On my back porch in north Texas this Tuesday afternoon, the thermometer registered 107 degrees Fahrenheit. We've been drinking a lot of water, taking lots of swims, and sitting under the celing fans wearing light cotton clothing and moving as little as possible. We're accustomed to summer heat, but this is a little nuts even for Texas.
How how is it where you are, and what are you doing to deal with the heat?
well i live in MA today and yesterday it was like 100
ya it was 100 and humid here in VA, i kept cool in the POOL
It's like 99 all fuggin' week, and I think the heat index got up to like 106-107 today.
Gotta love global warming!

its only been in the 90's here in south carolina but the heat index from humidity is like always around 105 humidity sucks balls.
I had to walk to work for the third day in a row in the fuckin 90° heat (it takes me 45 minutes to get there). And I live like 20 miles from the Canadian border.

it was like 97 or something a couple days ago in iowa. with the head index it was supposedly like 114. the past 3 days have been fucking insane with the humidity. i was watching the news and it showed temps from all over the nation and everywhere was over 90 degrees.
Lol. For some reason, I like to go down to my local park almost everyday a little past noon and knock the soccer ball around. I get a good workout in naturally, but I'm getting used to the heat since I'll have to be out practicing in this shit twice a day very soon. It's still HOT. There's so weird "body high" I get when it's just me out there. Dunnooo.
But yah, other than that, I'm stuck inside, downstairs.
was 115 in my old town and 105 at my new house. i cant believe how hot it is... and i have no air conditioning!!!!
man i'd love to be in a place where it's 13-14C right now :P
Been about 100 every day here in the Midwest, but supposed to cool down on the weekend. Not sure whether this awful heatwave has anything to do with global warming or not...but it makes me wonder.
Not doing much special to survive, other than keeping the central air and a window unit running constantly, and only going outside if it's absolutely necessary. And drinking lots of fluids. I saw a guy die from heat stroke in basic training in the Army in Alabama, and that isn't gonna happen to me.
while its 80-90-100 degrees around me, San Francisco is a kewl 72, and thats a lil warm. I deal with 72 degree heat by doing bonghits and playing my guitars louder. One suggestion . If possible get rid of that nasty cotton and replace it with hemp. hemp clohting keeps you cooler, dries quicker, and it's clean.Quote:

Thanks, Daima. I'll look into hemp clothing and see what I can find. I'll try anything that'll help keep me cool. So far, the cotton has been comfortable, but if there's something better, I'm open to it!Quote:

I am extremely happy that you recieved my message with thought and concern. An opened mind for a different view is so important these days in what seems to be a closed minded consuming ourselves and our surroundings world. Here is a radio station that my friends in Freedom California operate. They play songs(even some of mine) that you wont hear on corportae radio, and they mention things that you just dont hear in most other places.
Independent music is the best. They wont play our music on top 40 radio, so we keep the back 40 to ourselves ;) . We just a buncha ol fart hippies who insist on having things our way.

I envy those of you who are in parts of the world where it's winter right now. I'd give anything for some cool or cold weather.
On the global warming topic, I tend to believe that the upward trend in global temperatures themselves (this being the warmest year on record) is likely the result of global warming, but I really believe this heat wave is just a typical summertime high-pressure system like we frequently have. The area of high pressure just happens to be very big at the moment and covers a lot of the United States.
Everything I've read from the folks at NOAA about the specific hurricanes, storms, flooding, drought, and heat different areas of the U.S. have experienced this year and last makes me believe that we're just experiencing a peak in extreme weather activity, and those peaks have happened for as long as the record-keepers can recall, with the high points about every 20 - 30 years or so. We're at the crest of a peak right now.
From what the NOAA experts have said, it's the overall upward temperature trend and the melting polar ice caps that are indicative of global warming. A lot of folks want to attribute our current crazy weather to global warming, and that makes sense because the weather we're experiencing is what we can see and feel, but apparently it's the more subtle overall upward trend that the climatologists are worried about.

Remember how the whole audience used to chime in and ask "How hot was it???" when he'd start a bit like that? I loved Johnny Carson. It's hard to believe there's a whole generation of people out there now who didn't grow up with him.
Well the average U.S. temperature is at it's highest ever since they're been recorded and kept track of, dating back to 1890. It's up something like 3 degrees overall across the whole country. I'd say global warming is doing more than we think.
It's been in the low 100's at my house in the South San Francisco Bay area. We have weird weather here though and a short drive can make a big difference in the temp. For example, I only live about 20 miles from where I work but it is typically 10-15 degrees warmer at my house than my office. If I drive 20 miles over the mountain to the beach at Santa Cruz it will be anywhere from 20-40 degrees cooler.
97 degrees in georgia. Heat index is 105. I just got done washing my truck and I can agree with birdgirl that I am ready for winter to come back :thumbsup:

It's 98 degrees here in BFE, Indiana!! It's fine for me, somehow. I think it's because I'm half Pakistani, and we're built for heat anyway. Everyone else is like, 'Fuckin hell it's sooooo hot!!! I'm sweating to death!' and I'm sitting in the passenger side with the windows down going, "I think it feels pretty damn good!"
