buying a guitar.. help

hey everyone, i want to learn how to play an electric guitar. I have a bunch of friends that play and I'm gonna ask them to teach me some things.. i was wondering if any of you play? is it really hard to learn or is it one of those things that just takes a LOT of practice. Anyway my main question here is, what's a good electric guitar to buy to start out with(i barely know anything about guitars). I dont care that much if its not a great one.. even if its crappy, for now im trying to learn the basics. And how much would one of these usually go for? im not really looking to spend a lottt of money, esp. if im just begining.
any other advice or tips would be sweet

Guitar is just something you gotta stick with because you're going to suck at first. And then when you think you're pretty good after a couple months, and then you suddenly think you suck again, it's because you do, and you have to just keep doing whatever you've been doing. Alot of guitarists I know including myself wanted to quit after a few months when we had all solidly progressed, but it still seemed like we'd never be really really good. I've been playing for almost 4 years now and I have to say I'm getting to be pretty good. So one thing to remember, don't give this up once you've started.


A decent electric guitar to start off with is a Squier Bullet. It is a nice guitar for guitarists who don't really have an ear for tone yet and who are just there to learn the basics in the easiest way possible. You'll be able to find them for under $150 most musical shops you go to. Try going to a large-scale music store though because little guitar shops will most likely not have this guitar.

it takes some serious commitment. Learning guitar has big highs and lows. Youll feel awesome one moment when you play a cool riff then feeling like quitting when you keep fucking up that same riff the next day.

go to guitar center website. they have fender starter kits for less than 200.
amp, guitar, case, and a cd or two.
I'll throw a few pointers your way when you;re ready.
I have a couple of Martins(acoustic)
A Fender Stratocaster, Eric Clapton Signature
A Yamaha, and a Santa Cruz. Plus a couple of fiddles, flute, and my Grandpa's old Mandolin, that he played when he was a kid.

get a strat pack or something along those lines. It comes with guitar, amp, case and other little doo dads

get a ilbanez rg or sg they are the best begginer guitars for metal heads and they look damn cool

im gonna start learning electric guitar too. i definitely have enough free time these days to practice practice practice

ive been playing for about 14yrs it takes practice and lots of finger pain to get used to playing, its not hard but its not easy after about a month you'll start to get the hang of it and once you learn a few cool things its becomes addicting to play.

i remember playing for 8-10 hours a day as a teenager somedays my fingers bled but have to keep going, someone said a Squire Strat to start with that would be the best choice i myself still have one i play once in a while and thats the guitar my friends are allowed to use unless they want the 7 string but that thing is like learning to play all over again it sits collecting dust.

get the strat they sound ok mine stays in tune very well. :thumbsup:

hmm wish you were around here i am trying to sell an electric guitar for 50$ brand new man.

I know the feeling, its pretty frustrating but if you're dedicated to learning it shouldn't be a problem. I kind of gave up after learning a few songs, yeah yeah I'm a quitter. sue me.
I think squiers are the way to go for beginners. but good luck with guitaring :thumbsup:

I tried to learn off an acoustic and quit. And then picked up my buddies electric and was amazed how much easier it felt to learn on.
Eventually i'll get a beginner pack...

i play the electric and if u want a good gitar pick a gibson eather a night wing or i get a gibson less paul preimun thay both r good but i like the les paul one better it has a good look and it has a smoth sound

I started to play when i was 8, and i'm 50 now. I would sleep with my guitar when i was a kid. I had thatt dern thing in my hand(no, not that dern thing, the other dern thing)from the time i woke-up till bedtime. I made my living as a studio musicians here in San Francisco, recording at Lennon Studios and Turk Street Studios.

I've been through 7 managers 5 labels 1000 picks and patched cables 3 bands a van a buncha guitar stands and cans and cans and cans of beer and bottles of booze and bags of pot and a 1000 other things i've forgot i thought that i;d be dead by now........, but i'm not :confused:

been playing since i was 14, my stepfather showed me some chords so i can play along with him. He got me started on jethro tull, zz top, zepplin. It wasn't untill i was 16 that i discovered METAL, metallica's master of puppets made me want to play heavy stuff, so i jumped to bands like iron maiden, metallica, slayer, pantera. for gear i have an austin les paul remake, with a peavy ultra 60 half stack, i use a boss metal zone for distortion, cry baby wah, and a boss chorus pedal.

it can get frustrating when your just learning to play, just stick with it, soon you'll be rippen it up.:thumbsup:

Don't buy anything "new", buy "used".

And, learn the 'C' Chord.
