed up, growing is for example just as illegal as it is anywhere else, and they do bust growers.
When you go there, try to avoid the tourist traps. And do not go around smoking up on the streets, only low-lives and tourists do that. Smoke up in the shop itself or at a friends place, or in a park - and no, not in your hotel.

I would like to know about said tourist traps as well. I'll make a new thread a year or two down the road though...I wonder if anybody else has planned this far in advance to post something? Will I even remember? I hope so.
1 piece of advice would be to treat the place with a little respect and don't give them more reason to say "look at the stupid tourists who can't handle their drugs and booze".

use google earth man. find amsterdam and it gives you the option of looking up resterants and coffee shops all that, plus when it shows establishments, it gives you reviews of that establishment. Yes. They sell all kinds in most of the head shops. I didn't notice them in coffee shops or have heard of it but amsterdam is so relaxed anything is possible.Quote:
