Questions from a grower wannabe

I'm thinking for using my empty 2f x 2f x 6f cabinet to grow some stash.I've been some reading in this forum for a while now but there's still some technical questions keep bothering me.Hope to get some help from u guys.

1. Is my cabinet big enough to grow 2 plants?I'm thinking getting some strain with lower height(like big bud).

2. I thinking of buying the carbon filter from ebay under this seller http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZmetamerchantQQhtZ-1
Just wanna know how well does this thing work? If anyone who had bought it please tell me ur comment. and how long will the charcoal in there last? how do i refill it? Removing the odour is really important for me. And bcos of that i might be closing the cabinet tight at most of the time. I wonder how bad will the ventalization of this kind effect the plant? i will be putting a small fat in there. Will the carbon filter itself create some kind of ventalization already?

3. i will be chosing some cfl. I just need some suggestion about what kind to chose. i understand that it's better to have different bulb duirng different period. what kind of watt and colour temperature should i chose for the cabinet size of mine?? i'm thinking of buying two cfls like this

will that be enough? i dun want it to get too hot in there as like i said..i might be sealing the cabinet up most of the time.

4. How long does it take for plant to get harvest..approximately? 5 months? and when does it start to smell? issit flowering period? How many days can i can leave it without any care inside a cabinet (cos i might be going out of town).

5. if it's a male plant doest it mean that i have to throw it away?(issit really not worth smoking?) is the chances of getting female higher than male? around what time will i know that this plant is male of female?

if anyone who is using the phillips or osram cfl will be the best. just gimme the models then i can find...and yeah...the inner of the cabinet is already paint white..so i guess is good enough for the reflection and stuff.i'm just worry that it's too small to install too many lights and it got too hot.

Despite not getting any response from anyone..(i understand that most of the ppl in here have seen my question over and over again..it's cool) i still manage to read and find some info i needed in this forum.

At last i've started my first grow. I could have started earlier but i got a trip to london and amsterdam last week. So have to delay till now. (Man Amsterdam is just wicked...i would like to retired there)

Anywayz..can anyone pls take a look a the pictures and tell me what u think? I got 5 cfls at 23W each. Please also take a look at two of my baby gal and tell me if they are fine?Both of them are 5 days old(but 1 of them seems to be a lot taller..mayb i plant the other one deeper??) and They are EasyBud from Female seeds.

So far i got one problem--temperature..i know that it's best to keep at 75-80 F (25-28C) but when i switch all 5 bulb on and closed the door tight...the temp will rise to nearly 90F!! i got a small fan in there as u can see but dun think it helps a lot. Is this kinda of temperature will have a big effect on the plant? I think it could be bcos i'm living close to the equator and the weather is hotter than most of u guys in there..usually at night i will switch on the aircon and open the cabinet door just to let it cool down a bit..(also around 85F...please gimme some advice...!!

Hey bro your plants are looking fine ,But i would cut off those 2 lights that are no where near close to your plants .There doin almost nothing ,and also it would cut down on your temps untill you get a bigger fan .And also try placing your fan where it blows right between the tops of your plant and the bottom of the bulb .Also your temps will go down a little bit when you get a bigger fan. But without fresh air coming in your temp's want go down much .And also the more fresh air you got the more you plants will grow. I dont know what you got your lights on but i would go with 18/6 to let your room cool down .But always leave your fan on non stop , and move your fan closer to your pots

even tho your seeds were feminized you still have to watch out for males and the reason why everyone doesnt like there males is because the will pollinate your female plants that are near it so instead of your females putting their effort to creating delicious sticky buds it waste it on seeds....another thing is what color temp are those bulbs your using for vegging you want something around 6500k and for flowering around 2700k.... do you have an intake vent?? that would help cool it down for sure if nto u should make

Ok..I've got a bigger fan (see from pig) and blow it right between the bulb and the plant. I also switched off the two light bulb and the temp did go down aroudn 2-3 C.....i didnt have any intake vent since my room is sandwiched between 2 others and the cab is no where near the window. I did pierce two holes (1 one top and one and the bottom ). I read from somwhere that this might help just a little.

now here's the big question..if let anyone you guys who read this to choose. Will u choose to go for 24h staright (what i'm doing now) which will cos the temp to be higher.?? or go for 18/6 or 20/4 just to cool down the place a bit..i know that 24 will let the plant grow faster....

and yes..green gardener..4 of my bulb are 6500k and one of them is 2700k...i read that mixing one 2700k is slightly better..i dunno why...can anyone tell me??or those are just bullshit...i also read from somwhere that it's not good to put the light too close to the plant before it reach around 4 inches..is that true..can someone look at the pic and tell me if the light distance is fine??

Oh yea.. i got another baby gal poping out 2day..and it's growing real fast...i can hardly see it from the soil before i went to work and when i come back..it;s already like this..(from pic)...now i started to worry that my cab will get too bushy when they all grow up...do u guys think there;s enough room? i dun wan them to grow too big though.....

and aslo..how bad will the smell be for 3 plants? i'm not planning to get any fancy scrubber or purifier..i'm just thinking of buying lots of in car perfume to put around my room...will that be enough..if i put them in the cab..will the smell have any effect to the plant??

i've heard on here that using 18/6 does nicely because it gives the plant time to rest then it also no such a big change when u switch to 12/12 i think the light distance is fine for now when it does get bigger kept it between 1 and 2 inches away form the plant...those plants should be pretty stinky im planning on getting a tru air carbon filter form wal mart only 15 bucks and it is just a plug-in type

Yeah bro your box if fine ,but always remember you may have a male or hermie .
And if you think your box is to small, LST them i got alot of tips for LST and also other threads on the site .18/6 all the way untill your flower. Also about your bulbs it doesnt matter but make sure for 18/6 you got the 6500k bulbs on and get some 2700k bulbs for flowering .As for smell dunno your gonna have to see between all 18 of my grows i havent had 1 plant but male's stink up the room.Just so happens if your stuff is super dank during flowering ,those Airwick plug in things work amazing and also the got CFL 's that get rid of the smell

You see the thing is...i dun live in america ..in fact i only live in a small town..there's lots of thing that mention in the forum that i never heard of and can never get (just like a bigger wattage of cfls..dun even mention the bulb that can get rid of the odour..) ...i've seen those carbon fiber on ebay but it's a bit too ex for me at the moment....but i know Airwick~! yeas...so i think i will go for it....bigbud daddy ..are you talking about those auto spray thingy? or just the normal plug in? i bought an anti tobacco ones...which is there a smell that work the best??

Im talkn about the ones that are in glass bottles and a white top that it hooks up too .And the purple colored stuff smells really good lol its kinda like a whiff of heaven .Man i got one in the bathroom and in a days period ill go in there 20 times just smell that plug in

Switch to 18/6 for the first day..the temp doenst seems to go down much when the light is on...(up to 95F!) i wonder if there's the reason for my plants not growing much these few days? althought the leaves seems to get bigger a bit.when light's off...temp drop to around 75F(at least they got some time to cool down).

The soil dry up very quickly..i spray some water on top everyday..is that too much?

Why is one of my plant dead, one nearly dead..and one looks like going to die??? please..i need urgent help here....would like to know the reason so that i can stop them from dying....it looks to me is too hot or lack of watering...but i spray water on them everynight.??!!!

I would say only leave one light on per plant if temps are that high, It could be dying cause of the heat. What is that blue stuff in the soil of Pic 1

Sorry bro for not answering your qustions lately but been real busy.Your temps are to high for the plants to grow there just frying you gotta find away to get cool air in and hot air out .I would scrap these plants that you got because you might end up with males or hermi's from such heat stress. If you could give pic's of your whole cab i can help with some intakes holes and outake holes .And get these temp's down into the low 80's to high 70's . Also whats the temps on the outside of the cab

Alright...i guess i have screwed up my first grow. I knew the temp is too high but there's just nothing much i can do about it. I've took the pic of my whole cabinet, but unfortunately i dun think i can drill any bigger hole since the whole cab is belongs to the landload. So i'm thinking of getting this plastic box in the pic (the cheapest i can find) i think is the size is about 25"x15"x15" is that too small??i heard we can force the plant to flower when it's about 15" height?is that correct?

Even if i got that box, there's another problem "light refection" i've no idea what's the MYLAR u guys are talking about in here and i dun think i can get it in my town either. Can kitchen foil do the job too?i heard it dun work as well as mylar but it can still work.

I went to get some computer fans and try to put it next to the holes that i drill but i can feel much air coming in and out. If i can use the plastic box, i can cut two big holes for intake and outtake. but i will need some advice on it.

just to answer some of the question from u guys. The ave temp in my room is 26c to 30c. At night when i on the aircon will drop to around 20-22. I'm not sure what blue stuff Jeffar420 is talking about, are you talking about the plastic floor matt?

If you guys think the box and kicthen foil can do the job, i;ll get it and start my 2nd grow.Otherwise....i think it will be a while before i start another grow.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to stay where i live (i was amazed when i found this forum...issit safe to talk in here??) since it's pretty strick on weed over here....(Dealth penalty)...i will just leave it as South East Asia.....no man..there isnt much online store round here..thought they got somthing like wallmart....i went there and i didnt see much things can be used...even the CFL only got 23W..dun mention hps or mh..damn sad...

Hey seabud seems pretty harsh law on the good ol cannabis. Iv got alot of idea's for your cab (Been setn in my office thinkn of all kind of stuff )Next time you get on and im on at the same time i could give alot of ideas to you but i also need your answers at the same time i post my ideas to see what you can and cant do so i wouldnt be wasting your time and get you up and growing soon

if i were you, i would brake down your garden, give up the idea of even trying to grow untill you move to canada( you should give it some thought) because its not worth your life man...seriously

That's so much bigbuddaddy, i've build a grow box but i didnt put buy two of those and put one top of one another..i just use one...since i'm only planning to grow 2plants.
This time the temp stay at around 25-28C..day time will go up to 30C and atnight around 22C...i think that's the best temp i can get since the room temp is around 27-28 at daytime.

I've put some pic on...pls tell me if need anything else.

One thing, i put the seed in the soil about the same time for both pot...but the other seems to take forver to pop out it's leave...i flick away some of the soil on top and saw the seed is already cracked and it's root is coming out..but turn a bit black...issit bcos i uncover it too eary and the light is too enourmous for the small baby and that it's dying?? i cant get a pic of it since it is too small and my camera isnt good enough.

if you cant shake your heat problems try looking for some flouro tubes...

For that size space I would skip veg and just do 12/12 from the beginning if you do veg no more then about 2 weeks. Plant won't start to bud till it's ready but will grow a little smaller:)

You need to fill your pots up to the top .But wait for the other seedling to pop out of the ground .Also your plants need to be within 2 inch's of the light or youll have lanky plants.Other than that great. Also what lights are you using right now? And remember for Flowering your gonna need a more of a red colored light . But main thing i see that is wrong is your plants arnt close enough .Also about the seedling that has not poped out just let her be she will come out . Also i would not advise goin to 12/12 right now You got alot of room and enough light if you add all the lights you got to veg your plants to like 8-9inchs tall

sorry...can u explain clearer to me? by skipping veg and go 12/12 straight away does that mean switching the lightbulb to the flowering bulb??so the plant will grow till what height and started growing bud?:confused: i think i will stuck to the steps that i'm more familiar wif..veg first.

i got 4 23 watts 6500k cfl in there,i've got some 2700k light read for flowering. i'm not sure if i can get the light down. I saw the thread on the site he's doing the same thing...so the hole for the light is just enought to plug it there..if i try to do anything again now..i'll have to tear the foil paper down...the iron a bigger hole and stuff...i htink mayb i did it the wrong way...i will try to figure somthing out...

why is that need to fill the soil to the top.Cosi was thinking since my plant got a limited space..so i can use that extra inch in the pot for the plant to grow.:)

Good stick to Veg. And what i mean by 12/12 thats the time you keep your lights on and off ,So 12/12 for flowering ,18/6 or 24/0 for veg. You dont have to move your lights stack somthing under the pots to make them closer to the lights. I said fill the plants up the rest of the way because it will make the stretch on the one plant that has sprouted less stretchy lookn .But its up to you . Also with the foil you might creat heat spots on your leaves and burn them I would get like 4 spray cans of flat white and just start spraying the whole inside of it (With out your plants and bulbs and fans in there of course)

There was a thread on overgrow about 12/12 from seed you will still get a decent amount just won't take as long to get bud plants will still grow to about 2' to 3' high

SPRAY IT WHITE...STACK THE POT UP...such a simple solution and my bugger mind never though of it...LOL...it took me nearly an hour to do the wiring,off the light,wait it cooled,took out the bulb and carefully rewire it again.! I will go and get some white spray tomorrow.

but i'm not sure bout filling the pot up..cos it's so much work..and i scare i will hurt the small baby.

i'm very sensitive with the temp nowadays...what do you guys think? temp ranging from 75-85k..is that alright??

So i have rearrange the lights and spray the whole inside of the box white. Everything is going quite well except today i realized the small leaves (first two) of both plants are growing bit strangely. One of them is getting real dark and seems to be dried off at the tip. the other is getting really yellowish..i'm not sure the pic is clear enough..can anyone tell me what cause the probelm of this and how bad this situation is?? thanx

My 2nd attempt is anothe failure..the leave grow yellow and eventually dried up...When i pulled out the plant...i can feel that the soil is actually really dry.So i'm just wondering did i over water it or is the water not enough...although i used the term "spray"(just bcos i'm using a spraying bottle)..i actually did "Wet" all the root area...usually twice a day(cos the soil is really dry....so do base on ur expertise...did it died bcos of too much water??

too little, pour like... half a cup/quarter cup depending on pot size maybe more maybe less

Most people run the veg stage with lights that are not needed yet.
If somenone wouldn't mind telling me how to post picture's I'd be able to give you an idea of what 2 23w cfl's will do for veg.
the bloom stage however is a diffrent story. I to have a handbuilt peice of furniture that is 2x2x6, that uses a 250w hps. With an inline fan running now and then..(on a timer), my temps are never above 6f of ambient temp. I'm usually around 75-78f. My home is settled at 69 most of the time.
FYI.....your lights don't need to be hanging like that at this point of growing.
To be honest, blunt, and/or clear....your most likly not going to need to hang your lights like that at all with the amount of room you've given to your garden.
You have more surface area on the side of the bulb then at the tips. Understand?
2x2 is not enough space to make you want to waste the energy of the lights like that.
