Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
ive been playing guitar for about 4-5 years ive got a 70's Reissue strat maple neck with natural finish the pick ups are perfect cept i want to replace the bridge pickup for more sustain for heavier stuff like metal and hard rock
ive been looking at emg's and dimarzio but cant really decide
wondering if anyone had any suggestions, if theyve had any pickups they liked for sustain...
my friend has emgs on his standard strat he has a humbucker at his bridge that has amazing sustain and tune when drivin with distortion but i was looking for a single coil pickup not a humbucker....
thanks for suggestions
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
duuuuuuuude...for metal definitly go with emgs....i have one on my bridge of my prs. its SOOO sick. the neck gets awesome clean tone, and the emg totally tears it up. i reccomend it so much if youre a metal kid. absolutely
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
I too would go with the EMGs... if you want more advice this question has been asked 1000's of times at the www.ultimate-guitar.com forum.

hey man, do you post there? i used to have like 1500 posts but i haven't been there in years
to the threadstarter, yeah you should really have the wood in your guitar's body carved for a humbucker at the bridge if you want good metal tones. the EMG's will scream for you while replacing the neck pickup with a Lil 59 will give you some nice cleans. I put a JB Jr at the bridge of my Mustang for more heavier tones but I just didn't get what I was looking for, so definately go for the humbuckers.
One thing I have found though is that the wood on alot of Stratocasters I have played that have humbuckers in them don't get the same beefy-ness that an Ibanez or ESP would have with the same pickups in them. Something about alot of the wood Fender uses just isn't made to be played for metal, so try inquiring about that to an expert at your local guitar shop or something.

First, a humbucker iS needed for the tone you're after.
Second, I have no exp. with EMG pickups, but I reccomend Seymour Duncan. I just put one in the neck position last week, prime heavy, thick, but not fuzzy, soudning pickup. Sounds ballsy and I love it.
Peace.

you put an emg in a prs? man that sounds kinda lame to me but whatever works.
I'd go with Seymour duncan or dimarzio. With seymour, you can get a duckbucker pickup or something along those lines because they're stacked humbuckers so you can fit a regular humbucking pickup into a single coil space. That means you wont have to get a new pick guard or anything like that.

EMG-DG20, single coil pickups. fuckin great pickups.
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
i like those blade style pick ups. supposedly they have superior sustain.

Emgs are overrated. Duncans and dimarzio if you want quality tone and sustain
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
duncans are good, emgs are good, it realy depends on what sound your going for. Personaly i like two humbuckers, thats what i have on both my guitars and it sounds pisser.
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
on my sg epi i have obviously 2 humbuckers which i adore with their power and roar but i love single coils on the strat for its incredible clean tone so basically im looking that can go from piercing clean tones to incredible distortion lead guitar.
been looking at the gilmour pickups but i dunno if i want to go with them, i mean just because they were his mean that im gonna be able to get the same tone out of them as he did....
i plan on going to sam ash (guitar megastore) and talk to them... ive always liked there service and ive bought everysingle bit of guitar bass and drum equiment of mine from them i never liked guitar center, the one around me they are all ass the service is terrible... and they have no damn clue what they are talking about...
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
Get a Seymour Duncan JB Jr. I have a regular JB in the bridge of my Gibby SG, and its one of the most recorded pickups on modern records.

Holy shit! Me and you both have the exact same guitars. I have a Fender Strat, single coils, that I also use for cleaner tones, and my SG ripoff, made by Fender though, have 2 humbuckers, the neck pickup equipped with a Seymour Duncan. I have a picture, check it out!
What a cracy coincidence. :p
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
that is "great minds think a like"
i think i may try replacing the strat bridge with a seymour duncan single coil or lace sensors by fender and than i might actually replace my pickups on sg with some EMG's

i ve got a fender lonestar strat with texas specials in the neck and mid, and seymour duncan pearly gates in the bridge. i will never sell this guitar because the tone is soemthing i honestly have to have.

you should send a mail to Pete biltoft at vintage vibe guitars.
He does custom windings for the same price as a set of seymour duncans and has great service.
Guitarist question - WHAT PICKUPS
i would go for the emg humbucker. thats what im lookin at for the neck, and then i want split coils in the rear.
