Was at a Concert - Need Info on What I smelled/saw...

I was at a concert and a few guys next to me were stealthily smoking. The odd thing was, I couldn't smell weed almost at ALL and they were right next to me. Probably 18" or so. What I DID smell was cigar and fruit like strawberry? I'd say it was cigar & strawberry smelling.

The pipe they used was straight. Little linear glass pipe that you'd light the end of. Not like a bowel. It flared out at the end.

They offered me a hit and I took one. Very nice! But clearly a cigar & fruit flavor. What was remarkable to me was the overall smell in the area being non-existant. Totally stealthy in the crowd. Not one head turned.

Can someone clue me in as to what the heck this all was?

my first instinct (due to the pipe) was to say crack.. but i've never smoked crack so i have no idea what it taste like... but i doubt seriously it's strawberry-cigar.

haha i dont think its crack as he would seriously know by the little white rock and burning plastic smell. my guess is it was sheesha (flavored tobacco) if it was a fruity smell and there was alot of smoke but not much smell im almost 100 % sure it was sheesha. also if you hit it why didnt you just ask what it was. it really could have been crack or something you were hitting lol

Well if you got high from it it could've been a sheesha/bud mix of course.

:p i dont' know these things, i've never smoked it, i've been around my crack-headed dad when he was smoking it, but i never did smell anything, perhaps it was because i was on the other side of the room swearing to myself i would take his head off if he offered it to me, got near me with it, or otherwise tried to get me to smoke it....

It was just a little pretty glass pipe, but straight. I've been searching and I'm seeing the word "glass chillum" or "glass bat" as what it looked liked.

It was definitely weed, I knew that before the hit. I could smell it as I was right next to the guy (as well as cigar & fruit) - but it was remarkably toned down. I did ask the guy how they pulled that off but he had this very odd concept of talking at a concert. Instead of talking in my ear, he'd bend his head over so his ear was closer to my mouth - hence he was talking to the floor. It was the darnedest thing! Anyway - all I got out of him was "we only buy the best or we don't smoke". One hit was fine for me. Sort of a fun 70's happy trippy feel. Besides, I was enjoying the show too much to engage in much convo.

My thought was it was either mixed with cigar tobacco (I know nothing about cigars) and some fruit type flavor, or it was a joint type thing shoved into this pipe that had flavored papers on it (cigar/fruit)?

Help me out here guys - I'm ignorant on this. What do you think?

Yes, a concert. Les Claypool. And now I'm kicking myself for not talking to them about this. My husband and I got separated (he parked the car while I went in).. so I took off to find him.

Flavored tobacco huh? Like one would find in a Hookah bar? What about the cigar part? Do cigars smell the way they do due to the tobacco itself? Or is it the wrapper? I have no clue if cigars have the same tobacco as cigarettes. I'm clueless. The answer to this question should be helpful in nailing it down.

Maybe it just smelled like a cigar to you. Maybe someone was smoking a cigar near you.

Maybe it was a powerful fruity weed with some tobacco mixed in so it'll last longer.

Cigars are wrapped in tobacco leaves. Blunt wraps are made from tobacco. Cigars usually have a lot less chemicals on average (good cigars, not gas station cigars) than cigarettes.

They may have used a chillum. Was it a one-hitter? A one-hitter that's small "can" make almost no smell.

My guess is they were using a chillum and smoking weed mixed with flavored tobacco. They were probaby trying to be stealthy and the tobacco would help to cover up the smell of the weed.

Fengzi - I'm thinking you're right. I don't think flavored papers would do that? Either way - it worked.
I just can't figure out the cigar smell part though.

Graph - No, no one was smoking a cigar! I was interested because it was remarkablely stealthy. They didn't just take a few hits, they were smoking the whole show and I barely smelled it standing next to them. Most times, I smell it when I'm 15-20 people away. Instantly. They obviously had this figured out and it intrigued me.

could have been hash as well, maybe thats why you didnt get that all bud taste. sounds to me like they had a glass blunt, and a hash and tabacco blend.

The cigar smell probably came from the fact that they used flavored tobacco, which smells more like cigars and pipes because it doesn't have all the additives of cigarette smoke. I'm actually confused as to why you are still confused.

have you seen a glass blunt before? if you had i think you would agree with me, i dont own it, my neighbor, who just happens to be a hook of mine as well as my boy, does but let me try to explain it:

it has three parts, just like a pipe
the chillum part is long like a blunt and the bowl part is the length (or almost) of the chillim part.
then the mouthpiece is shaped like a rattlesnakes' head and is long so you can shove the bud up.
then there is the rubber thing, but i have seen glass, that holds it together and slides the two pieces together smoothly.
so you load it all the way to the bottom, and then the mouth piece would stick way out and as the bud burned in the glass chamber, you pushed the mouthpiece up and ash it like a blunt. looks like a crack pipe though. i would not want to get pulled over with that on me

considering that the guy said "we only buy the best" it was probly a strane of weed that smells like a fruit. I think it's highly unlikely that they mixed it with tobacco.

where i live blueberry is very popular and usually goes for about 75 an eigth

That's awesome! I went to Claypool's show in Vancouver, BC. It was fantastic. Got to meet Jay Lane too! :D No primus. Just his solo stuff, some frog brigade and a holy mackeral song.

I mean, opium has kind of a sweet and distinct smell, and if you've never smelt it before, it kind of smells like what you're saying.
